I needed this pod today. Thrilling win for the Celtics and everyone on ESPN and FS1 were basically saying "the Celtics are trash". You can tell the national media does not like them at this point, Tatum isn't "in your face" enough with stupid quotes like ANT, etc. Windhorst actually said "the Celtics are really starting to annoy me" to justify him rooting against them on the Hoop Collective today. Even within Celtics fandom, it's at the point that JB and JT cannot miss a shot or make one turnover. Two bad possessions in a row and I've got people texting me "I hope they trade Tatum". True fans, save those receipts!!!! All these shows and people better pray that the Celtics lose because if they win we'll never let anyone forget about it for decades. First Things First even said "The Celtics are nowhere near as good as the metrics would suggest" Basically they said ignore the data, they are trash.
Never apologize for how your favorite team wins in the playoffs. We all see how the media flip flops from game to game. I doubt the press would criticize Indiana if they had beaten Boston in the same manner. I rather be up 1-0 with a chance to go up 2-0 compared to last season when the Celtics coughed up game 1 and game 2 at home to Miami.

Watched the end of the Mavs Twolves game tonight. Mavs squeaked by with 3 pt win. Mavs trailed at times. TNT was glazing "Fantastic win by Luka and the Mavs" blah blah blah. If Celts squeaked by the media would have said "Pacers giving Cs a good run, they almost won" blah blah blah. They don't call the Cs win Fantastic. Bias is unbelievable. 🤷♀️

Believe it or not im more worried about dallas than minny. Luka and kyrie have the potential to absolutely break any defense and series. Their ability to take and make tough shots and clutch factor worries me. Let alone both are stepping up defensively in a way we haven't really seen before or expected. I got dalls beating wolves and I think they will be a really tough opponent for the celts.

I don't care about the All NBA stuff and the awards in a vacuum. What annoys me is that the team is being called a superteam by every national media member but they didn't get the awards for it. Pick a side, they're either a superteam or they're not, but you can't call them a superteam if you're not going to acknowledge them as such when it comes to award voting.

That’s the problem these days, as a Data Science grad student, trust me, I understand the importance of analytics. But there’s a lot that can be left up to interpretation - from how data is collected, to what the statisticians choose to report, to just different methods of analysis. It’s not the data’s fault, it’s ours. And that’s why it’s so important to actually watch the games as well. Because there’s so much nuance to the data we are given, and there’s so much data out there, it’s a tall task to ask regular people to process it all. And let me say, the term “Sports Analyst” has lost quite a bit of credibility since people with Sports Media degrees are able to put that title on their resume when really they’re sports media personalities- emphasis on personality. There are really good stat-nerds out here in the NBA community, but don’t just trust anyone’s “analysis” without checking their credentials. Media illiteracy continues to be the downfall of conversations about the game I love.

For reference of the 26 teams that won 64 wins or more, 5 teams had only 1 All-NBA guy. All 5 of those guys won the MVP that year.

And do many people are acting like the Pacers just crapped the game away, committing multiple unforced turnovers at the end of the game. They are ignoring that on the Haliburton Tribble off his leg he had been harassed by Jrue, forcing him towards the sideline for multiple seconds before he turned it over; or that the Celtics locked the Pacers down on that in bounds pass and Jaylen was playing excellent defense on Siakham (yes there was grabbing, but there was grabbing on both teams all game that was rarely called).

End of the day, once All-NBA was tied to contracts, I knew it was going to be a sham moving forward. Agents are in ears of the voters for guys who have max eligibility on the line, silver wants to see those contracts too. Players want it, so the union is prolly in on it too.. It's just politics now. Literally every NBA analyst had JB as a borderline 2nd/top of the list 3rd teamer and he didn't even make it.. That tells me that it really came down to "we gave him the nod and he got his bag, now he's the sacraficial lamb for x guy to get his bag". 100%, its all a game of contracts now. Jaylen got a nudge up the rankings last year so he could get his bag, and this year he was the sacraficial lamb for hali. That said there was still a few guys who made it that he should have made it over.

Right at 33:40 is exactly why the Celtic will lose this year. The "open 3 is better than a contested layup" game plan is completely, totally unworkable in the playoffs. The Celts shoot about 32% form 3 in the playoffs and thay = lose the game. It is a stupid strategy
If the celtics convert 10 of the 2 missed threes as either 3s or 2s it's a 20 point blow out, when they were up by 10 and 12 they kept shooting 3s instead of going for the easy layup or pass for a layup. Shooting the 3 doesn't allow them to get rebounds since everyone is on the boundary. When they are up just take the easy points. I get they will miss sometimes but like keep the foot down don't let them back in
You gotta be who you are. Celtics are about taking good shots, whoever has them. Often times that is a three. I think its more about working for a good look vs the first one than it is about 3s vs rim looks... When we got up I saw a lot more quick triggers and contested shots in general. Both from three and inside.

In addition you are playing to the pacers strengths by giving them rebounds the celtics shot 45 3s that is a lot on non made shots
@@sbrady1790 That's assuming a lot. Missed layups are killers cuz they lead to easy transition opportunities for Indy. How do you know these are "easy" points.. Easy is open. This team at their best when they are moving the ball and taking advantage of catching the defense in rotation. THAT is what leads to easy looks and increases leads. Where we get in trouble is when we try to force the situation and attack mismatches too heavily or put our heads down and attack the rim etc etc. Thats when the bad shots and turnovers happen more frequently. It's not as simple as threes vs twos - its about forcing the defense to make a mistake through penetration and ball movement. If that leads to a layup. amazing. If that leads to a wide open three. Also amazing.

What I want to know, if Jayson Tatum sucks SOOOO bad and is only a role player, then why is 36/12/4 not a good game? (Which isn't even his entire statline) Also, what otherplayer in the NBA do they expect to have a higher statline every night than that?
I guess that means they really think he is the best player in the world on the inside.
You can say bad 4th. Questionable moments in OT but came through in the end. You can't say "bad game".
As has been mentioned, definitely not a great 4th and I'll give everyone this - Tatum doesn't tend to hit shots with under 20 seconds left in a quarter/half/game. But to say he is terrible is ridiculous, and to say, "ignore the stats he generates he's awful" is crazy. Here is the reason people dislike Tatum - yes the 20 dribble step back contested 3 is annoying. I see plenty of other superstars take and miss these too. But he is low energy in the interviews. The media hates this. He is very thoughtful and sincere, doesn't yell stuff like "Bring Ya Ass" like ANT, etc. Colin Cowherd is on record that he does not like Tatum's personality at all and feels he shouldn't be considered a superstar. He doesn't call out guys with bravado so they don't want him as the face of the league. They want Ja or ANT types. I couldn't care less about the face of the league. All I know is that I think we win a lot less games if Tatum wasn't here.
Every win is just one game closer to Porzingis' return.

I’m glad we were able to get away with a dub, but the behind the head pass that Tatum made in the waning moments of this game is one of the main reasons he will never win an MVP. I’ll advise shots at times extremely poor passing decisions at times Are not MVP qualities. Great scorer but all around game definitely has deficiencies still.
Its tough because when you look at it from the lense of total 4th plus OT... This is where he is weakest. He is an amazing player, but more often than not his late game performances are an absolute roller coaster. The other night is a perfect example. Zero points or assists in the fourth quarter until like 9 mins in I think? Couldn't hit a thing until neismith was out (credit to him). OT he gets the and 1 and the 3 and hits some foul shots but he also had the outrageous turnover at a TERRIBLE time that allowed Indy to get right back in it. Then caught the foul that gave them life again on Obi.
To his credit I thought he was great defensively, specifically at the end of regulation when he forced a really tough shot for hali. In the past he has let his offense dictate his defense too often, and that didn't happen game 1 and hasn't happened often this year. I think he just needs to work on his late game shot selection. You dont' need to take side step threes and fade aways etc with this celtics team. Move the ball, work off ball to get open. Trust the team and the ball will find its way back to you in much better positions to succeed.

Unfortunately for Brown, over the years he has taken a back seat to Tatum and has allowed Tatum to shine at his expense, a lot of the Celtic media criticize him for disappearing in games but that is because Tatum in those moments has the ball and doesn't want to pass it. Brown can have 26 points by the end of the third quarter and only gets 1 or 2 more shots in the 4th quarter....Tatum juts gets to eat more....and Brown seems to be okay with that. In this recent game, Brown had the opportunity to shoot it 5 to 8 more times, but instead he decided to pass it, and that is how Jrue holiday got most of his points....Tatum in important moments needs to trust his players and pass it more, instead of trying to take over games and playing miserable.
