Behind the scenes at my family's book store

- Want to see a real estate document from the 14th century? How about a handwritten letter from George Washington or Abner Doubleday's original marriage certificate or a book so big and heavy that I couldn't even open it?
Take a break from Amazon and Walmart and check out my family's book store -- a VERY special place with countless books and other unusual treasures, including lots of baseball stuff. My grandfather started the business in 1925. It's called The Argosy, and it's the oldest independent book store in New York City.
The store is open Monday through Friday from 10am to 6pm, and in the colder months, it's also open on Saturday from 10am to 5pm. Check them out online (and thanks for watching):

Zack may just have the most unique and amazing life I've ever seen
That is one of the nicest compliments I've ever received. Thank you.
Zack Hample is there by chance a signed 1927 Yankees Murderers Row ball!?!? 😮 that has been the holy grail tht I've wanted in my collection since I was first told what & who Murderers Row was & tht balls exist still with their signatures!
Ethan Cowles I agree this video is absolutely amazing & U can deff tell Zack is proud of his family & the store!! I'd spend a week in their & still be happy I love history & old documents especially the old Americana section!!! Just the old creeky floorboards & the old book smell has to be amazing in their!!!
No, that's something we don't have.
him zack
Last of a dying breed. What an awesome store !!! Thank you for sharing Zack.
That Jefferson story is nuts! How he got every piece together is amazing! That guy literally brought the history back from the dead!
Six floors of books , I would never leave!! 😂😂
Such a wonderful visit to a bookstore I most likely will never get to visit. I love that a young man borne into the trade is curious enough to film the store his heritage had started. Wonderful! Thank you soo much.
I love this place. I remember first walking in and finding my way downstairs. This store is magical.
You have got to be the most interesting man in the world. Historic baseball collector, book writer, traveler, son of the the coolest owners of the most amazing bookstore that I have ever seen in my life, etc. You should be super proud of yourself, Zack!
Jeez, I am truly flattered almost to the point of being embarrassed . . . but really, thank you so much!
+Zack Hample he's right, you're amazing zack! Keep the videos coming.
Amazing devoted beautiful unique family! You guys are pure love and passion! Love the 3 sisters♥️♥️♥️
this can be a great movie!
about a family running an amazing book store
Wow! This book store has been added to my bucket list.. I WILL go there and spend a day before I die. You have a very unique life.
Loved this video and the insight into your families life. I could spend hours looking around and am absolutely in awe of all the maps. So cool.
Zack, I love your enthusiasm and deep interest in everything you do. Very inspiring. Can't wait to see more! Glad to have discovered this channel today.
This is what is so great about RUclips: highlighting treasures, and in my case reminding me of what I have been missing. I’m embarrassed to say, and I speak as a lover of books with what I would call is a decent book collection, that I’ve been to NY nearly 20 times and visited Argosy books once.
It is my wish and on my bucket list to bring my son and wife to the argosy the greatest book shop in the world.THANKS TO ALL THE STAFF FOR SHARING THIS WONDER OF BOOKS
That was cool! You and your family are truly blessed.
Awesome and otherworldly!
This has to be the most amazing store ever! It would spend all day there, happily perusing for that awesome find! Must get to NYC now!
Wow that's beautiful. I can only imagine all the cool art in those old books.. World war history.. and so on. I will DEFINITELY stop by when I'm in New York. You must have a blast hanging out there after it closes down just browsing through history and reading material. Not to mention the smell of those old books is like nothing else.
Awww this is so cool 👌 I like your family's style. Best of luck and love for the store!
Loved visiting this place! I hope that I can return eventually.
Thanks for showing all this. I enjoyed it.
Breathtaking
great video! what a lovely store and family. I'll definitely be visiting soon!
Lovely, interesting, amazing bookstore, this must be the best organized with that diverse variety I have ever seen. Admire your family's dedication to it, I hope you can continue to attract book lovers from around the world, seems like a very good way to spend half a day of browsing.
this is so cool. what a life this guy has
Awesome! Now THAT'S a bookstore! Thanks for the vid!
Wow, I would give anything just to be able to walk thru this bookstore. I am in awe , amazing.
Wow!! I really enjoy this video. Next time I go to New York I will make sure to visit this awesome and magical place!! Blessings
When someone tells me to go to my happy place, never a beach & always an old library or bookstore. I grew up in our county library. I am almost 51 & NOTHING makes me happier then the smell of old literature; the sight of old maps w/ places that no longer exist, hearing the spine cracking open; touching the old paper between my fingers. A sensory paradise! ❤
Wonderful independent books stores.
Zack, this is hands down your most unappreciated video. So cool man!
Wow! My collections seem very tiny now. Great stuff!! Thanks for sharing. I will have to visit the store (museum?) one day.
THAT IS SO COOL ZACK!!!!!!!
Wow.. I think I’d never leave! Well, not until I’d looked at every single item in there. What an amazing place. My version of heaven.
I love baseball and books if I go to NYC I’m going there!!!!
This place is absolutely amazing.
It's my dream to go to New York and see this amazing book store and maybe buy a map print or a rare book or something!
This makes me want to buy a plane ticket just to go to the book store. Crazy awesome video. You have a great family Zack, keep it up. Much support your way!
That's so nice of you. I appreciate it.

That's the coolest bookstore I've ever seen! By the way, I've been loving your offseason content, Zack! So excited for the upcoming season!

First time watching this: Totally Incredible
This place is awesome!
I am so glad this was in my recommended
Greetings from The Netherlands! Great video again! Too bad I missed a visit to this hidden gem; it's on my bucket list. Keep up the good work!
LOL, around 13m05s the lady in the back suddenly looks up when Zack says he has the oldest item of this store in his hand...
I have to visit this gem. My God, it's so beautiful.
Zack, I love your channel, I love baseball, I love New York City and I love books. I usually frequent The Strand but I'll have to give your family's store a visit!
I know this comment is a few years late into the game as I have only found your videos two years ago in 2020 as I have said before- I not only love baseball, but I love history, bookstores and over the years of my life from when I was young I would not only get lost in bookstores for hours, but libraries too as well. I love books and still collect books- Argosy has been added to my bucket list of places I want to visit someday.... I saw the video on my side of stuff to see- and I HAD to do it- because I love books, history, Americana and also artifacts that go back centuries.
Too bad people can't smell the place through RUclips. My mom loved this video, I gotta get her in there. Her answer to "are they allowed to have beards now?": Let's show the map woman a picture of the 2013 Red Sox!
Ha, for real. Let's show the YANKEES that photo while we're at it.
More like a Library. Awesome.!
Whoa... that Jefferson letter story is AMAZING.
Wordless. This is amazing. Now, I'm pretty sure that I know the reason, of, why you are such person. Just amazing
Aw, thanks.
This store seems so cool!!!
Great vid......If you guys ever expend to Los Angeles, would like to apply for a job at that bookstore, very overwhelming just seeing all those beautiful books.

Thanks. If you'll excuse me, I have to go blush.
Amazing. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
When I was in NY a few Thanksgivings ago I stopped in but only had time for the first floor. I'll have to get there again and see the rest.
I strongly suggested my mom visit when she was there last fall. She's a big collector of some first editions. She ran out of time but I told her she should make another trip and put this on the top of her list.
Ahh. Definitely come back and send your mom in too.
Zack I loved this video and how interesting it was... I'm putting that store on my bucket list
Awesome. I hope you make it.
The packed bookshelves reminds me of working in Southern Music Company.
"One of the biggest challenges is getting it all cataloged and on the internet." Yep. We went through that with the sheet music at SMC. I don't think they ever did get it all cataloged. I wish you all the best in that endeavor.
Pretty cool stuff. half museum half bookstore
Zach, has any of your families old documents ever ended up at a Presidential Library or the Smithsonian? This was perhaps the most interesting videos that you've ever made. And I mean that as no disrespect to you. Thank You for sharing and keep posting your entertaining videos!
I love it!!!!! Incredible store
Thanks!
Awesome stuff, Zack. Will have to stop by the store sometime!
Thanks!
Wonderful bookstore :)
Interesting video Zack, a lot of cool stuff in there for sure!
Thanks!
Zack, you are so lucky to do such cool stuff. Next time I'm in NYC, I'll have to stop by.
Thanks, that's nice of you to say. I hope you do get to visit the store someday.
Now I see how you can afford to just travel around to ballparks. Awesome bookstore, must be amazing history in that place.
Pretty awesome!
I’m very impressed
Hey Zack! Another amazing video! When i'll go back to New York I will visit this for sure!
Thanks! Hope you make it.
I really enjoyed this video
Glad to hear that.
That is a very cool, classic bookstore. Imagine some of the stuff you could find in there...
Thanks. I'm always discovering unbelievable stuff.
Pretty cool stuff
I hope you have a nice day and the book store in 100 times better then every book store I ever seen in my life 😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮
