You turned me on to Tolumnias a few years back and I have been a fan ever since. I have 16 in my collection and all but 2 are blooming now. Many have 2 spikes and the colors are oh so beautiful! Thanks Dani :)

Yay new Tolumnia video!! I actually got my first Tolumnia this year and it was Tolumnia Jairak Flyer 'Gules'! I love how vibrant it is too. I also recently got Tolumnia Jairak Flyer 'Ladybug' and the flowers are muuuuch more yellow than that photo shows. The seller I got it from had the same photo you showed here on the listing, but in reality the background wasn't that creamy off-white, it was saturated yellow with red spots. It's really beautiful!

You said that spike grew down towards the glass. Glass is reflective, so maybe the reflection happened to hit the growth tip directly with a leaf or something blocking the overhead light. If that's the case, you can prevent it by putting a less reflective surface under the pot.

I have three Tolumnias that I purchased this year and they are a long way from blooming. It’s nice to see yours and to find out that it may take a while to bloom, so I don’t panic. I am becoming more patient (for the most part) since having orchids. Your videos are always so informative. Thank you. 🇨🇦

I have two Jairak firms (Leopard, Sunset Brownie) that are lightly fragrant, but maybe I just got very lucky. They both have a clean, fresh, linen type of scent, almost reminiscent of smell of those old, cast iron steam radiators.

Hi Danny. I just wanted to share a victory I had with an orchid because of your channel. I have a small Vanilla orchid that I probably paid too much for but I wanted it bad enough. I think I may have over fertilized it or overwatered it because the roots and bottom part of the plant turned black. I thought that's not good. I was ready to toss the orchid but remembered what you said about rerooting in damp sphagnum moss. I thought what have I got to lose? I cut off the dead part and clipped some slightly damp moss to the end and put it in a plastic bag with the top not completely closed so it could breathe. I didn't hold out much hope. But in about 6 weeks I not only had roots I had a vigorous new growth. It is growing now in sphagnum moss and doing very well. I also had a dendrobium that I purchased and went to repot it when I got it home and...no roots. So I did the same thing and now, yes roots and a new growth. Thanks for all you do. Orchids are not only beautiful they are so interesting and challenging.

Danny, Have you ever owned some of the tolumnia species? I picked up Tolumnia variegata, and I thought she was going to flower. It turned into a keiki! I waited on her roots then potted her with the mother (it's sooooo tiny), and they are happily growing side by side. No blooms yet, but I've only had them three months.

Thanks for the nice video! Enjoyed looking at your collection again. I have 4 that are blooming or about to, Spoty, Red Spread, Lady In Red and Pink Lady. The Red Spread I have is more solid red, it doesn't have the nice spotted edges yours does. It's a very reliable bloomer and usually has branches on the same spike so it blooms for a long time. The Spoty I have is probably my fav. It has very long spikes over 12 inches, also a faithful bloomer. Cheers from Canada!

So pretty, Danny! Have you ever had an Ionopsis? I recently got an Ionopsis Utricularioides which I believe is similar to a Tolumnia. No blooms yet, though.

I have a few I bought 3 years ago and 2 have given me flower spikes. I'm so excited. I am having trouble finding nurseries that will ship them in the US. I would love more. Thank you for doing a video on them. How do you separate them or do you put them in a larger pot. I have one with very thick leaves and it keeps adding more growth. I lost the name takscfrom my grandsons. They are all jariaks but have very different leaves.

In the US, i have purchased from Hausermans, Natts orchids, and Angels Special (this was on Amazon). I bought blooming size from the first 2. from Angels Special, I ordered 4 Cattleya orchids, they sent 7! They are young and but they are healthy. 😀

I purchase all my tolumnia from Natt's Orchids. Have always gotten great service from them, and really healthy, vigorous plants. I've got 5 in bloom and 2 more in spike right now. 😊

I'm getting a tolumnia in the mail this week, and it would like to put her in a kokodama set up. Is this a good idea?

I don't see why not, as long as it's in an airy medium like spagnum moss: they like bright (but not direct) light, warm temps and to be moist but not wet. Some people let them dry out between waterings but I've found that mine do better when they don't get bone dry or soppy wet. Hope that helps! 😅

These are lovely. My very small collection hasn't outgrown the kitchen window. I'm wondering where people buy their orchids, I live in AZ and there is an orchid association here. I haven't looked into buying orchids from them or anyplace yet but that will be my next step. Will require a display area with artificial light set-up like you have.
