    A helpful roomtone trick if you're shooting at a busy location- if you have an idea when there is going to be a lack of noise caused by outside forces, ask the AD if you can record the roomtone sooner than later. For example, I was shooting in a bar in Hollywood and I asked "Hey if time allows us, can we grab the roomtone before rush hour traffic starts up later this afternoon?"

    Room tone, use a punch copy/paste plug in to record a few seconds of room tone on a loop. You can either insert room tone using punch copy/paste in the silent gaps or you can lay down a continuous track of room tone and use auto duck to bring the room tone level down when there is speech and up when there isn’t.

    Hi, how can you guys use what appear to be short shotgun type microphones indoors, when the common idea is that they are to be used outside and use dynamic type microphones inside a room that appears to have no special treatment? I have tried used to two "pencil condensers- the samson c02" and the sound is nothing like the setup you have there? What type of treatment, hacks or techniques are you guys using to get the crisp audio that you do in these videos?

    Curtis Judd sez you should normalize to -16 LUFS for web, including RUclips! I'm a fan of you both - what am I to do?!

    • @DeityMicrophones
      @DeityMicrophones  4 года назад +2

      We found in some research that Curtis is right but that it seems RUclips might be doing post audio processing to your video when it's encoding during upload. And a part of that process is normalizing it to -14LUFs.
      You'll notice videos on RUclips now are way more even in volume than videos a few years ago.

  • @commercialand
    @commercialand 4 года назад

    So what if your doing a 2 shot cueing the mic aiming it to 2 different directions to get room tone since you aimed the same to get dialogue? do you capture RT for both sides where both actors were sitting? and how would you ever know which way you were aiming the mic capturing that room tone to match in post?
    I don't think you can! Unless you call it out room tone for this actor and that actor, but not sure the director will like you capturing more tone than "they" think you need!
    I would think if you just get room tone where one of the actors was sitting, then it will still sound very different when you put the tone where the opposite actor was sitting, no? hope this makes sense.

I have a Pocket 4k and a Zoom H4n pro, so I'm thinking I can get a mic that could be used on the camera unless I have more time to set it up on a pole.
