I was going to make my own comment but you said it all! It's a trend today, kids wishing they grew up in the 80s, and of course, why wouldn't they? It was awesome and I'm so glad I was able to experience it!
I was born in 1961 and grew up in a very different world than today's kids. I had fun outside with friends and I felt safe. 50s, 60s, 70s best music. I graduated in 1980, I was 19 lived the 80s, lol. It was so it was so much fun, unlike today and for today's kids :(

I’m sad because all the people I knew and enjoyed the 1980’s with growing up are gone as well so I only have RUclips to watch, listen and reminisce with, it all happened so fast, no doubt I miss the friends I had and grew up with in the 1980’s
Hey Rebecca you forgot the mall! Everything was about the mall when I was growing up in the 80s. All my friends and I would meet up at the mall. Before I could even drive I would ride my bike to the mall or take the city bus for 10 cents to get to the mall. Favorite hang outs, Spencers, the food court, the cinema (across parking lot from mall), Tape World, and my ultimate favorite Video game arcade (Aladdin's Castle).
Growing up in the 70's and being a teen in the 80's was the best. I was 12 in 1980 and those were the best times to be a teen. The girls, the fashion, the music, the parties, etc. I would trade everything to go back and do it all over again. Back then, you were never in the house - even in the winter. After breakfast, you went out to hang with your friends, cam home for lunch, went back out until dinner, and then back out until the street lights came on. No cell phones, no social media, you knew what bathroom to use, rainbows were just a beautiful part of nature, no one cared if you were a democrat or republican, etc. Truly a magical time...
I'm so glad I was born in the 60's. The 70's and 80's were the best decades. I thoroughly enjoyed part 1 and am looking forward to the sequel. Thank you for the memories. 😊

In 2016 I was volunteering at a State Park where there was 3 of us born 1970, the odds of that seemed crazy to me, but unfortunately one of em has left us from a stroke.😕 Remember when 2001 sounded so far into the future?!
I was born in 1974..i still remember my mom having an 8 track player in her car. Growing up in the late 70s, early 80s, we had the best video games, music, tv shows, movies, etc. To go back for a week knowing then what i know now would be amazing.

I'm a 60s kid and went through high school (class of 82), then college. What a fun decade it was! The teen angst movies like 16 Candles, Just One of the Guys, and Breakfast Club were so great. Also with buying albums, it was fun to read all the liner notes, look at the cover art, and listen with your friends until you almost wore out the needle, lol. There won't be another decade as unique or fun as the 80s. Thanks for posting!😊

I was born in 72,and these vids NEVER make me feel old,in fact,they make me sad,cause there's a loss of innocence that goes with it. I also think about how kids of today are so out of touch with human interaction,and how they may never understand the importance, of a simple trip to the mall,to hang out,and physically do some"social networking,"but that's a long forgotten pastime. Everything comes full circle ,so you never know. 👍
Human reaction in person was just part of every day life. Now it seems many younger people just feel a little off when put in those situations where they have to do that. For many of us it's still natural. Times have changed and I'm not saying one way is better than the other but I'm grateful I have gotten to experience what I did when I did. Thank you for watching!
Born a few days into 81 here and I definitely agree with you. I wouldn't trade my "analog" youth for anything and I feel bad for young people now. Mental illness is at an all time high and people are seriously _afraid_ to make phone calls, it's wild. The good thing is a lot of young people are realizing how addicted they are to screens & social media and recognizing the detrimental effects too much technology is having on them. There's kind of a movement with gen Z now where they're switching to flip phones to "detox", to be more present in real life and less dependent on technology. So there's still hope!
@@RhettyforHistory 😇 he's the reason I try to be kind to strangers and giving to the homeless when I was a kid in San Francisco. Watching so much homelessness and Mr Rogers would have episodes about that kind of stuff.
I am not sure now long Mister Rogers' Neighborhood ran in reruns, but I allowed my toddler to watch Mister Rogers and Thomas the Tank Engine in the mid- late-2000s. We limited TV time so we chose programs that would be a good influence.
I was born in 2001 yet I have so much appreciation for 80s culture. From the movies to the music, just the overall vibe. Yes things weren’t perfect but it was definitely more simpler than how things are now and I envy that I didn’t get to experience it. If reincarnation is true, send me back in time to enjoy the 80s😂

My kids are your age. Born 1999 and 2002. They were so bored all the time. Never wanted to go outside. Hardly even learned to interact with others face to face because of texting. I think they just had too much stuff and became disinterested in everything. We were never bored in the 80’s. We used a phone rarely and just to make a plan for what we were doing. Spent all day in the woods building forts or roaming the neighborhood with a pack of friends. Rode bikes everywhere even miles away. Parents never knew where we were. We just had to be home before dark. It was awesome.
I guess this makes me Sophia off the Golden Girls. In '80, I was 20. 😄 All of these, plus a few more, are firmly planted in my memory. Thanks for another fun trip down Memory Lane.
Normally I'm filling with the feeling of nostalgia when watching these, but sadly I was already 17 in 1980, so now I'm just feeling old! Fun Fact, in Back To The Future when they are in the future, there is still a payphone on the sidewalk!

I was class of 82, was married in 83 and had my 3 children in the 80's. MTV was my favorite channel and the pop and rock music was awesome. The telephone was our means to communicate with anyone and no internet or cellphone. Now it seems we would all be lost without them.
I was born in 81 so I got to be a kid kid in the 80’s and a rebellious youth in the 90’s. I mostly remember Saturday morning cartoons, going to the arcade at the mall by myself, Star Wars and Indiana Jones, Pee Wee’s playhouse, Fraggle Rock, Muppet Babies, The California Raisins, Listening to Thriller on the radio during the Halloween season, He-Man, being scared of my My Buddy doll after seeing Child’s Play, going to pizza-hut and playing pac-man on the old flat top screen tables while eating pizza, watching MTV for the first time while on a family trip in a hotel room, Seeing a kid with a green Mohawk while taking the bus to school and blowing my mind that hair could look like that, being called a poindexter by a car of teenagers while walking home from school and asking my mom what a poindexter even was, sharing a Nintendo with my 2 brothers and sister, The Goonies, Watching Mr Wizards world (anyone remember that gem?). I don’t like to live in the past but I often think it was better times back then for a variety of reasons. I’d like to think it’s not just because I was a kid and things were easier or that nostalgia is an addictive drug sometimes, but truly we had a better community of people. Social Media has truly stolen a human element that is integral for our all around well being. I’m sad kids today don’t even know this. When you even try to explain this you are looked at and treated like a lunatic. We can only do our small part. If you have kids steer them away from all that garbage. It’s just poison. If you’re an adult and partake you should know better. Turn it off and get involved.
In the 70s when I started playing guitar, I couldn't afford a guitar tuner, so I used the phone's dial tone. This remained a habit until the early 90s.
I grew up in the 80's. I believe we had just the right amount of technology to where it was helpful but not harming society. I can remember the absolute wonder when my parents purchased an original IBM PC (4.77 mhz processor, green screen and TWO 5.25" floppy drives) in 1981 when I was 7 years old... started my life long love of computers, but it's just not the same today.
You got on board with the computer world early. My first one was a commodore 64. I remember at the time I was the only one with that. I loved it because it filled in the game gap between the Atari and the Nintendo. My friends didn't understand why I had it until they saw my huge game selection. Then I had trouble getting them off of it. Thank you for watching and sharing your memories.

I was born in 1980. I love music and guitar, and back in May of 2018 my band opened for Stryper at the Val Air Ballroom in Des Moines, Iowa. I met Michael Sweet and talked with him while I was plinking around on my guitar on stage. It was an amazing moment! Long live 80s music!!
You're only as old as you feel. George Bernard Shaw said it best. "We don't stop playing because we grow old. We grow old because we stop playing." I'm going to be the old guy at the front of the loudest heavy metal concert there ever was, cane in hand, showing the kids how you freaking headbang. Pick me up when my hip gives out and prop me against the stage, it won't stop me! Hell, retro stuff is popular with modern kids now (most of my friends are significantly younger than me, and they're into things like Walkmen, vintage cameras, and vinyl records), so I'll get to tell the kids that I got to experience it first hand!
Those are some great words and I believe them to be true. Those that stay active and have fun doing it are the ones that seem to be happy and live better and longer. It is interesting how some of the retro stuff is popular again. Some of the shows streaming have helped with that. But even without that it just seems to come back around. Thank you for watching!
Isn't it strange how things change every decade. . . The 80s were definitely simpler times. I miss physically going out on the weekend and buying a few music cassettes for the party later that day. Used to buy cassettes Saturdays and go out and rent movies on Sundays 👍
Wow, i was seven and i distinctly remember that happening to jessica, all the constant news coverage and the movie afterward. I can remember praying she would be ok and have a long, healthy life. It was absolutly heartwrenching.
I remember too. I was at a party and the TV news was on talking about a baby stuck in a well. I saw them rescue her that night. Glad Jessica is doing well today!
I was an 80’s kid, this video hit me hard. Omg. I made my mom buy me the chipmunks Christmas record and played it to death all year round. My poor parents. Hahaha great times.

The 80s took me from ages 9 to 19, from grade school to junior high to high school to college. It was definitely my decade. From 1990 to 1998 I was in college and then grad school and cut off from the world. By the time November '98 came along and I resurfaced, the world was already so different.
I'm 59 i graduated school in 1983 and I remember everything from the mid and late 70's but most especially from the 80's that includes tv shows, movies, music, comic books, foods, beverages and anything else from the 80's down here in Southern Oklahoma Thanks for the memories.🇺🇲📺📻🇺🇲
Saturday morning cartoons was a ritual for us 5 kids in the 80's. With only 1 tv, fights between brothers & sisters on watching G.I Joe, or My Little Pony was a NORM!! Good'ole Days 😊

I think most people look back at the first two decades they were alive and wish the world could still be that way. But as someone born mid-1979, and growing up in the 80’s and 90’s, it really did feel like the “sweet spot” in history to be a kid. Before that things were just a little more tumultuous, not as connected, and technology was pretty basic. In the years since, the world has become so much more cold and corporate, and technology and communications have become so ubiquitous and out of control that I don’t think we really even appreciate any of it, and things like social media, cell phones, and streaming video consume our lives. But in the 80’s and 90’s I feel like we had the best of both worlds. It was a pretty stabile and economically prosperous time, innovations happened on practically a weekly basis, there was lots of cool stuff for kids. No, hardly anyone had a cell phone until the late 90’s, but everyone a “a” phone. It was just at your house. No, video games weren’t in HD, surround sound, and connected to online communities, but all video games were so new and exciting in the 80’s and 90’s, and growing so fast. And the joy of going to a physical place like an arcade was a social thing in a real sense, and you weren’t just in your house all day. We didn’t have GPS in our cars, but all that meant was that that you had to think a little a plan things out. But there was joy in just the spontaneity of not knowing exactly where you were, and exploring too. There weren’t streaming services or on-demand for things like cartoons, but when you did get them on Saturday mornings or maybe the evening or early morning, man, it was so much more special. As an adult, I’ve honestly been pretty lost in the world today because of how much I miss all of these ways from when I was a kid. I feel like most things that I ever loved have now gone away, with nothing replacing them, and it’s painful.
Technology is an interesting thing to watching develop and change. In some ways it is good and then in other ways not so much. I do enjoy the face to face interactions that seemed to happen a lot more than what they do now. There was a time when most people not only knew their neighbors but also everyone on their street or road. You're right about about some of the joy being gone and missing from going places like the arcade. It's really just not the same at all. I would say you're assessment is correct, but I would change the years to the mid 70s to mid 90s. The world kind of started going downhill around 1989, and after 1995, it just spiraled downward in terms of music quality, etc., and just never made a recovery.
Born in 79. God I miss my childhood. Atlanta was the center of the universe for me. Riding around in moms car backseat playing with gi joe and transformers listening to 80’s music.
It's fun to watch these nostalgia videos. Amazing how fast time flies by. As a kid times seemed like it took forever to go by, and we all couldn't wait to grow up. Don't get me wrong. I'm much happier as an adult ( the 80s ) wasn't such a good decade for me despite all the cool and fun nostalgic memories it, because of other Not so good things that also happened. But in the end I am happy to have been born when I was the 70s was cool, and the late 80s and 90s is when things got better. Funny how life is just a bunch of memories. Everything becomes a memory as fast as you see and hear it.

Can you sometimes cover cigarette loads in one of your videos about things from the 70's 80's, 90's I know they were still around in the 90s but somewhere they stopped making them due to some people getting injured by them? I'd love to hear any info on them. An interesting thing about the old internet, it may have been slow, but it was fun to totally customize it, back than games like solitaire and minesweeper were free on every computer, I miss the personalization of how you could make everything look on your screen and even change the sounds,
I was born in ‘83. The cartoons, comic books, TV shows, my first McDonald’s lunch with my family, walkman, hot wheels, lego, GI Joe, Transformers, Indiana Jones movies. Michael Jackson, a lot of candy, family dinners. This video bought back so much memory. People who were born in the 2000s have absolutely no idea how lucky our generation was. We experienced life without the internet.
I remember MTV's first video coming on, it was a big event. The first music vid they showed was "Video Killed the Radio Star" by the Buggles. Not long after that was Jackson's "Thriller" which was also a huge event that we little ones planned for - it was a maybe 15-20 minutes long horror story around the music. At 9 years old his Thriller album was the first one I bought with my own money :)
MTV was huge and then Thriller took it all to a whole other level. It was like a mini movie really. It never gets old watching it either. Thank you for watching and sharing your memories with us!
I remember hearing about MTV at a summer party down on LBI. We didn’t have cable yet because all our lines were underground. It sounded wacky. We all laughed.
My first introduction to MTV was at my Grandmothers Shore house in the late 80's. We never had cable growing up, but my Grandmother had cable at the shore house. The cable box was a long narrow box with numbers on it and you pushed the button in front of the number to change the channel. I pushed #13, which was MTV. On the screen a band was playing, but the band was all skeletons. At some point they turned into people. I remember saying "Mom, check out this skeleton band playing! neat!". The song got stuck in my head. Later that night I would be singing "I will get by....I will get by...I will get byyyyyy...I will survive" walking down the boardwalk. I never knew until I got older that i was singing Touch of Grey by the Grateful Dead. Some time later my friend next door got cable and we would always put on channel 13 and sit and watch music videos after school. We got so excited hearing our favorite song come on and then being able to see the artist and their video for the song, which you have never seen before.
I remember Down In The Valley In Minnesota...these record stores always had that unique smell, black light posters, tickets for sale for upcoming concerts and smoking paraphernalia.
They really were their own cultural spot. Those posters with black lights and a lava lamp were really cool! Thank you for watching and sharing your memories!
Born in 87 so I'm more of a 90s baby. But I still say 80s had the best music and media overall. Born just in time to experience the world pre-internet and before we went through that portal around 2009.
The 1980’s was the best decade ever. Movies, music, the neon colors, TV shows like Miami Vice, the excitement of going to the mall with friends or cruising around with friends sure beats burying your face in your phone while you sit alone in mommy’s basement. Totally 80’s forever!

I’m an 80s baby. Even in the 80s, I wish I could go back. Nostalgia used to be just a “thing”….. it’s much different with how things are now, and it’s real. Things were much more simple if you wanted them to be.

One comment: Record stores & record players never became extinct, they still exist everywhere, and Target has a record area in their electronics department. Shopping for vinyl is one of my many, many favorite 80's-era activities to do with my daughters, in addition to roller skating, thrift-store shopping, watching 80's movies, and on & on & on ... I am so thankful that they're into the 80's, just like their mommy, as well as the 70's, AND all the music 🥰 ❤️❤️❤️

They definitely looked a lot older. I am 50 yrs old, and I get mistaken for a lot younger. I think it's genetics, and Rue just wasn't blessed with the "young" gene. It didn't help that most of them had grey or white hair to play up the elderly angle. I used to love that show as a child, but half of the jokes flew right over my head. As an adult, I watch it, and I can appreciate the humor even more.
I wasnt an 80s kid, but was still young enough to enjoy the the decade. I may be an older guy now, but am mighty happy to have lived through the 70s and 80s. Feel sorry for those too young to have done so.
I sooo wish I can go back in time. This was an awesome time to live. Music, movies, fashion and food was awesome. This day in age, it’s terrible. I remember watching MTV and VH1 pop up videos with my friends after school. You can go outside till the street lights come on and now you can’t do that. I graduated in 1978 and got my first places in the early 80's. Freedom! Was my theme. I had my first car decked out with a cool 8 track player, blasted my favorite Boston album. Had my 1st apartment, my first boyfriend, a "boom box", and first jobs. Life was great back then. Wish I could return to that time.
Yes, the 80s were by far my favorite decade. The music, the movies atari/Nintendo cd's, tapes record's BMX bikes, skateboards, everything was so much better, and nobody had a cellphone.

I remember that pop rock bands always had pins that people decorated vests hats or backpacks with stickers too. Audio recording has improved lots though the MP4 doesnt get static like cassette tapes
In reality the records were better than cassettes as far as quality but they certainly weren't as durable or portable. The digital world definitely took over and I understand why. Thank you for watching julia.

Splash was cast so perfectly. The 80s was the last decade before before we were immersed into the www and everyone having mobile phones. Research was done inside libraries for the most part. Magazines were more important. That’s been replaced to a large extent by reading online articles.
Splash was a great movie and John Candy was in a lot of great ones. It was a huge loss when he died. Researching school projects, reports and work required a lot more than it does today. It always makes me both happy and nostalgic that I grew up to own the first Thriller edition, and the 25th anniversary edition, and the 40th anniversary edition... The worst is it did not feel like 15 years passed between those 2 collector editions. Damn, it goes faster and faster.

The attention faded, he went through a divorce, and his life fell apart. Some suggest that the fame, and subsequent loss of fame, did him in. He eventually took his own life at the age of 37.
This is one of the best channels on RUclips I grew up in 74 so I was in 80s kid and everything on this channel I experienced I remember watching The karate kid watching movies from John Candy I remember record getting my first rap record was Eazy-E and then I remember making my mixtapes put him on a Memorex tape I remember VHS to record movies I remember when my mom and dad bought it it was so expensive but they were happy that they were they could afford it it's amazing how time passes I'm now 50 years old and I remember Mr rogers' neighborhood I never watched him but I remember him won't you be my neighbor I remember that part YOU HAVE A GREAT CHANNEL AND I'M AN 80S KID AND I LOOK FORWARD TO WATCHING ALL THIS STUFF I remember Pac-Man my mom and dad bought me an Atari 2600 and I had Pac-Man I had donkey Kong space Invaders they were a bunch of old video games and I remember having to pull out the video game out of the council and blow on it or clean it with some rubbing alcohol with a q-tip slide it back in and it will work you know before I knew it I would look at my parents as a kid and think wow they're getting old and here I am my mom passed away at 56 my dad passed away at 58 within 3 months of each other they were together ever since junior high my dad went off to Vietnam came back had me and my brother we grew up in nice houses good neighborhoods but time does fly before you know it you're 10 years old 15 years old 20 years old and here I am looking at 50 it's amazing I remember watching the program Goonies there's all kinds of things that I remember from the '80s I remember AOL where you had to wait for it to connect and had the free CDs to get hours to go on the internet how we hold a phone today times have definitely changed but I look forward to your next video great channel keep up the good work 4/17/24 Str8Tattedup
I loved fruit roll ups. They were real fruit, though. The ones that came later were/are nasty. Also, John Candy’s character was carrying his dead wife in his trunk in Planes, Trains and Automobiles. 😮
Cassettes & vinyl records are making a comeback. My daughter (19) has started a collection. We had to get her a record player so she could listen to them. I think she currently has 3 records, of which 2 of them are double albums. They're going for around $30 - $40 these days.
I started the 80s at age 8 and ended at age 18 (Dec 79 to Dec 89). I remember almost everything in this video. The only thing I didn't remember was that diet coke came out in 81. Also I never own a record player and only started in the late 80s going to record stores for cassette tapes.
Prior to Diet Coke Tab was the go to drink if you wanted a coke product. It was their answer to Diet Pepsi which was a product of the mid 60s. Thank you for watching!

@RhettyforHistory HI Rhett. Our T V program only started at 7 pm to 10 pm. One day was in English the next day was Afrikaans, that was the language of the early white settlers from Germany , France & Holland. It is still spoken today, with School & University's. When we lived in the Free State not many people spoke English. Hope that helps. I forgot no children's programs. 😕. It's all changed now. 😊

I was born in 1961 and grew up in a very different world than today's kids. I had fun outside with friends and I felt safe. 50s, 60s, 70s best music. I graduated in 1980, I was 19 lived the 80s, lol. It was so it was so much fun, unlike today and for today's kids :(

Hey Rebecca you forgot the mall! Everything was about the mall when I was growing up in the 80s. All my friends and I would meet up at the mall. Before I could even drive I would ride my bike to the mall or take the city bus for 10 cents to get to the mall. Favorite hang outs, Spencers, the food court, the cinema (across parking lot from mall), Tape World, and my ultimate favorite Video game arcade (Aladdin's Castle).

Growing up in the 70's and being a teen in the 80's was the best. I was 12 in 1980 and those were the best times to be a teen. The girls, the fashion, the music, the parties, etc. I would trade everything to go back and do it all over again. Back then, you were never in the house - even in the winter. After breakfast, you went out to hang with your friends, cam home for lunch, went back out until dinner, and then back out until the street lights came on. No cell phones, no social media, you knew what bathroom to use, rainbows were just a beautiful part of nature, no one cared if you were a democrat or republican, etc. Truly a magical time...
Yeah, and adults didn’t throw temper tantrums every time they saw a friggin rainbow on something. 🙄

I was born in 1974..i still remember my mom having an 8 track player in her car. Growing up in the late 70s, early 80s, we had the best video games, music, tv shows, movies, etc. To go back for a week knowing then what i know now would be amazing.

I'm a 60s kid and went through high school (class of 82), then college. What a fun decade it was! The teen angst movies like 16 Candles, Just One of the Guys, and Breakfast Club were so great. Also with buying albums, it was fun to read all the liner notes, look at the cover art, and listen with your friends until you almost wore out the needle, lol. I was born in 72,and these vids NEVER make me feel old,in fact,they make me sad,cause there's a loss of innocence that goes with it. I also think about how kids of today are so out of touch with human interaction,and how they may never understand the importance, of a simple trip to the mall,to hang out,and physically do some"social networking,"but that's a long forgotten pastime. Everything comes full circle ,so you never know. 👍
Human reaction in person was just part of every day life. Now it seems many younger people just feel a little off when put in those situations where they have to do that. For many of us it's still natural. Times have changed and I'm not saying one way is better than the other but I'm grateful I have gotten to experience what I did when I did. Thank you for watching!
Born a few days into 81 here and I definitely agree with you. I wouldn't trade my "analog" youth for anything and I feel bad for young people now. Mental illness is at an all time high and people are seriously _afraid_ to make phone calls, it's wild. The good thing is a lot of young people are realizing how addicted they are to screens & social media and recognizing the detrimental effects too much technology is having on them. There's kind of a movement with gen Z now where they're switching to flip phones to "detox", to be more present in real life and less dependent on technology. So there's still hope!

I am not sure now long Mister Rogers' Neighborhood ran in reruns, but I allowed my toddler to watch Mister Rogers and Thomas the Tank Engine in the mid- late-2000s. We limited TV time so we chose programs that would be a good influence.

I was born in 2001 yet I have so much appreciation for 80s culture. From the movies to the music, just the overall vibe. Yes things weren’t perfect but it was definitely more simpler than how things are now and I envy that I didn’t get to experience it. If reincarnation is true, send me back in time to enjoy the 80s😂

My kids are your age. Born 1999 and 2002. They were so bored all the time. Never wanted to go outside. Hardly even learned to interact with others face to face because of texting. I think they just had too much stuff and became disinterested in everything.
We were never bored in the 80’s. We used a phone rarely and just to make a plan for what we were doing. Spent all day in the woods building forts or roaming the neighborhood with a pack of friends. Rode bikes everywhere even miles away. Parents never knew where we were. We just had to be home before dark. It was awesome.
I guess this makes me Sophia off the Golden Girls. In '80, I was 20. 😄 All of these, plus a few more, are firmly planted in my memory. Thanks for another fun trip down Memory Lane.

I was class of 82, was married in 83 and had my 3 children in the 80's. MTV was my favorite channel and the pop and rock music was awesome.
The telephone was our means to communicate with anyone and no internet or cellphone. Now it seems we would all be lost without them.

I was born in 81 so I got to be a kid kid in the 80’s and a rebellious youth in the 90’s. I mostly remember Saturday morning cartoons, going to the arcade at the mall by myself, Star Wars and Indiana Jones, Pee Wee’s playhouse, Fraggle Rock, Muppet Babies, The California Raisins, Listening to Thriller on the radio during the Halloween season, He-Man, being scared of my My Buddy doll after seeing Child’s Play, going to pizza-hut and playing pac-man on the old flat top screen tables while eating pizza, watching MTV for the first time while on a family trip in a hotel room, Seeing a kid with a green Mohawk while taking the bus to school and blowing my mind that hair could look like that, being called a poindexter by a car of teenagers while walking home from school and asking my mom what a poindexter even was, sharing a Nintendo with my 2 brothers and sister, The Goonies, Watching Mr Wizards world (anyone remember that gem?). I don’t like to live in the past but I often think it was better times back then for a variety of reasons. I’d like to think it’s not just because I was a kid and things were easier or that nostalgia is an addictive drug sometimes, but truly we had a better community of people. Social Media has truly stolen a human element that is integral for our all around well being. I’m sad kids today don’t even know this. When you even try to explain this you are looked at and treated like a lunatic. We can only do our small part. If you have kids steer them away from all that garbage. It’s just poison. If you’re an adult and partake you should know better. Turn it off and get involved.
In the 70s when I started playing guitar, I couldn't afford a guitar tuner, so I used the phone's dial tone. This remained a habit until the early 90s.

I grew up in the 80's. I believe we had just the right amount of technology to where it was helpful but not harming society. I can remember the absolute wonder when my parents purchased an original IBM PC (4.77 mhz processor, green screen and TWO 5.25" floppy drives) in 1981 when I was 7 years old... started my life long love of computers, but it's just not the same today.
You got on board with the computer world early. My first one was a commodore 64. I remember at the time I was the only one with that. I loved it because it filled in the game gap between the Atari and the Nintendo. My friends didn't understand why I had it until they saw my huge game selection. Then I had trouble getting them off of it. Thank you for watching and sharing your memories.

I was born in 1980. I love music and guitar, and back in May of 2018 my band opened for Stryper at the Val Air Ballroom in Des Moines, Iowa. I met Michael Sweet and talked with him while I was plinking around on my guitar on stage. It was an amazing moment! Long live 80s music!!
You're only as old as you feel. George Bernard Shaw said it best. "We don't stop playing because we grow old. We grow old because we stop playing." I'm going to be the old guy at the front of the loudest heavy metal concert there ever was, cane in hand, showing the kids how you freaking headbang. Pick me up when my hip gives out and prop me against the stage, it won't stop me! Hell, retro stuff is popular with modern kids now (most of my friends are significantly younger than me, and they're into things like Walkmen, vintage cameras, and vinyl records), so I'll get to tell the kids that I got to experience it first hand!
Those are some great words and I believe them to be true. Those that stay active and have fun doing it are the ones that seem to be happy and live better and longer. It is interesting how some of the retro stuff is popular again. Some of the shows streaming have helped with that. But even without that it just seems to come back around. Thank you for watching!

The 80s took me from ages 9 to 19, from grade school to junior high to high school to college. It was definitely my decade. From 1990 to 1998 I was in college and then grad school and cut off from the world. By the time November '98 came along and I resurfaced, the world was already so different.

I think most people look back at the first two decades they were alive and wish the world could still be that way. But as someone born mid-1979, and growing up in the 80’s and 90’s, it really did feel like the “sweet spot” in history to be a kid. Before that things were just a little more tumultuous, not as connected, and technology was pretty basic. In the years since, the world has become so much more cold and corporate, and technology and communications have become so ubiquitous and out of control that I don’t think we really even appreciate any of it, and things like social media, cell phones, and streaming video consume our lives. But in the 80’s and 90’s I feel like we had the best of both worlds. It was a pretty stabile and economically prosperous time, innovations happened on practically a weekly basis, there was lots of cool stuff for kids. No, hardly anyone had a cell phone until the late 90’s, but everyone a “a” phone. It was just at your house. No, video games weren’t in HD, surround sound, and connected to online communities, but all video games were so new and exciting in the 80’s and 90’s, and growing so fast. And the joy of going to a physical place like an arcade was a social thing in a real sense, and you weren’t just in your house all day. We didn’t have GPS in our cars, but all that meant was that that you had to think a little a plan things out. But there was joy in just the spontaneity of not knowing exactly where you were, and exploring too. There weren’t streaming services or on-demand for things like cartoons, but when you did get them on Saturday mornings or maybe the evening or early morning, man, it was so much more special. As an adult, I’ve honestly been pretty lost in the world today because of how much I miss all of these ways from when I was a kid. I feel like most things that I ever loved have now gone away, with nothing replacing them, and it’s painful.
Technology is an interesting thing to watching develop and change. In some ways it is good and then in other ways not so much. I do enjoy the face to face interactions that seemed to happen a lot more than what they do now. There was a time when most people not only knew their neighbors but also everyone on their street or road. You're right about about some of the joy being gone and missing from going places like the arcade. It's really just not the same at all. Thank you for watching and sharing some of your memories and thoughts.

I would say you're assessment is correct, but I would change the years to the mid 70s to mid 90s. The world kind of started going downhill around 1989, and after 1995, it just spiraled downward in terms of music quality, etc., and just never made a recovery.
Born in 79. God I miss my childhood. Atlanta was the center of the universe for me. Riding around in moms car backseat playing with gi joe and transformers listening to 80’s music.
It's fun to watch these nostalgia videos. Amazing how fast time flies by. As a kid times seemed like it took forever to go by, and we all couldn't wait to grow up. Don't get me wrong. I'm much happier as an adult ( the 80s ) wasn't such a good decade for me despite all the cool and fun nostalgic memories it, because of other Not so good things that also happened. But in the end I am happy to have been born when I was the 70s was cool, and the late 80s and 90s is when things got better. Funny how life is just a bunch of memories. Everything becomes a memory as fast as you see and hear it.
It is funny how time goes by so slowly when you are young and then it flies by when you are older. Thank you for watching and sharing some of your memories of the 80s even if they weren't the best of times for you.
Can you sometimes cover cigarette loads in one of your videos about things from the 70's 80's, 90's I know they were still around in the 90s but somewhere they stopped making them due to some people getting injured by them? I'd love to hear any info on them. An interesting thing about the old internet, it may have been slow, but it was fun to totally customize it, back than games like solitaire and minesweeper were free on every computer, I miss the personalization of how you could make everything look on your screen and even change the sounds,
I was born in ‘83. The cartoons, comic books, TV shows, my first McDonald’s lunch with my family, walkman, hot wheels, lego, GI Joe, Transformers, Indiana Jones movies.
Michael Jackson, a lot of candy, family dinners.
This video bought back so much memory. People who were born in the 2000s have absolutely no idea how lucky our generation was. We experienced life without the internet.

I remember MTV's first video coming on, it was a big event. The first music vid they showed was "Video Killed the Radio Star" by the Buggles. Not long after that was Jackson's "Thriller" which was also a huge event that we little ones planned for - it was a maybe 15-20 minutes long horror story around the music. At 9 years old his Thriller album was the first one I bought with my own money :)
MTV was huge and then Thriller took it all to a whole other level. It was like a mini movie really. It never gets old watching it either. Thank you for watching and sharing your memories with us!
I remember hearing about MTV at a summer party down on LBI. We didn’t have cable yet because all our lines were underground. It sounded wacky. We all laughed.
My first introduction to MTV was at my Grandmothers Shore house in the late 80's. We never had cable growing up, but my Grandmother had cable at the shore house. The cable box was a long narrow box with numbers on it and you pushed the button in front of the number to change the channel. I pushed #13, which was MTV. On the screen a band was playing, but the band was all skeletons. At some point they turned into people. I remember saying "Mom, check out this skeleton band playing! neat!". The song got stuck in my head. Later that night I would be singing "I will get by....I will get by...I will get byyyyyy...I will survive" walking down the boardwalk. I never knew until I got older that i was singing Touch of Grey by the Grateful Dead. Some time later my friend next door got cable and we would always put on channel 13 and sit and watch music videos after school. We got so excited hearing our favorite song come on and then being able to see the artist and their video for the song, which you have never seen before.

I remember Down In The Valley In Minnesota...these record stores always had that unique smell, black light posters, tickets for sale for upcoming concerts and smoking paraphernalia.
They really were their own cultural spot. Those posters with black lights and a lava lamp were really cool! Thank you for watching and sharing your memories!

The 1980’s was the best decade ever. Movies, music, the neon colors, TV shows like Miami Vice, the excitement of going to the mall with friends or cruising around with friends sure beats burying your face in your phone while you sit alone in mommy’s basement. Totally 80’s forever!

@@RhettyforHistory Thank you ☮️ I was there with John Sebastian and his pregnant girlfriend. A wonderful lady I still to this day speak with, she and I met in the 3rd grade. Perhaps my favorite memory was ?? the entire event, once in a lifetime experience.
80’s social media was to name the band, then lead singer, drummer, and so on after every correct answer among a group of friends.
I remember all of this! We were just married in 1982, so our kids grew up partly in the 80"s! Thanks Rhetty, great memories!

Record stores & record players never became extinct, they still exist everywhere, and Target has a record area in their electronics department. Shopping for vinyl is one of my many, many favorite 80's-era activities to do with my daughters, in addition to roller skating, thrift-store shopping, watching 80's movies, and on & on & on ... I am so thankful that they're into the 80's, just like their mommy, as well as the 70's, AND all the music 🥰 ❤️❤️❤️

They definitely looked a lot older. I am 50 yrs old, and I get mistaken for a lot younger. I think it's genetics, and Rue just wasn't blessed with the "young" gene. It didn't help that most of them had grey or white hair to play up the elderly angle. I used to love that show as a child, but half of the jokes flew right over my head. As an adult, I watch it, and I can appreciate the humor even more.
I wasnt an 80s kid, but was still young enough to enjoy the the decade. I may be an older guy now, but am mighty happy to have lived through the 70s and 80s. Feel sorry for those too young to have done so.
I feel so sad watching these videos but I love them.

I sooo wish I can go back in time. This was an awesome time to live. Music, movies, fashion and food was awesome. This day in age, it’s terrible. I remember watching MTV and VH1 pop up videos with my friends after school. You can go outside till the street lights come on and now you can’t do that. I looked forward to Saturday morning cartoons when I was a kid. I want to go back in time so bad. Thank you for taking me down memory lane 😊

The trend of music was definitely different back then, which steered it in the direction of today.

I graduated in 1978 and got my first places in the early 80's. Freedom! Was my theme. I had my first car decked out with a cool 8 track player, blasted my favorite Boston album. Had my 1st apartment, my first boyfriend, a "boom box", and first jobs. Life was great back then. Wish I could return to that time.

Yes, the 80s were by far my favorite decade. The music, the movies atari/Nintendo cd's, tapes record's BMX bikes, skateboards, everything was so much better, and nobody had a cellphone.
It would be and understatement to say you're pretty good at hitting the mark with these visits down memory lane. But with this video you pretty much hit it out of the park. I appreciate the videos and your work and effort to keep these memories fresh in our minds (at least mine).
John Candy, Chevy Chase, and Bill Murray. Three of my all time favorite actors. Their movies are my go-tos whenever I’m missing my youth.
I remember that pop rock bands always had pins that people decorated vests hats or backpacks with stickers too. Audio recording has improved lots though the MP4 doesnt get static like cassette tapes
In reality the records were better than cassettes as far as quality but they certainly weren't as durable or portable. The digital world definitely took over and I understand why. Thank you for watching julia.

Ten years older than Diet Coke and old enough to be in the Golden Girls 😂. Thank you for the nostalgia, perspective and the John Candy love! He will forever be one of my favorites. Splash was cast so perfectly. The 80s was the last decade before before we were immersed into the www and everyone having mobile phones. Research was done inside libraries for the most part. Magazines were more important. That’s been replaced to a large extent by reading online articles.
Splash was a great movie and John Candy was in a lot of great ones. It was a huge loss when he died. Researching school projects, reports and work required a lot more than it does today. It always makes me both happy and nostalgic that I grew up to own the first Thriller edition, and the 25th anniversary edition, and the 40th anniversary edition... The worst is it did not feel like 15 years passed between those 2 collector editions. Damn, it goes faster and faster.

The attention faded, he went through a divorce, and his life fell apart. Some suggest that the fame, and subsequent loss of fame, did him in. He eventually took his own life at the age of 37.

This is one of the best channels on RUclips I grew up in 74 so I was in 80s kid and everything on this channel I experienced I remember watching The karate kid watching movies from John Candy I remember record getting my first rap record was Eazy-E and then I remember making my mixtapes put him on a Memorex tape I remember VHS to record movies I remember when my mom and dad bought it it was so expensive but they were happy that they were they could afford it it's amazing how time passes I'm now 50 years old and I remember Mr rogers' neighborhood I never watched him but I remember him won't you be my neighbor I remember that part YOU HAVE A GREAT CHANNEL AND I'M AN 80S KID AND I LOOK FORWARD TO WATCHING ALL THIS STUFF I remember Pac-Man my mom and dad bought me an Atari 2600 and I had Pac-Man I had donkey Kong space Invaders they were a bunch of old video games and I remember having to pull out the video game out of the council and blow on it or clean it with some rubbing alcohol with a q-tip slide it back in and it will work you know before I knew it I would look at my parents as a kid and think wow they're getting old and here I am my mom passed away at 56 my dad passed away at 58 within 3 months of each other they were together ever since junior high my dad went off to Vietnam came back had me and my brother we grew up in nice houses good neighborhoods but time does fly before you know it you're 10 years old 15 years old 20 years old and here I am looking at 50 it's amazing I remember watching the program Goonies there's all kinds of things that I remember from the '80s I remember AOL where you had to wait for it to connect and had the free CDs to get hours to go on the internet how we hold a phone today times have definitely changed but I look forward to your next video great channel keep up the good work 4/17/24 Str8Tattedup

I loved fruit roll ups. They were real fruit, though. The ones that came later were/are nasty. Also, John Candy’s character was carrying his dead wife in his trunk in Planes, Trains and Automobiles. 😮

My daughter was watching this with me and she loved fruit roll ups too! She loves 80s music the best and says she was born in the wrong time period.
Cassettes & vinyl records are making a comeback. My daughter (19) has started a collection. We had to get her a record player so she could listen to them. I think she currently has 3 records, of which 2 of them are double albums. They're going for around $30 - $40 these days.
I started the 80s at age 8 and ended at age 18 (Dec 79 to Dec 89). I remember almost everything in this video. The only thing I didn't remember was that diet coke came out in 81. Also I never own a record player and only started in the late 80s going to record stores for cassette tapes.
Prior to Diet Coke Tab was the go to drink if you wanted a coke product. It was their answer to Diet Pepsi which was a product of the mid 60s. Thank you for watching!

@RhettyforHistory HI Rhett. Our T V program only started at 7 pm to 10 pm. One day was in English the next day was Afrikaans, that was the language of the early white settlers from Germany , France & Holland. It is still spoken today, with School & University's. When we lived in the Free State not many people spoke English. Hope that helps. I forgot no children's programs. 😕. It's all changed now. 😊
