Rupert Murdoch wants to alter the terms of an irrevocable trust to give total control of his family's media empire to only one of his four children: Lachlan Murdoch, his eldest son and chosen heir.
The 93-year-old billionaire media mogul announced earlier this year he would be stepping as chairman of News Corporation, which owns Fox News and the Wall Street Journal.

I THINK that the Murdoch empire has become incredibly rich because of the importance that lies, half-truths, and disinformation play in the lives of so many people. It's vital to the Murdoch family's wealth that the flow of money that distortion of the truth brings into the organization be maintained by someone willing to continue to broadcast that form of "news". There are other media networks such as Fox News and One American News competing with the Murdoch organization for the wealth that distorting the truth can obtain. If the Murdoch empire wants to maintain its position of dominance in broadcasting disinformation, it must continue to improve its ability to distort the truth.

Lachlan is more likely to operate the company like his father. He would fully support Trump and MAGA in their network of companies even though they personally dislike him.
James has previously donated to Biden and he has taken issue with how climate change is covered by News Corp. Rupert probably thinks James and the others will change the direction and ideology of the company.
