My mom is 83 years old. She had not been on a bike much since she was a kid. When I told her about Ragbrai she started riding the recumbent bike in her gym 30 minutes a day. She worked her way up to a couple hours. She then purchased an electric recumbent tandem bike. Her and my sister have been going out for 50 to 60 mile rides a few times a week. We all plan on doing Ragbrai for the first time this year. Cycling changes lives, my mom loves it.
WOW!! This is the best thing I've heard all day!! LOVE IT!! Hope to see you at RAGBRAI!!!
People rave about electric cars but an arguably greater impact is with electric bicycling. I see so many folks that would probably not be out on a bike riding everyday. What a great organization to highlight.
I'm with you 100%!!!
Hi Ryan! I need to thank you...because of this video, I had a huge thunderbolt for Cycling without age. So I started right away a new branch in Quebec, Saint-Jérôme. Trying to put everything in place for our first summer. Super excited. Thank you for sharing that kind of inspirational story❤
This activity pursued by Senior Centers would be welcomed hugely!
Maximized advertising activity for Senior Centers!
For anyone that has a parent in assisted living, you really know how special this is for them. How i would love to take my Mother out on the shared use trails. All they do is take the residents outside to the courtyard, never away from the facility which is very sad.
I hear you. My nana lived in a memory care unit and didn't get to breathe fresh air very often :(
... I'm not crying at this story ❤
Me neither 🥲
I’ve just become certified as a Cycling Without Age pilot in NH! Can’t wait for my first passenger!
That's awesome!!! Have so much fun out there
I’m 71 I was a runner for 40 years ! I fractured my femur skiing ⛷️, I discovered CATRIKE recumbent bike love it ! There nothings like running but this is the next best thing! I like to move it move it 😂
I've been a "pilot" for a similar program at a care facility for the past month. I love it! I was originally going to be involved with a local Cycling Without Age chapter but the pandemic put a halt to it before we could get started. The trishaw bike we're using was purchased through a grant to the care facility from our state. I mention that because there may be more opportunities for others that fall outside the scope of the two programs mentioned at the end of your video. It's truly an extraordinary way to volunteer and expose others to the joys of cycling while giving our riders a break from their normal day-to-day routine. My wife is a retired RN and she accompanies me for the first hour, sitting with memory care residents while I take them both on a ride. Thanks for highlighting this valuable program on your channel!
752 subs. Nice. Your almost there.
Wonderful 😊 Ryan . You just earned more wing's with this one . Grandma is smiling 😊 and sitting on that ride in your imagination . Right? I know bud . I imagine mine there to ❤ . Great work out for the rider to for body and soul 🎉 .
I wish that I could have taken my nana out for a ride before she died :) But she is definitely smiling down
Just signed up as a pilot two weeks ago for "cycling without age", as it's also called in Sweden. I had plans to do this about three years ago, but I guess you know what happened then. I'm really excited now!
Oh wow!! have so much fun!! and heja Sverige ;)
This is fantastic! Getting older people outside and able to see things they wouldn't in a vehicle, fresh air and sunshine - what a great program!
It’s such an incredible opportunity for them
Again, it was such a pleasure meeting you last week on Ragbrai!!! You truly are an awesome ambassador for a life well lived!!! Thank you for all of your awesome content!!
Once again Ryan.....thanks for showing us that there is more "power" to bicycles than just getting from point a A to point B! DD
Absolutely!! Thanks for watching
I would like to see more seniors riding low power electric assisted bikes with adult training wheels or perhaps trikes, made avail to them for little or no cost to help them get out on their own independently.
That would be cool too!
I heard about this about 2 years ago and I think it is wonderful
It sure is!
What an amazing dividend for Boulder for having those bike paths!
I agree!
What a brilliant idea, their faces said it all. There is nothing worse than being trapped indoors staring at 4 walls, well done to everyone involved in this wonderful project👍
I'm with you! Getting outside makes a world of difference
We're excited to see your new bike 👍
What a brilliant idea… this needs to catch on & be utilized by many more senior living facilities
Wish this program was also here in the Pikes Peak Region, it would be interesting to volunteer some time and have some fun too ! Right On Ryan !!!
good vibes
I am going to start piloting for Cycling Without Age in Minnesota this summer. I've been trained and am waiting for my first shift. I can't wait!
That’s awesome!!!
This is great in a small town nearby my hometown there is also a Rikscha for elder people, i like this idea
One of your best videos yet! I've actually applied and have been accepted as an affiliate in ABQ. Now I need to get more people involved to fundraise for my first trishaw, then we can get the bikes and trips rolling. Maybe do it for disabled people too.
Awww, thanks!!! This one has special meaning
This is an essential application for electric bikes. Thanks for your advocacy, Ryan!
It sure is!! Opens up so many doors
Ryan, I love this. You and Ed did a fantastic job on this video. You and I have a mutual friend in John Simmerman of Active Towns. I run the Lakewood chapter of Cycling Without Age and everything Ed says is absolutely true. It is such a positive experience for both passengers and pilots. Thanks so much.
I love John!! Such a good guy. So cool that you’re part of this awesome project
Both brilliant and beautiful! I wish something like this was possible in our community. We do not have even the slightest hint of bicycle friendly infrastructure. Still... it doesn't have to be a copy of this does it? The issue should not be what cannot be done but rather... "What can be done?" Thank you, once again for getting me thinking!
That's a good way to look at it...what can be done to make your community more bicycle friendly? Start there and the doors will open up!
Love it, what a great way to add some fulfilment into their lives they might not otherwise get to do on their own
Absolutely!
This is so great!! I’m going to see if there is a chapter here in North Ga that I could volunteer at.
Cool, I hope that there is one!
Walking, running, bicycles, escooters, green open spaces, electric buses and trams are all parts of a good transportation system
They sure are and i hope to see more of this in cities across the world
Wow, wow, this is such a lovely initiative. This is something I will gladly sign up for, giving time as a volunteer to put smiles on the faces of older folks.
It’s so cool!
Great heartwarming video Ryan.
Thanks!
Miles of Smiles
I LOVE MY BICYCLES.
Therefore I was nearly heartbroken 3 years ago, when I was told by several spine surgeons I would never walk un-assisted again.
Now, I am planning to ride my mid-drive single speed Zizzo Bike from the Gulf Coast (New Orleans) to the "Happy Valley" in Utah. I suppose that does indeed qualify as "assisted" LOL.
Doctors don't know everything - that's why they call Medicine a "practice"....
I'm going to see if there is a local chapter where I live in Portugal. Thank you for sharing this wonderful organization.
Oh cool!! I hope that you can find one!
Wow miles for smile 😊 great work. Thank you Ryan for sharing this video
Glad you enjoyed it
So awesome !!!!
What a great idea!
Great video. Thank you.
Elderly Man Women enjoy biking less Stress now ican see you Smile 😂
Super cool. Need this in Az during the winter months
That would be perfect in AZ
That was awesome Ryan. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I love this so much. I ride 15+ hrs a week and I've been thinking of some way to use some of those hours to help locally since watching a video of someone biking with the elderly awhile back. Thanks for the info!
Very cool! I hope that you can make it happen
I love this! ❤ thanks for sharing. This gives me some ideas.
I'm so glad!
Cities need to do more to encourage people to ride bicycles. Safe protected bike lanes and trails are needed so adults and children can ride safely. Speak up for bicycles in your community. Bicycles make life and cities better. Ask your local transportation planner and elected officials to support more protected bike lanes and trails. Children should be riding a bicycle to school and not be driven in a minivan.
My roommates and I (me 37, roommates in 50+ range) go on bike rides occasionally. One of my roommates said when you get older you stop moving and your health declines. Basically get out there biking or walking.
That seems to be one of the keys to good health!
First started in Copenhagen Denmark.
I seen 80 year old roadies pass me. Hope I can ride until the end. I see your greying much faster then me Duzer. Trying to get to a 1000 subs I'm surprised I'm not half grey. Lol just need 23 more.
Love this!
Awesome program! Thanks for informing us all.
You know it!
Awesome to see this kind of projects goin on
I agree, they’re so impactful
True Words Ryan, Bicycles can do way more than just changing the World. Bicycle Riding can be Cure & Stress Relief. It's more than just a Ride or Ferry that takes your wrinkled Butt from one Place to another. To me it's a Ton of Fun and kinda an Attitude to Life. Hey Ryan tnx for this Video. I need to share that one with my Facebookers. Happy Sunday from Southwest Germany 💯👌🙋♂
I agree 100% it’s a happiness machine
Such a wonderful project. 👍💕👍
It sure is!
A while back you had a video about meals on wheels folks who used bicycles. Would love a follow up?
This is amazing. I think I will look into it and see what I can do. My town is not a great place to ride bikes.
Go for it!
Omg...this is awesome...
I agree! So fun
God bless them !
I'm 62 but not on a bike long distance grocery biking and I don't own a car I got a million miles of riding easily
Hey. My partner is a Pilot in Wausau WI ❤❤❤
You are your own best health advocate.
Eat a healthy whole food plant based diet, reduce stress, get adequate sleep and exercise regularly.
Every adult and child should own a bicycle and ride it regularly. You will be healthier, happier and have lower transportation and health care expenses. Make a bicycle your first choice for short distance travel.
Almost first! Late because I was riding my bike!😄
Ryan I’ve come to a conclusion. You ride bikes like the Europeans . In your former like you were born and n amsterdam where bicycles are a huge part of life.
I think that you’re right!!
This is so RAD!
The raddest! Think of all the tricks you could do on the trishaw 😂
@@duzer nose wheelie s
I live in San diego best cycling weather in the world only 1 percent of the people here ride bikes
I'm strictly non electric pedal power those lithium ion batteries explode destroying property happens everyday
I have a handbicicle cus I'm in a wheelchair but I'm getting old and I would love to make my bike an Ebike. Any advice to where to go.
Ryan, my seat and my hands hurt. It's a Trek Marlin. How do you do it. The Priority has a better seat and grips?
Curious why neither the driver nor the passengers were wearing helmets
I wish the whole world was downhill
