I have a new bandsaw, a Laguna 14/12 (love it!!!) and I take Chestnut Products Endseal for a test drive (love it too!!!) and finally try out my 3M Versaflo that has been hanging around for a few months waiting for me to put it on (love it as well...and it came in very handy for this video!!!)

Since I started making these videos in 2017, I have been lucky enough to receive the support of some manufacturers with materials to use in my videos. Since May 2018, Chestnut Products have provided me with stains, an iridescent paints sample set, lacquers and waxes. I'd like to thank them for their kind and generous support. Martin Saban-Smith has provided me with a sample set of Intrinisic Colours.
All other products and tools, unless where indicated, have been bought from suppliers at retail prices. Products mentioned in my videos are for information purposes so that viewers know what I have used.

    Hello my friend,
A nice band saw machine. I have the same one in a large size. Its only brand is Woodfast. But Laguna is exactly the same as the brand. All systems components look the same. They made an amazing copy. And I've been using it for a long time. Dude, you protect the monitors in your workshop well from dust. I couldn't do this protection. and I took the monitor out of the workshop :-) Safety is a must. For safety, you look like an astronaut with your helmet :-) Thinned designs are always a risk. Thank you for sharing your experiences. Everything you get your heart desires. See you later. Big greetings.

You'll enjoy that bandsaw, a very versatile machine. I'd send over a bunch of wood for you to resaw, but you'd probably put paint all over it, so I'll save the shipping fees.
I once got a cherry log from a friend. I cut it to length at his place, put it in my van and drove 45 minutes home. My van smelled wonderful for a few days. It is a joy to turn.
Too bad about the bowl, but you got to make some wonderful shavings, and some days that's enough.

Wow, triple jump! I have the 14-12 also. Now very well used by me. I did switch to the Carter guides after the little white guide block kept falling out. Yours has some newer features like the fast stop and moving blade guard. Now I also have a used 18” Laguna, but need to get a circuit wired for it. Have fun with it! Magnet glued to the push stick will allow you to keep it on the upper door where it will be very handy. Broken bowl = wall sconce.

The new saw looks lovely - way too big and expensive for me but it looks like it'll do the job nicely! Having all that capacity will be very useful. You could kintsugi the exploded piece and it'd look great. Woud you consider doing a workshop tour video? Im always interested in seeing people's setups, particularly in smaller spaces (my own is a tiny 8'x7' that i built myself). :)

Cherry IS a lovely wood. You’re doing exactly what I do with cherry logs. Cut them down to size and eliminate the flaws then seal with end-grain sealer. With just a little bit of moisture still in the wood it smells so good when turning and sanding. Thanks for sharing with us.

I have the same saw, had for about 8 years now. I will say I have upgraded the guides to the carter ones, didn't like the sparks from the ceramic ones. Also here in states I do not think that blade holding thingy comes on the saws here, but I will investigate as to if the newer ones do. And the fast stopping well I don't think that feature is here either. I would recommend you get a 3/8" or 1/2" for cutting the wet wood. Carter sell one called a greenwood blade works lovely. Save that 5/8" for resawing. making circles with it isn't wise theres a chance it could bind up and well lets just say not good things happen. Enjoy the new toy. Oh that noise sounded to me like the blade may be rubbing on the guides, check that it isn't you can you the dollar bill trick for setting the guides with the blade. Cheers!!!

Cheers, Dara! The cooling fan was hitting the motor cover - all sorted now! I'm keeping the blanks square but thanks for the advice about cutting curves with a smaller blade. I love the saw!

I normally date time it was cut and sealed. I have been using tightbond(III) wood glue. And mostly working great. But the internal wind stressed in tree for getting released after processing and sealing still letting some inherent stresses free. Unless you are there when they felled the wood, sometimes it's still a mixed bag. So sealing and dating as shortly after felled is mostly the best. And even though I don't have a temp and moisture control shop(garage) it's out of rain and sealed endgrain. But try to leave it in log form. And try to follow the rule told to me years ago.... 1 yr per inch of overall radius of the cut piece. Plus one year. As a rule of thumb. And leaving the bark on if possible. Normally if felled in late fall the bark will stay for as long as it drying. But, if the tree was cut in late spring or summer.... some will loose there bark throughout the drying over the years. Thanks for sharing your experience and thoughts! Cheers

Cheers, Jude - the weighing is a good method. I've tried pva glue as a seal but not had great results with it. I now have a bottle of Chestnut Products Endseal - it works very well in comparison. I'm not sure how readily available it is in the US but it sounds like it's very similar to Anchorseal.
