Man don't listen to someone who says that you playing drums lightly is a bad thing. That's the problem with drummers today, none of them would make it into college. It's a gift to be able to play something fast or progressive very softly. That's why jazz drummers are the best. But Jason Rullo is very good as well and so are you.
