    About time we had a biologist focused channel! As a Microbiologist I love games which bring real scientific concepts and principles into the theme and gameplay. Look forward to seeing how well our thoughts, opinions, and takes on the games you cover align.

    Thank you for creating your channel! I'm also a biologist who loves board games. Judging from the comments section, there are plenty of us lurking in the detritus out there! I'm looking forward to watching your videos for a biologist's eye on nature-themed game reviews!

      I'm glad you found the channel Jay! I've been pleasantly surprised at how many of us there are, and how many have found the channel already. 😃
      My reviews so far have been at the end of my playthrough videos, but they will eventually be separate videos once I'm feeling comfortable enough with doing them. The channel is still evolving, and I encourage feedback to let me know what's working, what isn't, and what else you'd like to see. 🙂

    Wingspan got me into modern board games. Not only do I like to photograph birds, but also it was the first time I learned that there are games that can be played solo. I have 7 games from those I can see behind you, so your channel will likely be a good source for learning about games for me. I encourage you to ramble about biology, it's what I like too.

      Thanks John! I welcome suggestions for upcoming videos - let me know if you see something on my shelf that you would love to see on the channel sooner rather than later! 🙂

      @@bitsandbiology I just received my copy of the (very small) KS game "Rainforest: Plants of the Pacific Northwest Coast". I love nature card games, so being in the Seattle area - this was a no brainer. I just played through a 3 handed solo game - super cool game about plant succession. I know many of the plants on the 91 plant cards. Wanted to bring to your attention. Unlikely to be sold in stores, but it looks like publisher FireStarter games is selling copies through their website.

    Just found your channel and am so happy to see someone putting such thoughtful work on this mixture of topics. I also teach a variety of biology courses at a small Kansas college. I've been able to incorporate a number of games into my animal behavior, evolution and ecology classes. We've just hired two new faculty members for the fall that share my interests in using games in their biology courses. I will definitely point them in your direction.

      Thanks! That's awesome that you have been able to incorporate games into the classroom! I would eventually like to do one or more interviews or panel discussions about using games in the classroom. It will be at least a few months before I would be able to do something like this, but if you would be interested in participating, or just want to share your experiences (no worries if you don't!), you can let me know via email (bitsandbiology@gmail.com) or if you are on BGG, you can send me a Geekmail, my username is lizmari. I also have a Discord server (link in description) with a dedicated space for discussing games in the classroom; not many people have joined yet, but I'm hoping that will change as more people discover the channel. 🙂

    Just recently found out about your channel and I've been watching a few of your videos. I love the comments you add from the biology/science perspective! As a biologist by education (working in the administration of a natural resource management organization), I am particularly drawn to games with a biology/science setting, I especially love when the mechanisms feel tied to the subject matter.
    I first learned of your channel through my BGG notifications through your post of the Birdwatcher solo playthrough. I searched my FB feeds and didn't find you mentioned. I'm hoping you'd be ok with me sharing your channel there.

      I'm glad you are enjoying the videos! And I would love it if you shared the channel on FB! Thanks! I do have a FB page, but I haven't spent the time I need to really get it set up properly - it is on my list of things to do. 🙂

    What an interesting way to combine two of your interests! I just watched this first introduction to the channel and plan to view some of your others. Appreciate your perspective since I have noticed that my family too has been trying to link our board gaming to “nature-themed” interests. Games such as Cascadia, Wingspan, Parks, Endangered… and even possible ones like Earth, Terraforming Mars, Viticulture, etc. Good luck and thanks!

    • @bitsandbiology
      @bitsandbiology  3 месяца назад

      Thank you! I still need to play Endangered - it's on my wish list! I have thought it might be fun to cover Viticulture and talk about the science of wine making or maybe vineyard ecology. 🙂

      @@bitsandbiology For Endangered, the group has to be in the right mindset. It can be an intense strategy game! My daughter loves Viticulture and she is good about keeping all the various elements in check for when needed - now,if we could only get her that enthused about actual yard work! Lol. Have fun!

    My daughter is also a biologist and she helped me with some of the concepts of Weather Machine. Even being a heavy game, you may enjoy the science part, where you have to research to collect data, you may cite other player research’s and you need to fix a machine that is not working well.

    • @bitsandbiology

      Weather Machine is one of my favorite games! My filming table is too small right now to feature it on the channel, but we will be building a slightly larger table soon, and I will definitely film a Weather Machine video in the not too distant future. I love the thematic integration of Weather Machine; finding out your daughter is a biologist, it makes sense that the process of science is so well done in the game!

    The best science based game I have played lately is Daybreak. Great solo or co op game that applies tension of cascading failure. Really wonderful eco friendly production as well.

    • @bitsandbiology
      @bitsandbiology  2 месяца назад +1

      I'm really wanting to play Daybreak! I went a little crazy with buying board games the past couple of months, so I haven't managed to talk myself into that one yet, but it's only a matter of time (probably Boardlandia's next 10% sale, lol). It got a very favorable review from a climate scientist on BGG, and I'm thinking it might be fun to try a collaborative review with her of some sort if she is interested. It will take a little learning about how to pull off something like that, but I think I will have time once the summer semester is underway. 🙂

      @@bitsandbiology yeah it is easy to justify buying too many games when it is for the channel:) This game though will be a must for your channel eventually. I love the idea of the collaboration with the climate scientist! I would watch it.

      Yes, more science please! I’m not a biologist, but the only games that I own teach me something about this world we live in and inspire me to learn more. In addition to being educational, the games I buy must be beautiful and nature or travel themed. Some of my favorites are Meadow, Keystone: North America, Honey Buzz, Wingspan, Forest Shuffle, Leaf, Trekking the World, Trekking through History, and World Wonders. I cannot wait to get Botany because it has it all: educational, beautiful, nature themed, and travel themed.
      Thank you for creating a RUclips channel that covers educational nature games.

    Nice to someone else focus on a theme that fits with what they do in real life. Animal board games are my focus, but you have a broader spectrum with biology.
    Might I suggest you look into cardline animals. The theme of the game is focused on the weight, length and lifespan of animals, which is a very biological subject.

      @@bitsandbiology you’ll find that the mechanisms go well with the theme. Also assuming that you haven’t that haven’t watched it yet, I’ve got a video to help with the iconography, also Rodney smith on watch it played did a very good job explaining the game as well.
