    If you have the time, you can try and watch a video done by “Under the Scope” explaining the story of Clannad and its ending. Most people forgot that there is a “supernatural” tag in this series(Fuko’s Arc and Misae’s cat), so they become confuse with the ending. The series drop hints along the way that makes the ending make sense. Those hints was the legend of the city, the light orbs, the parallel world, Akio’s story of Nagisa dying and so on.

      Yeah, and it's kinda important to keep in mind that this is an adaption of a Visual Novel. The whole "Gathering light motes by making people happy" was a gameplay element required to unlock the happy ending.

    it was nice watching your reaction for the series and now its time to explain everything :p in the visual novel everything is actually explained from 0 to 10. Lemme begin, the story all starts after ushio and okazaki die, ushio feels regret for leaving her dad all alone and her soul goes to the illusionary world instead of the afterlife (the place where we see her and the robot) where she builds the robot and use it as a container for okazaki's soul .The illusionary word is responsible for granting wishes in exchange for light orbs (light orbs are granted from doing good deeds, like helping kotomi get over her past and depression, helping fuko spirit achieve her goal...etc). Usually it needs 1 orb for 1 wish (similar to the dorm lady and the cat story) but tomoya wish was extremely hard to achieve thus it required a lot of orbs. So how did tomoya collect the orbs actually? every time the girl sends the robot to collect stuff she is actually sending tomoya to the beginning of the story resetting his memories in the vn he ends up with several girls granting them happiness (like in tomoyo route they actually ended up dating and living together), everytime he gets an orb , lives his life normally, then die and get sent back to the illusionary world (normal death not anything special he lives his life to the fullest)... anyways the world where tomoya and ushio dies still exists, and is going forward aki and sanae continued their lives normally after the tragedy (it did not just disappear out of the blue), while the world you saw in the end is the world created because of okazaki's wish. His wish was actually to remove the contract between nagisa and the city (it is shown in previous episode that nagisa actually dies as a kid and akio brings her back by praying to the city, thus creating a contract between nagisa and the city, later as the city start changing , nagisa starts to die slowly, and it gets passed down to ushio later on) so after breaking the contract you see that nagisa survived giving birth and ushio was born healthy. Now why does nagisa have memories of the illusionary world? it is because she went to it for a brief moment when she died between akios hands before his wish. What does the ending scene mean here? actually okazaki and nagisa where having a picnic in there and ushio ran off and fell asleep then was found by fuko (we see the girl from the other world just to confirm that the girl was ushio and that her soul have left that world finally after granting okazaki his grand wish). If you have any more questions feel free to ask :D (ps. how did okazaki die after ushio's death ? when he fell on the snow he was too depressed to get back up, and eventually died from hypothermia... yeah it is messed up even his death was painful TT-TT ) if u still have anymore questions feel free to ask ;p
    - edite extra fun fact : The filler episodes in season 1 are actually fully cannon , tomoyo route was extremely successful that it got its alternative visual novel called tomoyo after ! Nagisa did not actually have much of a roll in other routes but anime had to force her in even when she does not fit just to keep the spotlight on her as a main gate (in fuko story for example when they stayed overnight in the school it was actually only okazaki and fuko without nagisa, which makes it more depressing)

    • @LaDixCommentaries
      @LaDixCommentaries  3 года назад +5

      Thanks alot for the explanation! I think the only thing I'm wondering with that is that, in the world we see at the very end when Ushio was asleep under the tree, is that actually the "happy ending" world that tomoya and nagisa actually live on in?

      @@LaDixCommentaries the 2nd ova is actually cannon its mainly a recap but the ending is a continuation from that scene you will understand it once you watch it, but for referance ushio 1st appearing as her other world form was to imply that her soul is finally free and that ushio was the girl from the other world (it is in the good world)

    i am not an expert so parts of this may be wrong, my understanding is that it comes from the gameplay of the visual novel, there are lights that you collect tall through the game, last episode you saw the end of nagisa's story but there is also a secret ending that can only be unlocked by playing the nagisa story while having all the lights, however one of those lights is obtained from the reconciliation with his father that only happens in the nagisa story after she dies, and so the player would have to play the entire game, including the tragic nagisa story, then choose to be with nagisa again even knowing what is to come in order to get the happy ending

    • @Uzumaki1218
      @Uzumaki1218 3 года назад +8

      Fun fact: Every 'light' that Tomoya has collected appears in every Episode Title card. Since the beginning in Clannad, whenever he helps a friend or family achieve their happiness, a new 'light' is added to the card.

    The way you're confused is because you almost get your theory right but went chaos because of how fast everything happened in this episode. You can read the comments or watch an explanation video on youtube. Or if you still want to understand it yourself, you can try to find the answer on episode 24 (23 is a complete filler but a nice break before 24), and if you still don't get it after 24, let's discuss.
    I hope your channel will be successful in the future

    here's my theory : Tomoya went around granting a lot of different wishes (hence the light orbs popping up throughout the show), and similar to the original light novel, if he got enough orbs he could have a wish granted of his own. And so when him and ushio died, they ended up in the other world as the girl and the robot. When Ushio died Tomoya begged Nagisa to save ushio, hence making it clear to the universe or whatever that his wish was to save Ushio. But time isn't linear since nothing exists in the other world, hence why there were parallels between what happened in both worlds.Tomoya's wish couldn't be properly granted, because the dead cant come back. Because of that, his and ushios soul could only be taken to an alternate universe very similar to their original reality. Im not sure why they appear as the girl and the robot though. in the world of orbs, it could be apart of the process of taking them to an alternate reality (like purgatory) or a right of passage in order for Tomoya's wish to be granted. like souls being judged first before. I think nagisa could've been the last wish Tomoya had to complete in order for his wish to be granted. which is why the hug scene with nagisa was important. her wish being to not have her husband regret meeting her.
    theres another thought i have: fuko is weirdly relevant when it comes to the ending. It could also be that tomoya and ushio are comatose in their original reality like fuko was, and their subconscious took form in another reality. and the fuko in the end is the same subconscious of fuko during the fuko arc. so this fuko could be aware about ushios nature in the end due to her OWN nature. so basically fuko arc fuko, original tomoya, and original ushio, and possibly nagisa are all in an alternate reality together.

      @@LaDixCommentaries it could be that that was the exact moment they (or ushio in this case) technically first came to the alternate universe, and that the ending of the show were memories inherited by their counterparts. Like tomoya remembers giving ushio a bath and singing the dango song. Or it could be both ushio and tomoya came to the alternate reality at different point in time. Tomoya came back during nagisas pregnancy and ushio came back near the tree further along the line. I think this would explain why fuko seemed to act as if she was meeting ushio for the first time. Idk lol I'm coming up with stuff. It could've also just been a coincidental artistic touch to show fukos understanding if the situation. To hint that she knows smth about ushio.

    • @foxfireespresso
      @foxfireespresso 3 года назад +1

      @xInfoRaderx I thought it was understood that since he still remembered Nagisa's death when it started back after she gave birth that time wasn't simply rewound. Unless they rewound time but not him which would work I guess.

      I think this is all wonderful to see so many theories, and it makes me happy to see that this show even though it seems mostly explained, can also be interpreted by people however way they want :) Thank you so much for the insightful comments, I will definitely take all these interesting theories into account for the next few episodes.

      I had such a different experience than you! For me, the show was such a filling experience, as opposite of an emptying one. While I felt the loss of the characters so intensely that I can’t to this day speak about it without crying, I was also incredibly humbled by the questions posed by the story: Can you still to leap blindly into love, if you know it will end in tragedy? Would you dare give yourself over, make yourself vulnerable, in face of loss? Is love worth the grief? No one is walking out of this alive, death is a certainty, so is there a point to life? And then the show is bold enough to answer *YES* to all those questions, and that’s beautiful.

    Mini-story warning. Forgive my ramblings.
    Love the anime, but don't forget to love the studio that brought it to life. Kyoto Animations. I began watching anime around October of 2020, and I fell in love with it after viewing "Elfin Lied." Skip a few anime ahead and I found myself sitting through the ever so gorgeous Violet Evergarden. That series flipped my entire perspective on what anime can truly be, and was the first time I ever took interest in researching the studio behind the work. Then I found Kyoani... but with them... their terrorist attack. Knowing that those who worked on my then favorite anime, some didn't make it. Even if it was a year later, it was the first time I cried to such a tragic event that occurred to people I didn't even know. I was hurt, but I wanted to see what other works they had made. This is when Clannad appeared. I'd pass it up because I thought it would be too long and boring, but now knowing the crew that developed it... it meant something different. So I gave it a chance... I cried... multiple times... to the same damn scenes... for days on end... Kyoani provided me with an outlet for my bottled emotions, and personally, I don't think another studio will ever match their passion for their works. Kyoani has changed me for the better, given me lessons to help me move on, and has shown me why anime isn't a genre for kids. Rather, another creative outlet full of some of the brightest and imaginative minds out there. I love Kyoani. May those who lost their lives be forever remembered within the works they left behind in this timeline. Maybe, just maybe, they are still continuing their dreams in another. ❤
    Story time over. If you read this LaDix, Keep up your amazing reactions. Love your realism, and the fact you are not afraid to show emotion. I never ran into your channel during the height of MLP, but I have to say... Luna best princess! Till your next reaction, peace ✌

      Thank you so much for the comment my friend, I'm very blessed to be able to attract wonderful people like you to my channel, and I'm very glad you enjoyed my journey with clannad and hopefully with more shows to come!
      About Kyoani, I absolutely fell in love with them after watching Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid, and ever since then I wanted to watch a lot of works they had. I actually fully watched through Chuunibyou and really enjoyed that. When I heard about the terrorist attack I was extremely devestated, which is also why the return of Dragon Maid this summer was very emotional to me and made me love the sequel immensly, because I could just feel how much the new crew cared about making it the best they could!
      Also Luna is best princess INDEED! :D

    Its time travel not the afterlife, its based on a game, when you complete all routes and then nagisa you filled the light spheres and you get the happy ending with nagisa alive.
    In this anime, they showed you the not happy ending (but showed you too the little light when he helped his father and other scenes) and after ushios death its a restart (their first meeting, with knowing what happens though) and they skip to the birth showing her alive. You also see that the whole town wishes, granted his request of nagisa surviving the birth of ushio (the flood of little light orbs). Because the little town is alive and all love and want to help each other.

    The hidden world is the afterlife,
    The girl in the hidden world is Ushio,
    The robot in Tomoya,
    Remember the balls of light they was talking about?
    The hidden world was created by Ushio to collect the balls of light (wishes).
    Remember what was said, they're many world's, when Tomoya ran to Nagisa and told her he wanted to be with her no matter what happens he made a wish. That wish transported Tomoya to a world where everyone lived.
    Basically it was for told from the beginning. That is why Nagisa, Ushio and Tomoya lived now happily ever after. Oh btw the only reason Tomoya is the only one who remembers what happened before is because he is the only one who moved to this alternate reality.
