This approach will work with all manner of effects. It's more the idea of experimentation, doing things you shouldn't, having a good time, recording the results and seeing what works. You can repeat the process iteratively with the new sounds you've made, or use the sounds you've produced as pieces in new sonic collages. If you enjoyed the video, every interaction and like helps enormously. What are some your fave things to do to breaks/sounds for resampling?
Nice eh?? Resampling for pads with fx like that really produces some amazing results, kind of unexpected actually. I wasn't expecting it to sound that good! Yeah I think it can be easy to overlook m4l for effects like eqs, compressors and tape style things in favour of mad sound devices, but Nik has produced some really class devices here. Cheers for the comment George! 🥁
Ahh thanks so much :) it's taken years to have some sort of understanding of what even compression actually is, so when I was sent these, I was like what the hell is an opto compressor!?
yeah it uses an optical sensor that triggers the attack when it senses light so the signal basically activates some sort of light source when the voltage is high enough to hit the threshold to engage the compressor. FET compressors have the fastest attack and the SSL G Bus compressor ia FET, the 1176 is a VCA and Fairchild's are tube compressors.@@HumanSynthetics
Yeah, same. It wasn't till like 2018 that I finally heard someone really explain it well, and hearing others who have similar stories, suggests to me that a lot of ppl either didn't know what they were talking about or were purposely trying to withhold the knowledge about it.I kind of think it's a bit of both. @@HumanSynthetics
I use them daily still! I love the EQ and the tape most. I'm not sure about P3 support tbh, but Isotonik probably have better info on their page. Recommended either way.
Surprisingly simple eh? I've seen others use it before, but it has so many applications. Adding the fm to a straight sine wave in Sampler producers some great modern dnb timbres too! I'm a sucker for those pure sins tones.
Good point! And one I could've elaborated on - I think it acts almost like a bell curve, or band pass when you boost and cut at the same frequency on the fixed band puigtech eq.
Only if you dig the sound! I did get these for free with the purpose of recording a review, but since doing that they've remained pretty high up in my sonic arsenal list. I would highly recommend them (in fact all of the monomono M4L stuff) if you're after Ableton-centric EQ/tape saturation/LA2 style optical compression effects. I know the dev too and they really go into the nitty gritty modelling the actually irl og gear, and all in Max where anyone can open it up and see what's happening. I do get a small kick back if anyone uses the affiliate links to purchase stuff but that's where it ends. I'm always keen to try M4L native stuff that's a bit more akin to something you'd see in a VST that's a lot more and I think monomono nailed it with these. I thought that would be a good thing to share :)

P.S. MY FAVE IS TAPE!!
38:30 I love pitch warbles! That device looks dope, has a really cool UI inside of Ablteon like that.

Those Pads are crazy!
Thanks so much :) yeah that tape warble worked so well when I first did - a happy accident.
Insane man.
most beautiful M4L devices ever
Yeah, they're gorgeous. Did you know in the Tape devices you can do a tape stop effect by clicking on the tape reels :) ?
the LA2A is an opto compressor they are often known to have slower attacks than VCA or fet compressors

Very nice.
Cheers Al! 💜
Sweet devices. How is Push 3 support?

That akai test tone got a Rhodes vibe bukem kinda thing

Interesting devices.
But I don't understand why one would link a boost and cut dial at the same frequency band. Doesn't that just neutralise itself?

@@HumanSynthetics Ah, ok. I have a bit of background research to do :) Thanks for the reply!
where can I get these pads?
:)
so u got this for free and want us to pay huh?
