In Serbia, food production is not industrialized like in the west! All foods are 'farm-fresh' and 'farmers markets' are cheaper than store-bought foods - completely opposite than in the west. Furthermore, the soil in the Balkans is not 'nutrients exhausted' like the farmland in the west where the goal was to maximize the yield. Also, the GMO foods are banned in Serbia!

Thank you for sharing your experience. In Serbia, there are also obese / overweight people,. but much less than in West Europe and US. Unfortunately, each year that number is going up, little by little, since the ''computer style'' of life affects it. Many kids and teens starting to use cellphones and computers too early, and the worst thing are computer games! Luckily, here most kids prefers sports like football and basketball firstly, also other sports like swimming, athletics, etc, Yet we need more healthy sports and much less senseless computer games! Some parents are not knowing how computer games can be addictive. The best thing is, just prevent the kids to play those games, As for the dental care, in Serbia we always had good and sometimes excellent dental care, even in public sector, let alone in privately owned sector, where you can get highest service for affordable price. We already have big influx of customers from other countries coming here for dental service (''Medicine related tourism'') especially from EU and US , Serbia is the right place to solve all of your dental problems!

I'm a 90s baby, so I remember only 1 friend from childhood being overweight, but now it's more common to see more overweight/obese children, which is so sad. As for video games, I agree that it's an addiction, but glad to see that most kids prefer sports and playing outside. I remember it being a punishment not to be able to play outside, now kids in the US don't play outside as much...as for dental services in Serbia, it can a lot of potential to be a medical tourism hub.

I thought you are much younger,at most 26-28, honestly. Living abroad, for sure, is good for you. Universal health care in Serbia, going to be better in time. I remember how it was 10-15 years ago,no to mention earlier than that. In the future we might face with lacking of MDs , we'll see. It's not so bad, mostly, but it should be better. I know, for a fact, that Serbia provide a lot of innovative medicines for rare diseases,at expense of universal health care. In this or similar cases they really work well.

I grew up being bullied about my MOM’S weight when I was a kid living on military bases. She was and is obese because of her lifestyle choices. She eats so many starches (breads, pastas, etc) and doesn’t exercise. She would always blame me and my siblings for her weight and say “if I didn’t have kids I would be thin!”
I’m now a mom of a toddler and I weigh less (118 lbs) than I did when I was a teenager (125 lbs)! I exercise 5 days a week (cardio), I work from home and I typically eat vegetables (non organic), grilled poultry and I try to avoid Processed foods. Yes the food overall sucks here in the states but you can still lose weight and maintain weight loss WITH A CONSCIOUS EFFORT.
I will say then I was in Serbia, I lost weight without even trying. Like you said, I walked everywhere, I took the bus, the Serbian foods don’t have those nasty chemicals nor are loaded with sugars.

I'm sorry to hear :( Bullying is not okay, but the "obesity crisis" in the US I believe has more to do with lack of access to fresh food, supermarkets, and the American lifestyle. But as I said in my video when I lived in the US for a few month and did eat healthy, walked, cooked all my meals, worked out 7 days a week, I was still gaining weight...there is something wrong with the food.

oh,that's so sad about your childhood. Many of us were gassed by our parents about all kinds of things, sometimes you don't know which things they said were worse than the others, because those ideas they pun in our heads have serious reprecussions for our way of thinking and fears we build for the future. good on you that you figured it out. Knowledge is power. And for what it's worth-your childhood probably taught you WHAT NOT TO DO. Good luck with everything!
