Building a 1000HP+ S58 Forged Engine for our G82 M4 with Mr VANOS

- With the car running consistent 9.9s 1/4 miles on pump fuel and stock turbo it's time to set our sights on the next target, 1000bhp!
To do this we're following in the footsteps of our hugely successful S63 Engine Build package in partnership with Mr VANOS. Together we've been building the fastest and most reliable F90 M5s for the last few years and we hope to continue that legacy with the S58 engine found in the G8x M3/M4.
In this video we join Steve as we take a look at the internals of the S58 engine, how it differs to the S55, and what we're upgrading and developing to make this engine in to a true powerhouse.
Plus who doesn't love a timelapse of an engine being built!

But given the lack of at Drag Race events, we hope to see it in a trial in (Carwow), for example, in the future. I look forward to the results we will see from this monster.

I just picked up an LCI X3M comp. So glad to hear him praising BMW’s upgrades over the previous engines. It seems like they were a bit of a broken record for a while never addressing some failure components in the past.
Strong looking engine
I own an F80 M3 CS, with almost 90k kilometers, first owner, and no issues with crank pulley. I don't intend to tune it. But with these videos by specialists who know what they are talking about, the car is pretty much unsellable I guess, thanks for that.

Did you reuse the same stock bearings or did you use new oem or aftermarket ones?

For the money you cannot go wrong with a BMW they have absolutely zero misses with the 1 series , 2 series , 3 series , 4 series 5 , 6 and 8 series for the money you can get a complete monster of a german engineered beast only German manufacturer that still does manuals on most of it's cars and they don't pretend to be a full out luxury brand like Mercedes and Audi, BMW and Volkswagen knows how to build motors they make the most with what they have Volkswagen obviously the kings of 4 cylinders and BMW the kings of low displacement inline 6 motors and the kings of low displacement 8 cylinders , beautiful Sportscars and they build cars for every type of person if you want Luxury they have those if you want a mid sportscar they have the 35i and 40i cars if you want a fully fledged sportscar the M2 M3 and M4 is there if you want luxury comfort and tech the 5 series and 8 series is there if you want a Mom car they have that SUV'S they have that with engines ranging from 4 cylinders to 8 cylinders and small displacements like 1.6 to 4 liters BMW will remain the kings , they've built a gigantic array of future classics look at the E30 M3 the E36 M3 the E46 M3 and the E92 M3 they are still extreme favourites even though their old the new M's will be like those cars for future owners BMW is the king of future proofing the kings
Having built a 1JZ myself … the block and thickness of the S58 is extremely similar. Really cool to see going back to the tried and true “bigger is better” for this motor
If only the front grilles of that gen of BMWs didn't look like straight up rabbit's teeth. I will never be able to look at one without "What's up Doc?" going through my head.
Does the s58 have forged pistons or rods from factory?
Are you pulling the motor from down under?

Gearbox is also now built, so shouldn’t be an issue. Have seen a few people damaging 5/6th gear by running too much power through standard, much less than our goal!

I’m assuming you mean G82, and it’s xDrive. We wouldn’t bother doing this to a RWD car, big power RWD cars you’re always fighting against traction limits.

Can anyone explain what those round things on top of the engine where fuel line are connected to?

These engines are going to be the next 2J as imran mentioned in the video. This may be a noob question, but can anyone explain why they appear to be using a DTI gauge or something similar to that effect when torquing down the big end caps?

It could be as you mentioned, or it could be for clearance issues with the crankcasing maybe??

It’s an ‘ARP Stretch Gauge’, which ARP give the specs for as it’s more accurate than a torque spec, I’d never seen it either! Here’s a video from HPA that explains it - m.ruclips.net/video/uqjHdKkurXs/видео.html
Torque can be varied by things such as lubrication, stretch is more precise.

They are yes
Does anyone know the exact part number on that kit. Cant find it anywhere. Also are they the same dimensions with the

Entire process would take about a week, drive in drive out.
What Brand of glasses are those?

Alot of people running over 1000 on stock internals and no problems have come up yet

Don’t believe he has much experience with them, but they do share similarities with the S58
Why do you still have a plastic intake manifold?
We fitted the stock one during run in so that we could do testing with no performance altering parts tested to check against the standard engine.
In the next video we take advantage of all the added strength this engine and transmission has given us

It's fantastic to have a 1000 hp, but can you put all that power down and use it, a Porsche GT3 with less power still destroys loads of cars with more hp.
This isn’t a competitor to a GT3, but it will be interesting to see how it compares to tuned a Turbo S
They probably over-engineered it so it will last to 2035 and be the last straight-six.
Definitely BMW showing what they can do. Wouldn’t be surprised to see the S58 as a hybrid with a much bigger turbo in the future

Australia does it best. Their everyday G80s are punching low to mid 8s with stock bottom ends. So advanced in performance
