    I'm not much of a pick player myself, but something about the sound of a jazz bass played with a pick is heaven to my ears. Really love the finish on this bass as well. Nice work!

    The best 34” scale B-string that I’ve personally tried is the Sterling Ray 35. I don’t know how it sounds so good, but it just does.

      I think the 6 screw neck attachment makes a huge difference vs. the 4 screws that Fender uses

    I just got one of these, the exact model and color you are showing. I also just got a BADASS V bridge, which I'm planning to put.on soon, and restring with RotoSound round wound Stainless steel Swing 66 regulars. it's pretty bulky from what I'm used to, but the C neck makes the beck easier on my fingers. In general, I'm pleased. I have 3 other 5-string active basses, 2 with a mid and 1 without. Probably since the Jazz is new and I'm getting used to it, if I had to play tonight, I'd take my other bass without the mid control and use that, simply because it's very comfortable in my hands, and it also has good growl.

    For the record, the nut width on these is 1.875", not 1.75'. Or put in metric, 47.6mm, not 44.4mm. Small difference on paper, huge in the hand.
    Fender fivers are some of the wider ones out there. Just for a quick reference, a Musicman 5 is around 1.75, this jazz is considerably wider, play them side by side and you'll feel the difference instantly.
    Ty for the great content!

    Nice, but overpriced for what it is.
    It's easier to swallow a QC issue from a Squier because of the cost. Having to mod a bass over $1k isn't great.

    The standard wound .125 b string is probably more to blame for the less than stellar response than the instrument ifyou get a taper-wound .135 round wound, or ditch the round wounds for D'addario chromes with the .132 flat wound you may find the b string has adequate relative tension to the other strings

    I purchased this bass about two months ago in the Cosmic Green color and I’m still trying to love it. I want to love it but I just don’t. It feels GREAT but it sounds hollow to me! I have a little project jazz bass in the same wood combination that I put together and it bites and cuts thru the mix like crazy! I’m hoping that an Audere preamp will help. Don’t know… We’ll see… 🤷🏽‍♂️

    I tried one of these alongside a Squier affinity jazz v. The low b is equally bad on both, even if the tone, fit and finish on the player plus is better.
    It's possible to make a low b work in standard scale, and there's a couple of tricks to do it. One of these is a string through body, a strong 6 bolt neck joint, and hex core strings. Fender does none of these things.

    • @bassyey
      @bassyey 2 года назад

      Agree. B string on these style of builds just sucks. Doesn't matter what brand. They need to do those things. But if it's any like this traditional build style, it's trash.

    • @desertdrives7482
      @desertdrives7482 2 года назад

      @@bassyey harley benton actually makes a decent traditional style 5 string with a decent low B in 34" scale in the mp5eb. Abs it uses all of these tricks, plus zero fret to cheat some extra scale length.

    • @TheBassChannel
      @TheBassChannel  8 месяцев назад

      That doesn't compute. Chuck's beloved Bandito bass is a Fender... the Fenders most-frequently featured on the channel (like the seafoam green PJ) belong to Chris even though he's a Gibson man usually... Dave's even got a Squier in his rack... If we have anything against Fender at all, it would be that for the same money, sometimes other brands have offerings that we like more. And we aren't even in agreement internally about that, much of the time.
