I am about to take this a step farther and add another airfilter. Stay tuned. :)

Now I'm kicking my butt that I just spent $295.00 for the custom snorkel kit, and this system you came up with is much simpler and cheaper.

I'm searching for help concerning the cvt cooling duct work. I have a new 800 trail. A few days ago I was crawling through 18"-20" of water. The tube somehow filled with water and water got into the engine as well. She shut off!! I drained the tube.....water ran out for quite a number of seconds. Engine oil naturally milky with water. I'm waiting for new filters to arrive. No water from cvt housing yet it may be frozen. My little buddy heater is warming it now. I don't believe water should have been able to get in at all in that depth of water. The tube is sloppily wrapped with heat tape. I'm unsure what lies underneath. Has this happened to anyone else?...help!!!

The intake tube comes up behind the driver's seat but the CVT's exhaust is low..it blows the air out across the front cylinder's exhaust pipe and it's O2 sensor. You can relocate that a bit higher but then you would loose the air circulation and cooling effect it gives that area. What concerns me is...water in that CVT discharge or in the belt area won't get in to the engine or kill it. Make the belt slip like hell...yes. It has to be much higher to get in. Better check all your intake duct connections, air box, any open or missing plugs cause water in the engine...means death to it sometime down the road. If its milky, that means it has already been run through the oil pump and all the bearings...including the rod bearings. I would also pull the belt cover, clean and inspect ...everything.

@@nmkawierider Thanks for the reply and suggestions. A little back round if I may. This is the first ATV,UTV, motorcycle I have ever owned. I have a strong back round in small engine repair and have seen water in sumps before with successful repair. Of course the engines I've worked on are less complicated. I've been around a while just pushing 60.
I had no knowledge of wet clutches, but today I spent hours learning. The belt cover as you described it is exactly that...a belt cover with a centrifugal set up hiding beneath it. I have yet to see a drop of water come from the drain, but it is cold in my area and I will remove the cover as you suggested to make sure any water hasn't frozen.Tomorrow promises a mid-50's day...perfect.
Now the wet clutch. Not really much different than an ordinary clutch except there are many of them in tandem soaked in oil. I don't get the fresh air need since the cooling is done by the oil "shared" by the motor.
In any case I have to believe minus so far any water from the belt cover, a bone dry air box and filter and the water drained from the fresh air tube to the crankcase. My problem lies in that fresh air tube?
Lastly, because I made what I hope is not a fatal error trying to start the engine when winched out of the water I could clearly smell gas from the exhaust. Hopefully just enough water prevented ignition. Hydro lock you say? I hope not.
thanks again

What oil do you suggest for uni? All I have available is spectre and k&n

ONLY use foam filter oil/treatment. I use Maxima FAB1 oil and it's cleaner. I found that the Unifilter oil and No-toil both tent to get pulled into the intake track where it coats the air temp/mass air flow sensor. With FAB1, if you roll a paper towel up inside after working the FAB1 through to get rid of any extra...and let it dry well before installing it, it won't do that. Bel-Ray also works well but will also require their cleaner to get it all off.

Was wondering how this mod worked. Did it still get a lot of dust in the air box? I like this mod and am thinking about doing it. I only run forest roads and no water unless its a mud puddle here and there. Thanks for your videos.

• @nmkawierider
@nmkawierider  3 года назад

Boy this was the first of many evolutionary mods. Yes, it still got lots of dust but not as much and no engine heat. I sence tries air filters on it there which plugged fast, then re-routed to the side (both the engine air and CVT intake) and went with stacks with in-line filters...... much better, then plumbed the two (the engine air and CVT intake) in preparation for the S&B particle separator. I currently just stuck a Donaldson Top Spin Particle Separator on it until I can afford the S&B..although it gets 80+ % of the dust out before it gets to the first filters I can go all week without cleaning them instead of a few hours. . I don't know if these image links will work but there is a later video here that shows some of this.

Hello, love the videos I just purchased a Vforce. I see in a later video you added a bolt to the intake pipe to the new manifold. There a reason for that?

• @nmkawierider
@nmkawierider  7 лет назад

Sorry, Not sure what you are referring to. The evolution of this intake system has taken several turns over time but other then mounting in an earlier version with the old pipe, I am not aware of any bolts added. This video here is the very first one with the first modification. These links will catch you up on where it's at now. cfmoto-forum.com/how-to's/additional-air-cleaner/ Next cfmoto-forum.com/how-to's/z8-engine-air-intake-tube-change-out/

Sorry I was looking from an earlier video. How Did the setup turn out? Did you have any issues? I will be repeating your setup on mine in the near future.
BTW love your Videos they are a huge help.

Glad they help. My setup for me is great. But if I were to do it again, I would come up with a snorkel and use an in-line filter instead.

I will be starting my upgrade this week, I will look into the snorkel and inline filter see what i can come up with.

NMKawierider yeah I know I seen your video couple years ago.
I remember you from the Kawasaki Riders forum ...
I was just looking for that heat matting for another project...
Maybe in a few days or even after the holidays I can give you a call or PM you I want to pick your brain about the Blower you put in the CVT snorkel .
I'm going to post a video showcasing my Brute Force on my RUclips channel and put it on my local Craigslist.
Who knows with any luck by the first of the year I might be owning a new CF Moto Z Force.
