- The first trailer for the Matrix 4, The Matrix Resurrections, the first movie in the franchise since 2003's The Matrix Revolutions, has arrived and it's jam-packed with pretty much everything you love about the original films, except Laurence Fishburne.
There's a lot to dig through in this trailer, like Neo's new powers, the white rabbit tattoo, and Trinity and Thomas' reunion but thankfully we've got the time to sift through all of the little details for you. From returning characters, to new cast members potentially taking over roles previously played by someone else, to even a little déjà vu, there is a lot we need to talk about.
We're going to take apart this trailer layer by layer and see what we can learn about the new film and what it wants us to remember about the other three movies in the franchise.

Rubber Duck is a reference to "Rubber Duck Debugging" in coding, it means something like explainning code line by line to a rubber duck to find eventual bugs.
also, in Tinity reflexions/projections/ripples there is 2 faces that are not hers, but of an asian female
Yeah, what I was thinking... that jumped out at me as well, and it's probably the duck's significance.
Programmers use rubber ducks to and speak with them in an attempt to figure out coding bugs (seriously).
If Neo speaks to the duck in the movie, we'll know for sure.

In the second matrix they said it was a cycle and he wasnt the first Neo. I believe this is the next version of Neo, one were he took the blue pill instead, but cant escape destiny.
But Neo broke the cycle in the third movie.

My guesses so far -
The Machines saved Neo after the events of the first movie. Why is anyone's guess at this point but I think the Machines are fighting to keep him "asleep" going so far as to re-insert Trinity back in to his life who is likely a re-cloned version of her. Her clone is hooked up to the machines (seen in the trailer) but in the Matrix she's been made the same age as Neo. But there seems to be another battle waging against those who are "awake" and they're trying to (once again) get to Neo - my guess - the Machines are fighting each other. Anyone seen the show Person of Interest? There was a good "Machine" and a bad "Machine". The Machines originally made peace but I suspect theres a new group that no longer wants this. So now Neo has full recollection (once he stops taking his pills he poured out) of what transpired before as well as how powerful he is. Trinity and Morpheus were cloned by they Machines as they both died (Morpheus died a year later in the online game) - likely as fail safes in case they were needed again hence why he's younger now
Neo's therapist is a program meant to keep Neo in check - the girl with the Alice in Wonderland book "might be" Sati - back to try and help Neo jog his memory and realize the war he's in the middle of and whats been happening since he's been "asleep" for 20 years.
Neo had to be reinstalled back into the Matrix so to speak because he carries a portion of the source code, he’s an anomaly that’s needed. He’s been part of a cycle going on for hundreds of years. I almost look for Trinity to have been reborn because of Neo’s influence, that a part of her imprinted onto him, with him being the one, and that influenced her rebirth into the Matrix when his code was disseminated back into it. Just a theory. If not, she could have been recreated by the machines as a way to use her against him if need be. I think too that his psychiatrist(Neil Patrick Harris) is the Architect, the father of the Matrix and prescribed him these blue pills. Keeping close watch over him, trying to keep him in regulation. I’d even go so far as to theorize that this “Morpheus” could turn out to be the Oracle herself this time. I hope the plot is complicated and we’re not all guessing for nothing anyway lol.
I think the machines saved Trinity as well as the two are located in the same place in the clip where they are hooked up being fixed and maintained by machines. I definitely think that Chopra-Jonas is Sati but that she is also the newest Oracle. Sati was after all taken in by The Oracle.
Neo and Trinity were saved and uploaded into the next generation of the matrix, the different person Neo sees in the mirror is the real version of Neo in the next version, but he sees old as the old consciousness was uploaded. It might explain why new Morpheus looks different, old Morpheus didn’t die in the machine city so they didn’t upload his consciousness.
I was so disappointed when they pulled Person of Interest. I was really hoping Netflix would pick it up and at least make a final season.

I hope phones play just as big a role in this one. Also, check out NPH's blue glasses. Totally a representation of how he's keeping the blue pill filter on Neo's vision. The "New Oracle" is wearing red glasses, representing Neo's transition after taking the red pill. Last "Some kind of telekinetic power" Neo has is his control over the matrix code he's always had...
the blue glasses is too much on the nose (no pun intended) like a lot of symbolism that doesn't really feel subtle anymore

Fun Fact; that group flight pattern is actually found in nature. In the US, flocks of starlings move like that. The name for that phenomena is called a murmuration
Some talked about the glasses and the butterfly pictures among a multitude of other things, I think the bird thing was too obvious since Neo looked directly at them.
6:17 have you noticed that in background there is a Neo during the scene from first Matrix movie when he touches the mirror and he’s signal is being „traced”?

After reading many takes on here, I also like the idea of NEO using his power to become an architect himself, and missing Trinity so badly, actually deciding to remake a matrix where he is able to live a life within the Matrix with Trinity.
However, NEO's nature is such that he can't help but try and 'see behind the curtain' and break free regardless of the intention to live in 'blissful ignorance'.
That would be a wild outcome. Transcendent past being just the One and becoming basically God of the Matrix itself. Some coexistence agreement where the Matrix exists and the machines can live off of the humans for energy but he makes the rules of the Matrix and forces the machines out. Subverting half their control over the human race and being even.

How could you not include the reference to Carroll's "Through The Looking Glass" as Neo walks through the Mirror? The book is a sequel to Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, and ends with the line ~ Life... What is it, but a dream?

A character in Neo's mirror looks like Agent Smith (Hugo Weaving). He's not on the list of cast members, but it seems he makes a small appearance.
Mr. Smith mentions In the first “The Matrix” that there were other Matrix before the one we know. I believe “The Matrix: Resurrections” Is both a sequel and a prequel and that some of what we see here Is actually set before the first film and after the events of the trilogy.

idc if its like the first matrix. I think is awesome so far! Am 44 and saw the first one in the theater. Only old ones like us understand.
It would actually stand to reason for the events to happen closely to how they did before, to set up the idea of this ever-going cycle. With Neo appearing to be a lot more powerful early on this time, I could see it being a plot where the cycle is continuing but Neo is far more advanced than he should be and with different motivations. Causing the machines to change the situation out of fear and confusion, giving us a 2 and 3 to this new trilogy(if that’s what it is) with completely different events transpiring this time. Begin the same then erupt into something much more than before.
I saw Matrix 1 when I was 5. I am 26 now and boy am I excited for this. With right plot and good writing this could be mind blowing. Or woke. Hoping that it won't be a cash-grab attempt but a true touch of love like Bladerunner 2049.
@@darkprinceofdorne Everything is there for them to be able to make this something special and I hope too that’s what they do with it. And Bladerunner 2049 is highly underrated, it was true to the original and was a really good movie.

So here is my theory from the trailer, I believe the machines have neo and Trinity's bodies alive and well secluded from the other fields of pods. Thomas Anderson is now a video game designer who helped create a game called The matrix that everyone loves and plays. Neil Patrick Harris is the main antagonist and has been keeping neo suppressed and believing he is not really the one, and that it's all a video game. Neo is with a different shell or residual self image to keep him from realizing who he is. Same with Trinity because when she is screaming in the trailer you see a different woman on both sides of her. Eventually Neo and Trinity both will have the powers of the one and defeat Neil patrick harris army of mind controlled people. I think it would be cool if Neo and Trinity both become the new architect and Oracle to watch over The matrix and keep the peace between worlds.
They want to breed them basically?

Imagine this as a Theory. The subconscious of Neo who was put back in the Matrix has one main goal. To bring Trinity back to life. To manifest her in the Matrix and somehow bring her back to the real world. Based on the premise of “Love” as mentioned in the previous movies. Maybe that’s one of the plots of the story 😎

I have been living under a covid rock for two long. I just found out about the 4th Matix. Red pill, nope I will take the Red Mushrooms and call me Alice while I watch the trailer ☺
The Oracle told Neo on the 1st movie that he wasn’t the One, and perhaps waiting for his next life. This movie could be Neo’s next life where he finally ends the Matrix.
I always believed that it was because at that point he wasn't. He had to die so the anomaly code could be incorporated into his own code.
I believe we are seeing the 7th version of the Matrix in this movie. When Neo saw the Oracle for the first time she told him that he had the gift but that he was waiting on something. Neo then asked her on what? She then replied your next life maybe, who knows. Neo never believed that he was the one through the entire trilogy. I believe this film is basically starting the same way the first movie started but this time he believes he is the one which would explain why things are the same yet different. In the first movie Neo looses the fight with Morpheus in the Dojo because he didn't believe he could win. In the new trailer he hits him so hard the Dojo explodes.
Also when Neo meets the oracle the second time they talk about programs and their purpose. How every program is meant to control something. Why do we have a new Morpheus when Laurence Fishburne is available? I know this hypothesis is way out there but what if Morpheus and other helpful characters really aren't there to help Neo but rather they are another form of machine program control. Rather than letting Neo loose in the Matrix like a bull in a china store. The machines use program Morpheus to guide the One along a predetermined path that always leads to failure.
I don't care that Lawrence Fishburne is not here. I really like Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and also Jonathan Groff! Very excited to see this!
Seeing them being shot at through a screen that is split with a scene from Neo in the Original Matrix after taking the pill leads me to conclude that possibly the original Matrix movie is presented as a movie within the new simulation. Guess we will find out in a few months.

Rubber duck refers to software engineering; “rubber duck debugging” you explain the code line by line trying to match what you want it to do with what it’s doing and fixing the problem
So in this context it’s a reference to the first movie where he was a programmer/hacker. Symbolizing he he’s trying to fix an issue/problem/bug in his head

The movie playing in the background of the club scene has strong references to the entire concept of the Matrix taken from Plato’s Allegory of the Cave. The prisoners (people who do not want to be unplugged) live their entire lives in the cave and are only able to see shadows they can only see the back wall of their cave. They see shadows on the wall of the cave that are cast by objects being moved between a large fire behind them and the wall in front of them (theatre screen)... or our modern day television. They are oblivious to anything real or truth until they leave the cave (matrix). The cave is your mind.

I read a theory too that he may be inhabiting someone else’s persona. Similar to what the agents do and that reflection may be the person who’s avatar he’s occupying.
Don’t forget the butterfly’s 🦋 in the therapists office. They represent transformation. That could be in reference to the director or to Neo or both.
Butterflies are symbolism for mind control, especially purple ones, & are commonly found throughout movies. Look into monarch programming & MK-Ultra.
They speak volumes to us through tv & movies that most think are merely "sci-fi" with no real meaning. They are not called programs for nothing. Shalom
The directors debunked the "dream within a dream" take back when the sequels were released...so unless they've just decided to go in a new direction now, I doubt that's the case.
Did they? Well, if that's the case, we're going to need a damned good explanation for how Trinity is alive in the real world here (which I didn't notice until this break down.)

@@GoSolar Trinity “died” in the real world from our point of view, but maybe her brain was not dead and the machines hooked her back up (maybe the Architect’s orders) to continue this saga and being by Neo’s side the whole time. I didn’t notice Trinity in this trailer being in the real world, so that’s how I arrived at my opinion.

They shouldn't have let Neo perform looking like John Wick. They should have kept the same short hair and clean face, that was his digital projected image of himself.
As with all people, our digitally projected residual self image ages over time.

I'm getting more san Junipero vibes. like neo is dead and his conciseness is upload into the matrix. he was taken by the machine to add a human element into the new matrix. he takes the pills so he doesn't reject this reality. trinity is cloned by the resistance so they can trigger neo's curiosity/memory.

The original actor for the Merovingian is listed as starring in M4 on IMDB. Groff's character listing is still blank. It was accidentally revealed on the IMDB cast list months ago then erased who NPH is playing and is someone else. Since the latest trailer IMDB has re-revealed some of who is playing who. Watch trailer closely the blue pills are called Ontolofloxin which translates to anti-pondering existence/reality.

I have a strong inkling that Hugo Weaving is the double reflection in the mirror..Same hair style and beard as current Hugo Weaving.
The last film ended with Neo allowing Agent Smith to copy himself into him(however that should be said)..even though he was deleted by the machines, it completely plausible that a piece of him could be present in Neo’s coding so to speak, like a dormant virus.

He was always able to stop and redirect ammunition away from him. This movie is really nothing like the first one, cuz I literally just watched the first one yesterday. They also hinted at there being more than one Matrix simulation. So why is that a surprise? Also, if you played the Matrix Online (which is a Canon part of the story , you'd know why Morphius isn't in this one.

All theories I’ve seen so far suggest Priyanka Chopra is the new Oracle. But what if she’s a grown up version of Sati from Revolutions? She was left in the care of The Oracle and took great interest in Neo, even creating a sunset for him at the end. Just a thought…combination of the two maybe?! Certainly will be interesting to find out…

So my speculation, the older version of Thomas Anderson See's of himself in the mirror, Isn't him at all, it was his previous incarnation, the first, 1. The original person who figured out how to do whatever they wanted in the Matrix.
There's also a new orange Matrix code going upwards. Resurrections....
Thomas Anderson is an actor in the Matrix film and Jonathon Groff is his Agent. The events of the film is used to make him believe the events he experienced is not his memories, but rather the film itself.
That would be pretty cool. Would explain the scenes from the first movie being projected on the club walls too.
Also in the bathtub scene that's a pretty swanky bathroom... high rise, freestanding tub, very different from his former life in the first Matrix movie. Would be in line with an actor who gets paid as well as the movie being shown on the big screen

In the 3rd movie, Metalhead sends a shock thru Neo to kill Smith. In the process Neo unfortunately dies... But is Neo too much of an anomaly that he cannot be deleted?... And was just transfered to another section of the matrix, one for programs that are too corrupt to delete? Thus, what we are seeing is Neo, waking up from death and in a version of the matrix tailor fit for him? One that can keep him at bay and in control?
If I remember correctly, Neo has a portion of the source code for the Matrix itself in him, so the Architect and machines need him to exist and inside the Matrix in order for the Matrix to exist

You didn't even touch on the fact that footage from the first Matrix movie is projected on the screen that they fire a missile through? Then at the end of the end of the trailer when the executive type mentions going back The Matrix, as if in this iteration of the matrix, "The Matrix" exists as some type of consumable media which may have been created by none other than Thomas Anderson, who now lives and works in swanky downtown San Francisco.
Not sure why Trinity and Neo are alive but I've had a thought since the ending of the first trilogy. Remember that smith was able to transcend from the machine world into the real world? I think maybe neo and trinity were always actually computer programs created by the Oracle program. Remember she was the program that came up with the original solution of "the one" to begin with and neo even carried the key part of the code of the matrix. To me this makes the most sense.

What it feels like,
1>Trinity is dead in reality. It's just a copy version of her that people from zion saved and loaded in matrix to help Neo remember everything.
2>Trinity dead and Neo taken by machines in the energy capsule.
3>Matrix rebooted again.
4>It's the new generation of Zion that's seeking out the help of the One.
