Definitely great books to work on with kids to discuss stories.

I have come to appreciate more and more the books that really show "the slice of life" in their stories. I hope more books are made like this :) Great review!

Slice of life can be really powerful, when done right. And I hope so too! Thank you so much!

I don’t really read middle grade at all and the only time I read picture books are when I’m with kids (like au pairing or working at the nursery) but these sound great! I love that we have some single parent representation and it also discusses and portrays a low income family. It does sound emotional and there are more families in this situation than I’d like at the moment. It’s equally important for those kids to see themselves and also for other kids to learn about these situations!!

That's so cool you work at a nursery! These two books are really good, and I too was really happy to see more single parent presentation! I agree, I'm also not so pleased with the rise of low income families, but very happy that literature is reflecting this. I think it can really help children to sympathize with others less fortunate as well as comfort other children. Thank you so much for watching!

That 1st book seems like a real depiction of what it’s like to be a single mother on a day to day basis. I like the gut punches that a book can give.

I feel like that too! I haven't personally experienced such, but it feels very true and honest. And me too! Those are the best reads.

That definitely sounds like a unique setup for a children's novel.

wow never thought that children book get into such social subjects, but shouldn't be a surprise considering families have these type of struggles.

There's been a bit of a "boom" in Children's books that touch on more social subjects, which is exciting since as you said families struggle with such issues, so the stories are much appreciated :-)
