Awesome build! Narration was well worth paying attention. I think it looks great, like a hard candy in the sun. Appreciate your putting the build recipe up there as well. Crawl on!
Thanks! I was psyched they fit. I run Torques with Trench Kings on it now. I love this truck. Just need to get the CV issue on the Super 8s dealt with.
@@VermontScaleCustoms I recommend the EXO u joint style CVDs. I’m swapping them slowly to most all my axles. They can get 55degrees, so better than S8s and MeUs even. Just leave out the outer axle bearings.
I just grabbed a set of the new heavy duty ones they released last week. Still looking at end of May for DLux. I went with some Rampcrab ones a few weeks ago that broke before they hit the ground. Snapped the Universal just testing it on the stand!
Just my $.02.. Flip the rear lower links so the bend is near the skid. Will increase your break over angle that little extra bit. Seems when they touch currently, it’s just behind the skid. The 68s negate the need for extra clearance at the axle. Sweet vid. 😃
I don't know, the links on all of mine are not designed to mount that way. The lowers would run right smack into the uppers if they were even able to move in that position. That's not just on this crawler, that's on everything. A big rule of thumb is that, no matter what, you want as much link clearance all the way back to the axle as possible. That's your break over advantage. That's how you hook the edges. Mounting them the other way would cause a decrease in clearance at the breakover contact point, I'm afraid.
That's too bad, man. I love 'em. I thought about trying anti-foams in these but I like how the soft foams are running just fine. If someone wants to send me a set to try and convince me I should switch, I'd be more than happy to give them a try for a day or two. But, AFIAC, these are some great tires. Perfect for this build.
We had a Chevy 2500 crew cab with 4" lift on 35" for a Trail Crew truck at Stowe. We put that thing through some shit. I love hearing that flex sound. It's why I like the TF2 so much. If you let that rig get a little surface-crusty, it's the coolest thing to listen to in video.
I run just the main leaf all the way around, Teraflex Shackles and Z-Boxes, and I just switched to coil-over shocks. There's a ton of stuff that opens up a bunch of flex in the TF2. They creak all day long after you get them loosened up.
LUCKY! That year/color was my exact influence for this. I had a friend in Burlington, VT that had one. I myself had an 84 4Runner / HiLux Surf in the early 90's. Really wish I had kept that truck.
Thank you for the info and video, i appreciate the narration. I've been really really debating hard on this one... That poor breakover performance, and the ridiculously long overhang in the rear, really annoy me. I think the front links are too long, but I'm not sure if that can be changed much? Again, thank you!
Despite the shortcomings on breakover performance, it brings everything else to the table. It's a matter of learning how to skid in on that rear bumper - or just not use the X-Factor cage - and run a short rear end. The chassis rails still clock in very close to stock length. It's the bumper and rear hinge system that add so much. Granted, the wheelbase is long AF but that's just to match the bumper/body length. You can run whatever links you want on this. I don't know why you would, but you can. If you had higher clearance Hard Park links, you could build a custom setup for your personal crawling tastes; the world is your oyster.
Thanks. It's a sick truck. One of my top 5. All the details are right in the description. This is also from very early this year so this truck has changed a bunch. Now running LGRP MR24 gearbox (no OD) and LGRP Trench Kings on Torque beadlocks. Check out some of the newer videos!
This is the Micro Komodo on an MR24 1:1 ratio gearbox. 30A Lizard Pro ESC Hard Park makes a 1.5/1 and LGRP does a 2/1 I think. If you want more than stock Micro Komodo speed, 3s/4s with either of those will spice things up a lot. I run 2s in this because I like to poke along with just crawling. The problem you might run into is being sure you can fit the HP gearbox in the Comp24 skid. I hear it's tricky unless you own a dremel.
@@VermontScaleCustoms got it that’s the motor I was aiming for with a 2s/3s pack to be able hoonigan around and crawl. Sadly No longer going with the LGRP Comp Frame because it’s sold out , which puts me between a Park Hard Goblin XL Kit or Furitek Grasshopper. I just order LGRP X-Factory Body to install after my build with Super 8 Axles. But now I’m wondering can I use LGRP ski plate /Links with Goblin Xl Kit even if it’s not LGRP comp kit ? If that make sense I’m new to RC this will be my 1st build but 2nd RC which my 1st one is a Arrma Senton
Take a look at the Furitek / Hobby Plus CR18 Pro with brushless. That's basically their answer to the LGRP Comp24. I don't have any experience trying to run Little Guy skids or chassis parts with other non-LGRP stuff. I couldn't really say. Personally, I would hold out for the comp frame. It's the best damn thing you've ever seen. I really kind of hope they come out with something new soon. They're due for a sweet new release.
Stock ration with steel gears. Hadn't gotten the MR24 yet. I don't think it was out yet. Released about two weeks after this build. That's what I run now. Still with stock ratio and no front OD.
Not in these, no. I like how quickly they drop out but how smooth they stay through the full travel. I added the X-Factor cage and they make even more sense now. I ran the preload all the way up with SCX24 factory coils and it provides a tiny bit of bump coil resistance right when the shock is about to bottom out. It's noice. Combined with the oil, it seems to work pretty well.

Thank you! This truck is such a top notch rig. Probably the only thing I'd do differently would be to put Super 8's on it.
Sure, if they're ever in stock! @@VermontScaleCustoms
I keep waiting for those or the Hard Park axles due to come out soon.
Like the HP stickers on the rims. Nice touch! I’m in love with this comp frame kit as well.

Sick build man! I really like that chassis. Definitely no expenses spared! 🤙
It's got great capability, too. I've been running inside and it blows me away how good it actually is. Right up there with the other comp rigs.
I just cannot seem to get them 68 to do that good man they have the flub RC inserts in them also

@10:00 😂 that creaking sound is perfectly 1/1! Exactly how my FJ sounds lumbering on trails.

I have a 99 yota that color purple!
Good call mate, I’ll probably have a similar looking kit someday.

@@VermontScaleCustomsexcellent, thank you for the great reply, much appreciated.
Get Liquid mask - Ive used it in the past to paint Lexan Sedans /10th scale. brush in the liquid, cut with a sharp blade and then paint.
Thanks for the tip. I'll have to try it on the next one. This kit comes with a mask set and I managed to save them for a future repaint. ;)
What is your drivetrain setup , are you running underdrive or overdrive gears in the axles , love the setup and would like to know what all you did

So cool!!!

What wt oil you using in your carismas?

Hard Park Carbon Fiber "Tuner" wheels with brass inners.
