That 1792 Full Proof is the bomb! It's affordable even at around $60. That Old Foster Single Barrel Cask Strength is excellent also! At the $100 price point, it is somewhat of a special occasion offering for me. I wish that both of these were more available in our area. It was nice to find them in the last holiday season. Luckily, there is still enough for a little taste when Easter arrives! Great show as always! Cheers!
1792 full proof is really good. Ive never seen one more than $50. Most often see them for 45. Cant go wrong w those. Rebel cask strength store picks are usually 50-55 and always amazing. They are one of if not the best value if bourbon. Old forester picks, super hit or miss. Ive had 6 of them, they are drink beyond their proof, and i pretty much only drink cask strength/high proof whiskey. Some of them are just heat with barely any flavor, some are hot with decent flavor, some are hot with loads of flavor. Typically see them for 80-100, usually 90ish. But ill never buy another one wo being able to sample it first because they are just so hit or miss. Warehouses K, G, H, are usually the better ones, L and I can be more iffy. When the old forester picks are good, they are damn good, but when they arent, they are pretty disappointing. They are by far the most hit or miss picks ive ever bought or even tasted.
I will have to give 1792 Full Proof store pick a second chance. I got a pick from the PA stores and really did not enjoy it - cocktails, ice, neat. I ended up giving the bottle away. But the BT store picks - totally agree, they are fun, easy sippers, with a classic profile.
1792 FP is really good. Knob Creek Single Barrel Reserve at 9 yrs & 120 proof for $43.98 at Walmart here in NE… I can’t find a better value. Even the Select store picks are an amazing value at $55 to $65 for a 120 proof 9+ yr bourbon. Jim Beam making up for the ridiculous price of bourbon these days… even for their Bookers and Little Book prices. 🤮
That bottle is $68 here ($70 for picks)... and it's STILL a good deal. That's SMOKING at $44... It'd beat out Rare Breed as the best value sipper at that price.
I’ve been able to buy several bottles of buffalo trace store pics from different stores in the last couple months and several for friends. It is a steal of a deal for $26. We will look back in five years. And think how amazing it is to buy those for so cheap. They are so good and amazing.
Appreciate the shoutout. Just about the time I try to zoom in to see the 'selected by' panel on the bottle, Josh gives the shout out. Erin with a little shade but I get it and respect it. Back at you. Keep up the great work.
I really love the JD Barrel Proof Single Barrels. Definitely a buy all day for me. I finished my Calumet 16 in the fall and haven't rebought it. It was really good but my budget doesn't allow for this one to be a rebuy.
I will always keep a 1792 full proof, bottled in bond single barrel(store pick) and small batch in my bar. Also a JD Single Barrel/Barrel Proof is always a rebuy.
Buffalo Trace is one of my favorites, hard to get, don't care if it's a store pick, I grab it when available. I just got on the Green River train, the Full Proof is my favorite bourbon right now, and the Rye is great. The regular bourbon is on sale at Binny's, $27.99, one of my next purchases.
"Peace out, Brussel Sprout!" LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL Other than not being able to get my hands on a Four Gate Kelvin Collab. release, I have or have had all of the others, and man oh man, are they all hitters and I hope I will always be able to have them on the bar--proof, age, flavor profile, and price, they are all winners.
One of my local stores who does 1 ounce tasting pours while you shop finally had Jack Daniels single barrel, barrel proof in the cabinet for sampling today and I couldn’t resist. Ended up loving it, even though I was skeptical with the high proof point. Definitely the highest proof I’ve ever had but it was surprisingly friendly with a flavor explosion on your tongue! Also picked up an Old Forester 1920 after hearing all the hype and can confidently say I prefer the JD over the OF.
I agree 1000% with the JD BP Rye. I drank one and have purchased 5 others! All different barrels! I buy one everytime i see one i don't have. Bottle of the year, imo
Different bottles come and go through my collection and I've had some really nice ones, but BT and 1792 are staples. I always have a bottle of each and are my go-to's when I'm just ready for a little pour. Nice review, you two. Good info. Thank you.
Guaranteed Rebuys for me right now: JDSBBP Rye... I can't get over this bottle. Rare Breed... best easy to find bottle in existence. That's it for now. Plenty of other bottles I like enough to rebuy... but those are my stockpile just in case bottles.
Love the buffalo trace store picks. They are so wildly different than the basic release. I have 3 of them, i went back to back with all 3 and the basic release last night, and they are all different. Ill never buy a basic buffalo trace, but i will continue to buy store picks. Same with eagle rare. Im actually not a huge fan of the basic, ill never buy one, but i will buy the store picks, i also have 3 of those, and they're all very different
I know you guys don't add goofy audio/video clips or memes to your videos but there is a great "REBUY!" clip from Michael Shannon in the movie Premium Rush (at 22m:30s).
That fourgate is a bottle I see around and I just haven't been able to buy it yet due to the price. I heard it's good from every review but that is a lot of money 😆. It seems I'll stay on the fence until it's sold out 🤣. Thanks for the video!
"I'll stay on the fence until it's sold out" is absolutely excellent strategy in our book and an approach we've employed more often than you'd think. 😂 Cheers!
1:05 It's gamut. A gambit is a chess tactic, while a gamut is a range of things - for instance, "The auction ran the gamut from kitsch to fine art." The word is far older than computer monitors. 🙂 9:17 The JD SBBP is fantastic. I had a glass last night; mine's 128.2 proof. As for whether it's bourbon, I offer a couple of facts: 1. George Dickel bourbon is the exact same juice as George Dickel Tennessee whiskey, and goes through the exact same Lincoln County process as Dickel Tennessee whisky, but it's still bourbon; and 2) George Pritchard Tennessee whiskey doesn't use the Lincoln County process but it's still Tennessee whisky. 11:55 Sorry, Josh - hook 'em Horns! 🤠⭐🐂
I have a Calumet 15 that is almost done. I would rebuy that or maybe go to the Calumet 16 if the price is right. the nice part of these offerings is that around me, you can get lucky and find one at below msrp.
Old forester picks are so hit or miss. I have 4, my brother has 2, we love high proof, but these all drink hot. Some are just hot with barely any flavor, some are hot with loads of great flavor. Between the 6, they are all completely different. The warehouse they come from definitely has an impact on them. The K warehouse ones are usually really good, H and G are typically always good. I and L are hit or miss. Not sure if theirs other warehouses, but these are the ones ive had, and from what i hear from many others, the consensus seems to be the same as my experience with them
I haven't had a BT pick yet but I've had couple regular BTs, one I enjoyed and one I didn't. Similar for ER, two I didn't enjoy, one that I did enjoy. The batch variance seems to be high for the regular BT products for me.
Not one bye bye bye I'm a no-go on Calumet I had the 15 and it was just eehh for me if I'd give it a value it would be a 40 at best. Certainly not what they go for which in Ohio it's 130ish. Nice bottles I'm still trying to get a OF SBBP. Enjoy!!
I've had one store pick of BT and did not like it. Not sure if I would chance another. Just bought my first Green River and it's good. Definitely a rebuy. JD SiBBP is an absolute rebuy. Buffalo Trace is a good rebuy at MSRP but I rarely see it. If I came across a barrel pick for $30 - $35 I'd definitively grab it. 1792 full proof is a rebuy, 100%! The JD is a bye bye for me, tried it just didn't care for it. Pappy 23...has anyone given that stuff a good review? Peace out brussel sprout(?) 😂
Good Show all...Question Josh, I noticed your wearing a different watch on the 7 Bourbons again. What watch do you usually wear on channel, reason i ask is I am a watch guy myself and its becoming or has become a thing of past for men to wear watches. I always wear a watch ( left wrist) because without one it seems weird. The other piece looks like a Tudor or Tag. Men have become too comfortable telling time with IPhone.
Right there with you! I've tried to tell my daughter never to trust a man without a watch on his wrist. 😂 This is a Casio G-Shock DW5600MS-1 as a nod to G-Shocks getting me into watches more hardcore in the 90s during high school. Usually I have on a 114270 Explorer (circa 2001) or 14060M Submariner (circa 2008) as they are both massively sentimental pieces and steal most of my wrist time. Cheers and thanks for the watch talk!
I hear you but that’s not the case with us. There’s a boatload of bottles we’ve finished that we’d never rebuy again and we’ve talked about them in depth in past Bye Bye or Rebuy videos in the back catalog.
Josh, Do you think that the Buffalo Trace store picks, in general, *taste better* than the standard Eagle Rares? And what about the Taylors? Can't find 'em by me but heard they might be a bit more spicy than the other expressions from the distillery. Have you noticed a bit extra spiciness with them?
Better than? It's so subjective that it's difficult to say. It's definitely a lot of fun to taste the single barrel variance IMO. Some are more spice-driven, some are more relaxed, some are more sweet, some more oaky, and others still more funky. The variation is part of the appeal to me, but I could see how it wouldn't be everyone's thing if they wanted consistency (and in that case I'd take Eagle Rare 10 out of 10 times).
Am I the only one who does not care for Buffalo Trace? It’s allocated in Va, where I live. I have several mid shelf bottles that I would take over BT any day.
I have a 1792 full proof not a store pick and it’s not good. It’s all ethanol burn. Now a neighbor had a store pick and it was excellent, so the moral of the story is I don’t know.
If you've had those handful of bourbons, the best advice would be to simply try as many things as you can. That'll help you zero in on what your palate likes best. Michter's makes great whiskey and all their offerings lean pretty sweet, so heading down that road would be a good bet (Buffalo Trace, Barton 1792, MGP, and Brown Forman brands like Old Forester, Jack Daniel's, and Woodford).
Thanks for watching and commenting! Without knowing what preferences you currently have, it's hard to make a blanket recommendations, but in the beginning we do urge folks to stick the the major distilleries to try to get an idea of what you like. Elijah Craig Small Batch, Buffalo Trace, 1792 Small Batch, Four Roses Small Batch, Knob Creek 9 Year, and Wild Turkey 101 are all must trys to see what appeals to your palate the most.
Honestly, Josh, with the way prices are going (what is the MSRP of OF 1924?), Calumet is starting to look more reasonable to me, especially given the age statements...............
Calumet 16 is good stuff, but I am not sure it's worth the money. There are so many good $80-$100 bottles I could buy. I need to check out Green River I have heard a lot of good things. I agree with Erin about Alabama. War Eagle.
Was getting ready to heart this comment until the War Eagle comment. 😆 And don’t let Erin fool you… she’s an Ohio State fan! 😂 Cheers and thanks for watching Jack!
Suddenly we got flooded with 1792 Full Proof store picks here in Wisconsin. Hadn't seen one in years, suddenly I saw it at stores in Madison and Waupun and even at a Total Wine.
1792 gets terrible distribution here so we rarely see it. The rest are relatively okay if you have your finger on the pulse of local stores. It definitely requires being plugged in and paying attention though…or a whole lot of luck to be in the right place at the right time.
Neither of us can endorsed this comment but we still appreciate you watching. 😆 Big congrats on the national championship BTW. The best team did win it this year.
@stuffandwhiskey thanks SO much guys! Who's her team btw? Sidenote, it sure felt good to end Saban. I've had a healthy distaste for him dating way back to his assistant coaching days with Michigan State.

I think the Calumet 15 is better than the 16. Better balanced. 16 is just pure oak.

What's good bourbon to start with that is under 30 dollars thanks for the great videos
I blinded my BT store pick vs the regular shelf product. The regular BT won!
I can believe it. Some of the picks get a bit funky and off-profile.
Are you buying Green River bourbon for 30 over Russell's 10 at 40? Yes. Yes i am.
Same. Green River has that pizzaz.
WHISKEY CHEERS 🍻
My local store has a 1792 full proof pick… for NINETY dollars… no thanks it can’t be that good
Whoa! Yeah it’s usually $55-60 in most markets. That’s wild!
@@stuffandwhiskey Louisville whiskey market for you. Living in KY has its pros and cons
What about Old Forester 1910
Solid bottle. We tend to keep one around.
Great video 👍👍🥃
Value $$ is a definite factor for me. But even if you're $25 and suck..it's a no🤣👎👎
The bourbon scene has gotten a bit too crazy for me price wise. I am heading back to almost exclusively scotch for the next year or so.
You know things are out of hand price-wise when we’re gravitating to Scotch for a financial reprieve. 😆
@@stuffandwhiskey so true! I love Smokey scotch. Ardbeg and Scarabus are in the mid $40s
If the Buffalo Trace is a store pick (single barrel), shouldn't it (could it?) have an age statement?
Not one they'd put on the label, but sometimes they will tell you if you ask. Most are 8-9 years old for Buffalo Trace picks. Great question!
Roll Tide ❤just got you a 👍🏾
Run the Gambit was a netflix series with a hot chick playing Chess. Gamut.
When you’re right but then “correct” yourself into being wrong. That’s a very me thing to do. 🤦🏻♂️😂

In the past 3 years, I haven't found either of the 1792 full proof, Buffalo Trace, or Old Forester store picks. What stores do you find these at?
Suddenly we got flooded with 1792 Full Proof store picks here in Wisconsin. Hadn't seen one in years, suddenly I saw it at stores in Madison and Waupun and even at a Total Wine.
I am getting in my car as we speak...:)
@@robinsni
1792 gets terrible distribution here so we rarely see it. The rest are relatively okay if you have your finger on the pulse of local stores. It definitely requires being plugged in and paying attention though…or a whole lot of luck to be in the right place at the right time.
Alabama, sorry about that. Go BLUE!!! 🟡🔵
Voice of an Angel LOL
You can pick your bottle and you can pick your friends, but you cant pick your friends bottle.
