But I guess, yes there are a lot of white dudes prospering in Gotham, but that’s not really a race thing, nor should it be. I hope they don’t play the race angle with Gordon either, since he’s black it would be annoying if they had everyone be rude to him just because he’s black and not because he goes against the corruption. I feel like the Joker's inclusion in the movie could be a mandate by WB. Still, it would be cool to see if this version somehow ties in with the Joker movie.
    Overall, the Batman is pretty good. My biggest gripe is the length with some scenes feel like it dragged out for too long. Some of them are great like the Batmobile's reveal while others could trimmed down a bit shorter like the final scene between Selina and Batman. Even good dragged out scenes like the Riddler's first appearance spying on the mayor could be trimmed down a few seconds. Not to mention Batman being able to take an explosion and a crash fairly unscathed. Yeah, and also the white privilege line. Granted, it's a theme in Batman stories to show how corrupt Gotham is, including the Telltale games where Bruce's parents are fully corrupt.
    This take on Batman is also interesting since he seems much, much inexperienced compared to the others. It's really implied his training and knowledge only came from Alfred, seeing how many punches and bullets he has been taking. It's possible that for two years Batman has only been after thugs while keeping eyes on figures of interest like the Penguin until the movie where they first met, with the Riddler being his first supervillain he ever faced. Even with the gliding scene, Robert's acting implies that that was his first time doing that. Plus, his gadgets are much low tech with that DIY feel to it.

    • @devonogrady6403
      @devonogrady6403 2 года назад +13

      His only gadgets were his grappling hook (which I think this is the most we've ever seen of it in a movie) and his contacts. Unless you count his chest knife.

      I honestly didn't mind the length nor pacing of the film, if anything I wish it was longer to flesh our Aldfred and the Wayne's reputation before and after the riddler exposes Thomas' deal with Falcone, so that reveal would have had more impact in my opinion, and the white privilege line makes sense for Catwoman to say, I know that the internet ruined conversations about stuff like white priviledge and such, but this isn't a stupid tweet, it was a person genuinely angry at the shit hole that took her mom and friend's lives, it makes sense for her to say that, she doesn't sound like some writers' mouthpiece for the sake of "clever social commentary", it felt pretty natural.
      One kinda issue I had tho is how they paced the last fight with what seemed like multiple endings, but it wasn't bad enough to really ruin anything, and I kinda didn't like how they forced a Joker cameo at the last second, but it's more due to how overused he is rather than how the movie presents him, on its own that scene was a decent set up for future sequels and stuff, and they had the decency of not having him overtake the entire thing like the Arkham games, and I wish they showed a little more gorey stuff since it is a murder mystery, but overall it was really good, ts the first Batman live action film that actually explores the detective side of Batman, and one of the few movies where Batman is more of an actually interesting main character on his own rather than relying heavily on the dichotomy between his villains to be interesting, nit to mention the film looks really good, overall pretty dang good.

    • @ginogatash4030
      @ginogatash4030 2 года назад +5

      I also highly appreciate how Robin Pattinson was in costume for most of the runtime, with no maskless climax bullshit and you really don't see much of Bruce Wayne, Batman really was the focus of the film, and it was interesting to see a story that actually acknowledges how someone like Batman would inspire serial killers and shit if he was real, and the parallels between him and the Riddler and his terrorist supporters, making Batman question his methods and ethic, I was really tired of the Gary Stue Batman of recent years.

      @VladyO 2 года назад +20

      I disagree, I think this Riddler is very different from most incarnations of Joker.
      Riddler *did* start off as a Joker rip-off which only increased tenfold after Frank Gorshin's portrayal of him in the Adam West show. It was the Animated Series and following comics that made him a more unique and nuanced character.
      The thing that separates Joker from Riddler is that Riddler isn't nearly as evil for the sake of it, relies much more on his intelligence, is comparitively terrible at reading other people despite being great at deductive reasoning, and is arguably even more of a narccicistic attention whore (Joker loves the attention and fears being forgotten, but it is not the only motivation for his entire being like Riddler, and Joker's capable of committing mundane crimes that don't draw attention to himself). All those traits are in full display in Dano's Riddler.

    My two cents worth:
    I think it is a great movie. A really nice take on Batman in the early stages of his career (I think this was his second year at it). The little details like his narration, the journal he kept, his basic arsenal, and the general sense of hesitation and unsureness he has really sold this take on the character. Regarding the movie: it was a real treat to see a live action Batman Film that focuses on the crime, the mystery, piecing together clues and evidence to solve the "riddle"(or crime, for that matter), and is something I really wanted to see in a Batman flick, not the action packed violence we had from previous batfilms. He's called The World's Greatest Detective, and it was nice to see him in his element, even if was made to look like he was just starting out. That said, I think this noir style film mostly works because it's The Riddler he's up against. I would love to have the same take of an layers of orchestrated crime with a different enemy, perhaps even with The Joker, in a future film.
    I really enjoyed the movie. Thanks for reviewing it as well, Jobby

Kind of reminded me of the Animated batman from 92 where he had more of a human side to him and kindness instead of just being stoic and brute forcing everything. Also, wish they would have Cameron Monaghan reprise the role of the Joker. He did an amazing Job on Gotham. Not that it matters-- but I worked in a production studio while I was in High School and they had me read off teleprompters. The key is that whatever you are reading has to be all capitalized, and also you need to essentially read the text as it comes to you, not read it as you see it. This is so your eyes don't dart up, down, right, and left. There are other factors like the scroll speed that you have to take into consideration but once you find your groove it's super easy.

    This Batman adaptation is pretty much based on the earth 1 series where Martha Wayne is an Arkham and Alfred trains Bruce, yes not traditional but that is the earth 1 storyline "aka Alternate world" so it might not be familiar but interesting none the less.

    I loved this movie, but I do wish they could have gone R rated to add more weight to scenes, at least at the level of the Gotham TV series that actually did had some gory moments.
    I wish they didn't went straight to Joker at the end scene... like give another Villain the spot light, Scarecrow got shafted in the Nolan Trilogy; so many opportunities for surreal nightmarish visuals but wasted the opportunity.
    Still I was surprised they're making a spin-off series, I'm pretty interested in seeing that.
    I really do wish this movie was at least connected to JOKER (2019) Like the tone of both of these movies feel like they can so easily connect and would make an interesting relationship between Batman and Joker much like in the TellTales games

    Batman: Earth One does not get enough credit for influencing this movie. Some of the elements are straight from the pages, including the look of Alfred, the backstory of him teaching Bruce to fight, and Arkham heritage in Bruce.

    I honestly just really enjoyed this movie to a surprising degree. From the trailers it didn't seem like much, and thought it'd just be a midtier Batman movie, 7 or 8/10. But man was I happy to be wrong. It really did feel like such a well balanced Batman movie to me, and despite the length I never felt tires myself... though after drinking a large Soda I definitely did start to notice.
    But yeah I absolutely loved the aesthetic, and the cinematography, and just the overall presentation of Gotham, and the relationship between the city and the Batman. How his vigilantism (if that's a word) and how the city reacts to it, how the criminals react to it, and how that relationship evolves and changes by the end of the film is just mmmmm Chef's kiss.
    I loved the nice balance between the Detective work and the action instead of it being too asked to either side, and with that just how enthralling the mystery was, and how it unraveled kept me glued to the screen. The film may seem a but bloated but just the overall flow of events and said mystery unraveling was just so nice to sit and watch. And how everything ties together, it's feels like what playing a Dark Souls game feels like when you find all these paths thar intertwine together... very specific analogy, I know, but it's what I felt.
    And oh again just the sound design, and the cinematography just MMMM that shit good. And if we're talking about sound design... we all know what comes to mind. The fuckin Batmobile. God the sound that thing makes feels like Sex in my ears. Fuuuuuck.
    But yeah I could gush about the film a lot... it's still hard to say if it's my overall favorite Batman film, but it's definitely up there, and I loved it. Does it have flaws oh yeah. Like Batman and Catwomans relationship... kinda just rushed and forced, felt like if they were gonna have a kiss shoulda just saved it for the end when they had at least more growth together, not like "damn my girl pal just got kidnapped but I told you bout my daddy issues so let's kiss" but aight, as well as... as much as I fuckin live the Batmobile scene... there really was no justification for that, Bruce you totally just got a bunch of people killed for no reason.
    But besides that and a few other issues, like the film feeling just the tiniest bit too bloated for some, I legitimately have no other criticisms for the film it was absolutely outstanding. Only thing is I really really wanna see a sequel where Bruce has developed the Bruce Wayne persona more and get to see him alternate between that and Batman as he uses the guise of Bruce Wayne to also help him with Batman business more. That will help me figure out if Pattinson is my new definitive Batman cause rn he's definitely up there

    Fun fact: the "Edward Nashton" name was actually used in the comics before. It's usage in comics was as the Riddler's original surname before he changed it, retconing it so the "E. Nigma" pun was a choice on his part. Which honestly fits with his character; he always a narcissistic attention seeker that wants to feel superior to everyone, so changing his own name to be a pun probably made him feel clever.

    The Batman is a good film. I highly recommend it to anyone. My only issue are: Catwoman's mask. It's too goofy. I couldn't take her seriously. And John Turturro. I've only known him as a comedic actor and I couldn't take him seriously as well. But everyone and everything was alright in the end.

    About Barry's Joker....I think he is awsome in the deleted scene which is funny because if that scene was present in the movie I feel like it would've overshadowed Dano's Riddler due to how....dark it all was.

    As a trained actor I agree with your assessment on Pattison's acting. I believe that The Batman is a great movie because, first, is not your typical super hero movie, second, it's directed beatifully, leading to great acting and third, the music score is amazing.

    I think because it’s batmans early years it makes sense that he doesn’t have his worldly knowledge etc being fluent in other languages and being able to tell a flesh light from a Pringles can, and it could be a future plot point on how whilst he becomes a symbol of justice instead of vengeance he also develops his skills

    i hope that you don’t mind, but if you do, spoiler for the prequel novel! it’s about the mention of bruce getting trained by alfred or not.
    it actually states in the novel that bruce wayne did get trained by alfred, but also got back from training in multiple martial arts and different forms of combat around the world after the, i guess you could say, time skip in the novel, right before he finally becomes the batman. correct me if i’m wrong, anyone, i listened to the audiobook while playing arkham knight so i might be getting it confused with something else lol.
