Thanks for doing my suggestion so soon. Kai is a beast, I only discovered Wintersun because of him joining Nightwish. Jari (the lead vocalist) writes everything. He's known to take his time though. He writes like one album per decade. 😂

The drumer Kai Hato is nowadays the NigthWish drumer.
Yeah. More exactly, the drummer's last name is Hahto - a bit like Jajto in Spanish
This is why I love watching reactions. I learned about this band from watching and reading people coments on other videos, and ofc I had to coment on here aswell for you guys to listen to this. It's a very good way to learn about bands we otherwise would not hear of.
Having said that, and after you guys have been flabbergasted by every single member of this band, they have 2 more songs at this recording session, Time and Land of snow and Sorrow, go check that out :)
And Kai still finds a moment to smile at the camera :-)

Great reaction guys. Dude on the left knows his stuff. Try the first album by Wintersun and also the first album by Ensiferum, featuring the same lead singer/guitarist/songwriter, the mighty Jari Mäenpää. Those are two of my favourite records of all time, and there are no bad songs on either of them so just dive in. Good luck :)
Thanks so much for this reaction! I never heard of Wintersun either and liked it a lot! I’m not fond of growling either but they changed it up enough to keep the total song interesting. Instrumentally they are awesome. I started loving prog.rock in the 70’s. These change-ups make it very exciting to listen too. Same as Nightwish, you never kmow what’s coming. Thanks for choosing this video. Oh, the genre is called melodic deathmetal ( if I translated it correctly from wikipedia).

Well Kai knows a ton of technique. I'd wager that minimizes some of the energy that he has to expend. Obviously not to the point that he won't sweat like a race horse, but it would keep his stamina up for those long songs like this, PnP and TGSOE. I do miss Jukka's passion. It's just unbridled, but you can still tell Kai loves to play. There is a drum cam of him playing Ghost Love Score and yea. Insane.

That was fun to watch, lost count of how many stink-faces you made.
This truly is a masterpiece, at some point listen to the album version on your own. The layering of melodies is a bit more distinguishable, often times 4 separate melodies overlapping. I don't think Jari (lead vocal/composer/etc) records anything that isn't epic.
Best listen to the remastered versions of the albums. Jari himself admitted that he wasn't entirely satisfied with the original mastering.
What a performance. Kai must have lost 10 pounds during this song!

Hey try out a New Zealand band called Alien Weaponry. They are a metal band but some of their song are in Te reo, this means they sing in the another language so you will need to look them up before. The first one you should look into is called Kai Tangata, watch the video with it as it will have more impact, I think you will like them a bit and yes they do sing in English too. It’s two brothers with a family friend as the third, they are young, one is 20 and the other two are 18, they started when they were only 10 I think???

Nice you got this so soon. Wintersun is really good band, skill, skill, skill... There is in RUclips also drum cam video about this song, Kai Hahto showing his skill :D . He is a robot, and like Floor, never mistakes! So, when Nightwish have now Floor - worlds best female metal vocalist and then they have Kai - some considering he is this moment world´s best metal drummer... Kai has been very busy with Nightwish, so he haven´t had time to Wintersun. Two last tours Wintersun has had other drummers and what I have heard - they played more simple way... :D . I don´t wonder why, it might be really difficult to duplicate Kai´s drumming :D
I saw already several suggestions to song Time from this same rehearsal, I will also suggest that.
From that rehearsal, you can find three songs and they are all from their second album. That album has only 5 songs. So, after you have done these three rehearsal video, you have heard more than half from that second album (Time 1).
Jari´s music making process is very similar than Tuomas Holopainen from Nightwish. Both hear music in their heads and then try to wrote it down to the band.
After listening little more Wintersun, you might look some other Finnish metal bands like Amorphis and Insomnium. But maybe now first few Wintersun songs?

The mix of the sound from the drum cam and the others is a bit off sync in the end, but just dig the drums.
Saw these guys live on tour with Arch Enemy (headliner), Jinjer and Tribulation. Wintersun played the roof of the avenue....
Absolute masterpiece.

It sounds like the younger brother wants to hear some speed and thrash metal. He likes the energy of the instruments but no so much the growl. That's more or less the main difference between Wintersun and say a band like Iron Maiden.
Still got my fingers crossed you can do an golden earring video. Best songs imo to react to: Radar Love. When a Lady Smiles. Another 45 Miles. Twilight Zone. And if you're very brave... No, maybe you should check this on out without cam: Love is a Loser.

You guys should check out Emperor Curse you all men live at waken. And I personally would say Wintersun are closer to Emperor than CoF , as for guitar work drums and vocally

Time metal, is what Wintersun does. Atavistia is another example, they were inspired by, and sound alot like Wintersun.
