- Welcome to the first tutorial in the GoPro beginners guide. Todays tutorial will help you understand the settings on your GoPro camera. I will run through the video, timelapse and nightlapse settings and what each different setting means. All of this is to help you understand your camera better. If you have any questions, feel free to post them below and I will answer them as best as I can.
See these links for Abe's blog posts which I mentioned numerous times in the video:

wow,a video that doesn't waste 20 min showing you how to take it out of a box, this is great info
Yeah, I agree John Walker. This young feller really has done an excellent job of this. He gets straight to the point, tells you each point clearly. Thanks to his expert delivery, I have FINALLY got my go pro set up how I want it.
Thanks heaps Rayzor Studios. you are a legend.
Thanks Youngster, us old folks are all pretty ignorant when it comes to this techy stuff. I learned a lot here and I am now subscribed. I'll be watching for anything new.
I just got my Hero 4 silver last week, couldn't find a tutorial on all the basic functions. You're the best. Throughly detail for beginners like me. Ace!
Great video pal , only used my hero 4 silver about 4 times from new , never learnt how to use it , this video has made me get it out the draw and practice ready for my holiday in 5 weeks
Thanks so much for your informative tutorial. I have learned more from you than any other tutorials that I could find. I especially like your presentation. You seem to genuinely enjoy teaching and that comes thru to your videos. Unlike a number of videos, you are not trying to impress the listener that you are more intelligent than anyone else. Also, your accent is very charming. I'm 79 years old and just got my gopro 4 and I have some great ideas for its use. Best of luck, Les
Thanks, this is the best beginners guide I've found so far. Really appreciate you taking the time to make this video
the color of the sky at the end is incredible! looks so unpolluted which is good
Great tutorial....Just purchased the GP4-Silver. Thanks for the tutorial on how to setup the basics.
At last someone who can explain things on the GP4B without waffeling on and on thanks a lot bud
appreciate this so much. I just won one on ebay for $18. The catch is that the rear screen doesn't work, so i'm happy to see that I can access these settings.

Thanks man, hopefully some more tutorials coming out in the future! Glad they are helping out
Thank you very much for your video and for going into detail about the settings and the why’s. I had to buy a GoProH4B because this is the only camera that works with an underwater/wind buffing microphone. Your video is exactly what I was looking for!
Worked like a charm, thanks!
Brilliant video, just starting out with Go Pro and my head has been spinning trying to figure the thing out, many thanks.
thank you the most detailed go pro beginners guide
Excellent video. Really helped me understand my Black Hero4.
Superb demo
just purchased a refurb gopro 4 silver, my first gopro, great tutorial, thanks for this (irritating bird!!)
Great tutorial... so young yet so helpful already 😀
Wow, great video, thanks my friend. I've only just bought my first Gopro, a Hero 4 and thanks to your video I now know what all the settings I will ever need are. I did buy a cheap Chinese Gopro lookalike, but although the video and timelapse quality is ok, it does suffer a lot with burnt out skies. So not really recommended if you want the sky in shot. Good for a basic dashcam for evidence though. But I know the Gopro are far more superior to that.
Ray, thank you for your tutorials. They are very helpful.
Us aussies know how to make no bullshit straight to the point videos,of which yours is one of these.
Thanks for showing this old non tech bloke how to use this thing.Cheers.
Hi hope you can answer.
My hero 4 silver 1080p only goes to 60 frames. yet yours goes to 120?
So young .....so smart.... Thanks for this video.....this really helped a lot.
A1 thanks a proper video not a waste of time, well done
Very well done young man. Thank you!
+DarkEnergyFitness Thanks, glad you enjoyed!
Omg thank you I learned more off this video than anywhere else
Thanks man awesome video
Great Video Rayzor...thanks for the information!
Excellent video but I had to go to another help video to figure out that the side button gets you into the screen that allows you to change your video settings. Suggest you start off your video with 1) Turn camera on, press the power button 2) Click side bottom buttton on left hand of Gorpro once to get to settings page 3) Now you can change the settings. It sounds obvious but I missed it and I have been in this hobby a long time.
I really appreciate your video on the Hero 4 settings. I was struggling with the menu navigation trying to find the settings I needed to do an 8 month time lapse of a construction project, starting tomorrow. The AH - HA part of your video provided me with the 30 minute shot interval I need between image captures
Very helpful, thanks!!!
Excellent job! Thanks for this. Easy and understandable.
This video was very helpful. Thanks!

Hi Ray.Another great tutorial. I have a Hero 4 silver. And I'm doing some timelapse of plants growing on the window cill in my kitchen. We have just watched a week's worth of videos. It's so good!!! But I can see the whole kitchen. I have tried to narrow the FOV down to 'N'. But when I start off filming again. It's gone back to 'W' FOV. Why is this happening? Could you explain how to set it up So it stays on 'N' FOV, please. Thanks from the UK. Dave.
Good informative clip.
+Ed Willcox Thank you!
Thanks that was really helpful!
Thanks for your tutorial video. I have a question can you help, my gopro hero4 silver always stop at 2:00 minutes how I reset to continuing video.
Great job young man. Filmed a band's full program with Hero4 Silver. What's the best way to divide off each individual musical number?
Thank you

Can u post?
Thanks so much! This really helped me! Also, what is your exact camera, the hero 4 silver, or black?
Great video! Thank you! :)
+Av De Torres No worries glad you enjoyed!
Thinking of picking one up Are these easy to use retreaving to Iphone or IPad to download on RUclips

Very helpful, thank you.
What is the best video setting for fast action sports so I can later use Zoom in GoPro Studio to focus on one player?
+Bill Youngberg i guess 1080p on 60FPS :) i used it to film my gokart races
Really helpful and informative! Thank you!!!
Thanks, glad it helped you out!
Do you have a video showing how you scale your 4K footage down to 1080p? I am guessing you will still need tons of hard drive space when your bringing in 4K footage to be converted to 1080p right?
Thank you very helpful!
+Karina M Glad it helped you out!
I hope mine to my helmet for adventure bike riding what would good settings be
on my camera i do not have the setting you have. When i choose "video" it doesnt go to the "mode" list etc but straight to the setting to record vids - and those settings are not in the "settings" option - how do i get the settings up that youre seeing? tks - update: i found it - you have to press the little button on the side to get to the page to change video settings when in video mode
what do you do to save battery ?
thanks man!
what you recommended for video 1080 or 4k for hero 4 silver, because I used 4k in my videos and still choopy a lot.
Thank you ⚘️🙋♂️
does the gopro hero 4 have to be fish eye, or can you make it linear?
Thans men. Sending my full suport
How do I open the side door on the camera next to the camera lens?
Awesome
So shoot with protune on but gopro colour for photos too?
Samson Scholten If you dont plan on editing the photos later in photoshop or lightroom then yes, but if you plan to edit them more shoot with the colour profile on flat :)
thanks man
I noticed in your video that the low light setting was on in the video mode. Do you normally just leave this setting in the on position?
Great vid even though u posted this a very long time go
My GP4 Black isn't recording sound. Is there a setting to turn on the sound recording?
Hey I just have a few questions. I don't edit my video's I will just be using them and putting short clips on instagram and such. As well with photos. I have the gopro hero 3 black edition what settings should I use. Should I have protune on or off. Thanks.
Samson Scholten Hey man, seeing as you dont intend on colour correcting your footage I would shoot with protune on but leave the colour profile to GoPro Colour. Then shoot in 1080p at the highest frame rate possible (sorry I cant remember what this is for the hero 3 black hah). Then you should be good to go!
Thanks alot!
+Rayzor Studios Hi why do I have blue streaks on my pictures
+Rayzor Studios Thanks very helpful
Hi, Can you inform me how can i get continuous filming on my go pro hero 4 black? It breaks every 17 minuets at the moment. Cheers
Great Vid mate, sounds like you have budgies in the back ground LOL
How do open the bottom door?
How do i get the included mount of the top of the box on a GP4 ?
Hi any idea...
My hero4 battery has low life in video recording...it takes only 10 minutes for continue recording before its going to deadbatt...please help..
just a quick question how do you downsize the file to 1080p? I have movie maker and gopro studio can i do it on one of them?
+Nathan Petts I think if you're shooting with 4K or 2.7K or even 1440p, once you're edited your clip, when you export the clip, you can choose on what you want to export it. I'm new to this GoPro myself, just bought a Hero 4 Silver. :)
How can i keep the go pro to keep looping instead of having to wipe the sd card clean when its full?
thank you so much! :D
This go pro hero 4 have a bluetooth?
hi my friend how can i do it perfect photo?
I cant seem to get the sunny light out of the pic what am I doing wrong, which setting lowers the sun light
thanks
+arif kukaj You may need to do some colour correction to change the exposure. If you film directly into sunlight you will get this no matter what.
hey man hopefully you see this cause when ever I upload my videos to my laptop the video is faster than the sound or the sound is faster than the video how can I fix it without editing it in laptop?
