I’m thrilled. Never thought he’d last to 20. This is an A+ pick
Fautanu an A+ pick. He will be a RT.
Facts
No, he is better than Jones, he will be the LT
I don't know if any of you guys were happy about this, but when the Bengals picked Mims, I was SO HAPPY. I'm obviously some random. I don't know what's proper. However, I personally wanted a dude that was ready to step in day 1. TROY is that dude. Lets go guys, this OL is almost set now.
I was scared of Mims history of injury, and his lack of playing time
I like it a lot. The pairing of Broderick and Troy is too good to pass up
Have to remember, Troy played LT for a left handed QB, he was not a blind side tackle. I think he will fit in well at RT
Yea that’s a good point.
Fuatanu is built more like a right tackle than jones, and right tackle wasn't jones natural spot his rookie year either this is perfect!
I was searching for your reaction this morning (I live in South Africa) and was bummed that I had to go to work before it came out and I could watch it. So here I am at lunch watching. So keen!
Perfect breakdown. I see him as our RT. Can’t wait to see who else we pick up
Love to see it, hope someone like JPJ falls to our next pick
Fautanu protected a leftie qb in college so right tackle should be slightly more natural cuz of that. Obviously still a change for the feet and everything
We needed a day one tackle. We got one. Not a flashy pick but an unbelievable talent. Without the injury concern that came out idk if this guy makes it out the top 12
The most trusted steelers info comes from alex. Love the vids!
He has the best foot work for a tackle I've seen in years. He never, ever stops moving and is incredibly fluid and loose, yet snaps and gets into position instantly. Stunned he was available at 20.
Here We Go!
Two great draft picks in a row will go a long way in the near future. HERE WE GO STEELERS, HERE WE GO!!!
Since he came in for a visit I'm sure bumping over to RT was a part of the conversation
Love the pick! A lot of the “top” experts had Fautanu as the 11th best player overall and the 3rd best tackle which makes this pick even better. I like the shorter 6’3” frame with long arms giving him the leverage advantage on the taller players. Sounds like a Chuck Noll recipe for an O lineman.
Alex, do you think it matters Michael Penix is a left handed qb, so as a RT here he will still be protecting the same qb side?
Not really a factor to be honest. Maybe somewhat schematically but everything gets flipped as far as footwork and technique when moving from right to the left side. Look at how much K Dotson struggled (and bitched) on the left side with the Steelers and then immediately flourished in LA when they put him back at his college position at right guard. Or even last year when Dan Moore had trouble flipping to the right side but Jones faired better. Fautanu might be able to flip but some players aren't as capable.
A+ pick, wasn’t supposed to be there. Fit? Little blurry, but will make it work. We says we want BPA, then upset when it happens haha
Never been a fan of tall and heavy tackles. They always seem to have injury concerns and technique concerns. That 6’4-6’6, 310-330 range seems ideal for a tackle:
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
YES IT WAS .
Yo Alex, I Absolutely thought Bengals were gonna take Fautanu, I wonder if RT is his natural position, remember his QB at Washington was a leftie so he hasn't been on the QBs blind side much if at all in college! Keep up the great work my man, first box checked! HERE WE GO!
Are favorite PFF boys had Fautanu #3 OT and #14 on their big board. I don’t know if it’s a good or bad things.
I could see them trying him out for a few years at RT then moving him to LG at the end of Suemalo's contract if it's not looking good at RT. Suemalo will be 33 by the time he becomes a FA in 2026
I have no problem with the pick. He gives you lots of flexibility. If they get Frazier or JPJ in the second round it really makes this pick shine.
Would you position Broderick and Troy based on who better at the LT position, or who is better at the RT position (assuming they’re both serviceable at each)? The former could result in a really strong LT and we can design plays to go there or protect the backside rollout, however maybe we look rather to get better overall protection if we go for the latter.
I dont hate the pick but we had the opportunity for a center or DeJean here instead. This pick is a disappointment. C or C minus is the grade
Value...needed...should work well
But Penix bn left handed won’t it b similar that it’s not QB blind side if on Rigjt?
What up AK
Hello man!
Has the attitude, athleticism and savvy to play both sides they have wanted Jones at left so he will be there Troy will compete with Dan Moore at rt tackle and more then likely will be the started by week 3 at worst. ..or maybe they trade Moore and he starts day 1 also a possibility.
A rookie starting? Broderick didn't, Porter either. Let's see how this plays out.
PIT Steelers are creating a OT BOILER...ROOM:
Moore, TroyF, Cook & B Jones
He played LT for a left handed quarterback, so he technically was the right tackle in college
In a sense but that's just a QB blindside thing. I'm talking about physical movements and muscle memory. The way you step, the way you punch, that is all flipped.
Alex, I’m also concerned that we are likely going to put him at RT when he played on the left. He’s a good player, but I hope they aren’t putting the square peg in the round hole. Hopefully things work out for Jones and Fautanu.
All im going to say is everybody who was or is a Mason Rudoulph fan should be happy af because the line the titans have built is NASTY but as a Steelers fan, I'm ecstatic with this fuatanu pick. Brodrick and fuatanu FAFO!
Ohh baby, Cooper Dejean is still there for the taking. I'd say trade up to get him high in the second and address Center a little bit down the road. Maybe get a guy like Nourzad or McCormick.
Yeah, that is exactly what I’m thinking too! I would love to see them trade up for that guy.
Gotta get jpj now man
Really thought he would be a top 12 pick. Hard to not be happy. Injury or Lena are concerning, and I think that’s why he dropped.
Still think Barton would have been a better choice.
The falcons sign Cousins for all the money, then reach for Pennix at 8. Then they wonder why they always suck.
I really won't like the whole narrative of versatility of Linemen. It reeks of jack of all trades but master of none? While passing on Quinyon Mitchell who projects as an elite. Corner? I'm not a fan of this choice and the notion of the supposed value for the pick comes across as idle chatter and utter nonsense to me. Fisher from Notre Dame is still available as well as other tackles. Mitchell projects to be special. Why pass him up? Philly sure didn't waste any time in scooping him up. This feels like Jarvis Jones all over again I grasp the thought process but vehemently disagree with the choice. Just my two cents.
And how are you even bring up Jerry rice when I'm talking about an elite player on defense Mitchell projects as the best shutdown corner in the draft. You've got the cement in the wrong place.
Really thought they would go Mitchell. Would have been killer having Mitchell across from Joey Porter Jr. Would had the best defensive backfield in the league! But the O line is definitely the biggest priority. Guess you gotta go head over heart here!
A very good pick but I'm very disappointed that they passed up Quinyon Mitchell. Sigh. 😢
@@selaxlife7621 apples to oranges you don't get it. There were tackles with comparable evaluations available. Mitchell was evaluated as best in class. Stick that in cement.
Me too! To have the best CB in the draft fall to you at 20!!! Would have been a killer, shutdown backfield!
@@selaxlife7621Don't disagree with you. Just wish we could have gotten Mitchell. As we watch his career unfold we will always remember he could have been a Steeler!
I I'm not high on the pick the Steelers keep drafting players to be a utility Swiss army knife instead of drafting players that played their position their whole careers in college their player development is horrendous I'm sick of seeing the Steelers keep switching players around me out of position on both sides of the ball.
The guy played left tackle for a left handed QB (so he’s positionally a RT) and will play RT in the NFL, I don’t know what you’re mad about
@dmeads5663 I keep hearing people say that. But guys running down your left side, and the footwork needed, is different. That's what he means.
They should just leave him at LT
He played for a left handed QB so his natural position is RT
@@dmeads5663 I don't understand that logic when the physical movements are different for a LT and RT.
Try writing your name with your nondominant hand and see if it makes a difference
@@nikkichuck7774 exactly
Left tackle/ right tackle... If he's asked to play right, blah, blah.....the young man fits the bill for a tackle. He plays angry, he's tenacious. If he's asked to play right tackle for several million dollars he'll adapt or he'll sell slushies at Kennywood....STOP PAMPEREING MILLIONAIRES
They had no choice
What do you mean? No better player available considering their needs?
Bro is so negative
I was robbed! It’s all about politics and who you know! Sure, I never played football at any official level and sure, I’m old enough to be his grandfather and sure, nobody’s ever heard of me but I earned my shot to play for the Pittsburgh Steelers and I refuse to be denied!
Turn the machines back on! I want to be their first round pick! Turn the machines back on!
Meds now
This is by far the worst draft in 20 years 😢
Wanted Caleb Williams huh?
Aha and why? U just a hater thats why...
MIMS is a boom or bust type player
Not a sexy pick, but he's a guy you put at a position and then don't worry about that position for a decade.
