- The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department is assuring motorists that they don't have to pay outstanding fines at roadblocks.
However, JMPD spokesperson, Xolani Fihla is advising motorist to utilise this option.

Nope, they keep you there and say they will impound your car until you pay a bribe. Then you sit there for a while and they let you go
When I explained this to a JMPD officer on Winnie Mandela and uranium I was sworn at on multiple occasions! Complete waste of productivity from the JMPD while taxis do as they please on the exact same road on a daily basis! Complete and utter bullshit!
Nope, get taxis to drive like normal, fix potholes, streetlights and fine taxis like the rest of us. Go steal somewhere else.
Is it only the taxis' duty to drive normally or is it the duty of all drivers? I've seen a great many times where people will break several road laws and endanger many other lives just so they can catch up to that one taxi that merged in front of them and give that taxi driver hand signals informing him that he is a bad driver.
The law applies to everyone, including you. When you yield at a stop, you must be fined. If you exit a traffic circle without signaling, you must be fined. If you overtake on a solid barrier line, you must be fined. If you have a crack on an of your windows, you must be fined. and if you have your cellphone or food or any item in your hand while driving, your car must be impounded.
Appearance time, you can not be forced to plead guilty and pay a fine if you have not been given the opportunity to defend yourself. So in my eyes, the traffic departments are acting as mafias, demanding payment and ingoring the process of the legal system.
Is this a friendly way of saying bribes are a thing of the past? 😂😂😂
Stop taxis aswell please they have many fines why must we pay if taxis don't pay theirs ..is there other law for the taxis ??

Tell that to all your metro officer's, they don't know the law but want to enforce it. Is it not against the law to withhold the vehicles license if the , vehicles owner he as outstanding fines. Speak about that.thx

Where in the law does it give any municipality the authority to withhold issuing of your vehicle or driving licence because of outstanding fines? When you receive a summons to appear in court, you have the right to appear on that date to defend your alleged actions. If the court postpones that date for whatever reason and your drivers or vehicle license expires within that court app
Just pay your fines moegoe.

Mu brother,remember jmpd is now using a new system called AARTO instead of your normal section 56 ( written notice to appear in court), with aarto with every traffic fine (and unpaid fines) you get,you will accumulate demerit points which will lead to the suspension or cancelation of your driving license. Remember not all municipalities are using aarto,eg EMPD and other municipalities, so you will definitely be arrested in those municipalities if you there is a warrant of arrest due to unpaid or uncontested fines
@ntselelentse9962, the demerit system is not yet in force. It will kick off in 2025. It is a national system so JMPD can't willy-nilly implement it when they feel like it.
