I love this performance so much, I can't watch it without crying lol! Aaliyah had an AMAZING range. I can't take the "oh she had a small voice" crowd seriously. Plus, her breath control was top notch and she brought the emotion, warmth and charisma in every performance! That's why she's the Princess of R&B forever! 🖤🖤🖤
I always thought this was the perfect song for Aaliyah to sing because her entire life seems like it was about self-discovery...That's why I love one her final videos ' More Than A Woman' .... she exuded sheer confidence and growth. As she became older she got better and better and wanted to take the world by storm. That's why she was so interesting to watch.
BabyGirl was only 19. The haters can stay hating and discrediting her vocal ability. But facts are facts. Even when she sang The National Anthem at 15 she was belting. Also other songs like Street Thing , The One I Gave My Heart To , her cover of Giving Up by Donny Hathaway.
Aaliyah!!!! My fav singer!!.....This song does start off soft but however her voice was a little shaky in the beginning. However when singing soft like she did your voice can become pitchy and shaky when trying to hit certain notes because of lack of air support. She may have been nervous but who wouldn't be at her age and not to mention the pressure she was under. The youngest African American female to sing at the Oscars!!!....Overall her small nervousness actually fit the message in the song but in the middle she found that courage to see her through AND PUSHED THROUGH!!! THOSE VOCALS AND RUNS AT THE END WERE AMAZING. SHE DID AN EXCELLENT JOB AND THIS IS MY FAV PERFORMANCE BY HER!!! #AALIYAH #BABYGIRL #RIP #AALIYAHFAN
The National Anthem... I think she was trying to figure out which way to sing it while she was performing she did a good job but I think she was very nervous doing it...
You’re always gonna have your haters . But I always say “you got haters you doing something right” the chick that played her in the biopic sounded nothing like her . AalIiyah KILLED IT . She was amazing all the way around . The orchestra was dope . Thanks bro I only seen bits and peices of this in tributes and stuff . I loved her performance of “Try Again” during MTV Spring Break if you didn’t check That out . She killed it
Fun Fact: Aaliyah was listed as having one of the best performances of the the night as while as one of the best dressed. Some of my favorite Aaliyah performances I would say are... Her Superfest ‘97’ performances Jay Leno “97” UNICEF Gala “97” Summer Jam “97” ( her lower register was sick). Vibe “97” Christmas in Washington “98” TRL “00” Romeo Must Die Kick Off Special “00” Rashad’s Graduation “00” and Jay Leno “01” just to name a few.
It was years ago on her Birthday, a fan was kind enough to share it at the annual meet-ups, talk about beautiful( she was singing gospel, I can’t remember the song...but it literally is one of her best vocal performances) I was lucky enough to hear it only one time and I cherish that, hopefully in the future others can hear.
I completely agree with you! You can tell that she was a little nervous in the beginning, but she did an amazing job. I love to know what an Aaliyah performance would look like today.
just discovered your channel and as lifelong aaliyah fan i love it so much ! i discovered her music through watching anastasia as a kid. i was so struck by her song on the credits.
I subscribed , but I've watched alot of Aaliyahs Live Performances and when I was learning how to sing again , it was Aaliyah Live Performances I would watch to get vocal tips , but Vocally Aaliyah was slept on to some degree, her chest voice was very rich and raw and very jazzy, the best part of her voice , but I think her chest voice wasn't something that she was pushed to do often imo , and I understand why, because her mixed voice / head voice does sound really pretty especially on tracks and it's very radio friendly , I know she is considered a soft pretty singer , but I thought she had a stronger voice than Janet Jackson , Ciara, J Lo , Ashanti, Ashanti Voice Is Quite Similar but it wasn't as Jazzy imo , but I think Aaliyah technique was better than all 4 ladies , But This Oscar Performance was Fire
Thank You!!! And to me that was a great vocal analysis for Aaliyah especially in comparison with the other singers you named. I could always hear the jazzy influence too, it was always fun to see how Aaliyah would interpret a song live compared to the studio recorded version.
Great video! This is one of Aaliyah's BEST performances!!! I love the entire outfit, stage presence, and AURA she possessed! Aaliyah's critics can SIT DOWN period. Aaliyah's charisma and UNDENIABLE talent speaks for itself. She definitely was a SANGER and just because she had softer vocals with a smooth tone she was able to carry out those BELTS period! Nowadays singers don't even sing anymore. They just have limited vocals and auto-tune to back it up. Aaliyah will forever be known for her legacy. Her ability to sing live really PROVED a lot of people wrong. Tony you did a great job as always! #TeamAaliyah
“Did y’all hear that?” 😂. I liked this performance but the nervousness at the beginning detracted it for me. You can see the difference in her confidence with this one and her performance of Journey to the Past on Rosie O’Donnell. I loved that one the most. My favorite live performance of hers, unfortunately has no video footage. But the audio is on RUclips. The “Never Comin Back” performance at the Budweiser Superfest of 97 is 🔥 She was so confident and having fun with the runs at the end of the song. You could tell she was in her zone ❤️
Lmaoooo I feel u!!! I just wish Aaliyah let loose and had fun in more performances too the whole way through. Then again I can only imagine singing live at the most watched Oscars in history
Aaliyah delivered vocally evil ppl who say she can't sing they need serious prayer and they have to take their medication,I hate when ppl belittle her, she's versatile vocally and great, haters should stop flocking on her performances where she struggled vocally, every performing artist had at some point had a bad performance.
I absolutely loved this performance of journey to the past from Aaliyah it was so classy she was so beautiful and she killed it 🙌🏿🔥🔥she showed them one she could really do vocally but when she performed journey to the past on the Rosie O’Donnell show that one has to be my favorite she was so beautiful her transition from head voice to chest to lower register all while be sick was amazing ruclips.net/video/teSaJ-V5HBE/видео.html
Yes she was you could feel her sprit in that performance her presence was felt and if she was still her today she would’ve had more time to work more with her vocals like she wanted to do
@@tonnymitch4016 exactly that shows her confidence and true dedication to what she truly loved to do I miss her so much 😍😍🥺but she will forever be in our hearts ♥️
It's weird to see her performing live. Don't get me wrong she kiled this perfoemnance but maybe it's also it's because she wasn't too much of a live performer . But that's where I feel her uncle and the rest of that label held her back at . Had she been with another label she would've done so many more live performances .
How can you doubt someone who had vocal training their whole life?! She been singing her whole life, she had a vocal coach since the age of 9 and continue to work with her on her first 2 albums.
I never get why people say she sounds nervous at the start thats how the song goes even the recorded version. Next reaction Aaliyah One In A Million live at Jay Leno then The One I gave my heart to live in the Blue outfit.
@@TonyTurner Yes she did pull it all together that chest voice though had loads of potential and more power than people realise. That's why I disagree with people who say she had a soft voice. She chose to sing softly solely for stylistic purposes but Aaliyah could hang in there with people who are classified as "sangers". All she lacked was confidence but the voice was there.
Have you reacted to her singing this one called "Giving Up?" Wow!! This was the song from Sparkle. She would have been awesome. ruclips.net/video/OWv8KyNj2jM/видео.html
Babygirl was singing about herself, you can hear the conviction in her voice. She was determined to live her best life, despite experiencing R. Kelly. She was an angel on Earth. ❤
I love her full voice just much as her falsetto. It’s very rich

Yes, it’s from my understanding that Aaliyah’s mother has a cd with quite a few things that the public has yet to hear.
Aaliyah can sing anything and any note, from high to low. She is an amazing singer. I love how powerful her voice is, and I love her range too.
