Yeah, waiting TWO MONTHS for any toy to work is ludicrous - this reminds me of rock tumblers, which take at least a month of tumbling rocks and grits inside a very loud toy which needs to be put in the garage to deaden the sound just a little - only to get mediocre results.
@@Luna_shadowI got a hobbyist double barrel rock tumbler for Christmas. I love rocks and minerals, especially geodes. I have my own collection and some pretty rocks my grandma used to collect. I do think rock tumblers could be good for kids who are genuinely interested in this kind of stuff. It gives them something to work on over a period of time since rock tumbling usually has 4 Steps and they can be proud of their results knowing they did it.
Mediocre? Rock tumblers are great. They look awesome if you use stones that will polish up well and do it right. They aren't actually that loud, and while they're not exactly good for impatient kids (i would not consider them to be 'toys', as they can be dangerous on some occasions particularly if you tumble glass which releases gas), if you are a bit older and have the magpie sense to collect shiny rocks, or you like crafts or you're just into it as a hobby, they're super fun. Source: I have two.
That's a very good point! It's possible that test products used another silicone and the mass produced version ended up with something different. I noticed the instructions seem to have been amended from 4 hours (based on various reviews) to 24 hours (other reviews) so they definitely realised something was going wrong.
I don't know much about toy development, but I'm kind of wondering how this got greenlit? Presumably they must have tested it and found that it didn't actually work following the instructions?
I also wonder that! However MGA never had the best track record for DIY toys that genuinely work. Around the same time, they released lots of Poopsie Slime Dolls which were giant unicorns or alpacas where you can feed them powder + water and they poop slime. I got a couple for my daughter in lockdown and they all failed miserably. The most lucrative part of their business is definitely expensive collectibles like Rainbow High or LOL and they don't seem to care that much about the DIYs (at least prior to Miniverse).
@@maqaroonAbout the poopsie, in my experience they tended to work a but better than this kit. The result weren't always there, but it tended to at least give you a decent final product even if it was simple very simple slime. The unicorn dolls were probably among the worst prdoucts, since they were so gimmicky when at the same time smaller craft kits of the same brand were sold at the time that gave the same result without having to play with the useless Unicorn. I think they realized this because they later, started to sell minifigures inside premade slimes, and the alter toys in the series were more about the figurine than the slime itself.
I wonder what would have happened if you used 2 squishy packets instead of 1 while using the method you did for the pink gel. It might’ve filled up the mold.
Yep! I realised this much later and didn't have time to test it out. The only way to get this to work perfectly is to use 2 packets of gel and leave it alone for a VERY long time.

I work with silicones a bit. They are quite expensive, and there are a lot of different kinds depending on what you want the "end feel" to be. They should never take two months to cure - something is wrong. Either the mixture, or people aren't managing to get the components mixed well enough in the bag. Sure, they do have a shelf life, but I have used 10 year old silicone and it usually works fine. Filling a form like that that isn't open anywhere is hard. You would usually want to put it on a vibrating plate or in a vacuum chamber to get the air bubbles out and everything to fill up. What makes the back look uneven on the purple one is that it's full of air bubbles that rose to the top and couldn't get out. Having more silicone or not is a question - what would happen is if you add too much you would get a piece sticking out in the back where it was poured in. That would be very hard to remove and not look too good. Since the hole is so big that might not be great... Really you would want to check when it is just about right and stop pouring, but in this case you can't see anything. So it would be better to underfill just a little bit. I guess where it goes wrong is then you need to be sure everyone gets the same amount out of the container, and all of the moulds are the exact same volume... This is just a stupid product because making silicone moulds is hard. It works in a small format because there's much less air to be trapped in there, much less expensive silicone, and a much simpler mould.
I have a friend who had that exact one in the video, and it failed miserably! I’m not sure if they didn’t know how it worked, but it broke after not long and ended up being a complete waste I also remember Nan mentioning the egg pouch thingy was incredibly hard to pop, especially for a child
I agree! It's so much plastic for single use, but this is also the case with lots of MGA products like LOL doll packaging. They seem to be making progress with Miniverse where the pieces are packaged in paper packets and there aren't many disposable plastic components aside from the ball itself.
Joanna! I have a method i use for making clear, glittery squishies in the microwave with a perfect mochi texture that Id love to see utilized in a video! It makes the most aesthetic peices! You just have to buy either some clear glitter squishies or some clear squishy cubes if you want a totally clear peice (ill warn you, they are a bit harder to find than the glitter squishies but totally worth it!) Cut off any paint to preserve clarity and melt them down! You can even add some extra, loose glitter in before pouring them into the mold if youre quick enough! Just wanted to share this with you because i know you love clear, glittery aesthetic things! Let me know if you plan to use this method in a video because id love to see it! ❤
That sounds great! I actually have a video planned where I'm going to try melting glittery fish bait which I'm almost certain is exactly the same material as clear glittery mochis.
Such a shame. My daughter loves the rainbow jellies and this would be so cool to make. The faces are adoreable. So sad they just didn't improve the kit....
When this prdouct first came out I remeber watching a review from an Italian RUclipsr. Her results were actualy good, but she did nothing particulary diffrent from what you did, guess she just got luky. With that said she wasn't particulary impressed with the kit, stating that it was super hard to use even for an adult, and that it wasn't particulary worth it for a couple of spongy figurines.
You checked the mold after two months but it could very well have been cured before. I agree that 2 months, even two weeks is too long to wait for a kids toy to be ready to play with but I just wanted to point out that you don’t know exactly the amount of time it took. It would be interesting to do a yes opening these at different intervals to get closer to where they cure completely.
I only remember these from the RUclips reviews. I saw like, 4 seperate channels test these things when they first came out and NONE of them worked properly. They all either took too long to cure and came out sticky, were filled with bubbles and holes, or the mold didn't fill properly leaving massive chunks missing. It is 100% for the best that they no longer make these. I can also easily imagine kids putting them in their mouths and stuff; not a good combo with uncured silicone.
My mom got this for me years ago, when I was about 14, and even when I did everything right and as told by the instructions, they never set and were always incomplete in the back
I think you should look at the catch teenieping soft jelly friends next, they’re kinda like Korean rainbow jellies! I also should add that liquid silicone isn’t dangerous to touch, it’s only if you were to eat or inject it. If you do touch it on accident with bare hands, just make sure you wash your hands with soap and warm water (hand sanitizer won’t help get it off of your skin)
I remember seeing these in stores I never bought them because both of my parents still hated slime or anything related but I do remember watching cookie swirl c and other RUclipsrs opening them. Even i saw how messy and easy to fail it was.
Wow, this unlocked a memory for me...I remember getting one for my birthday, I think in 6th grade, and really loved it...at first. Then it started to smell and disintegrate. I put it away and forgot about it for years....
Awhh I remember those I really wanted one when I was younger but my mother was always against getting one because 'they are messy' so I never got one but damn this is nostalgic-✨️
When I was in 2nd grade the whole school had these and it was the thing that if you had it you would be the coolest kid ever they where so fun and I did not care how they turned out I just liked playing around and making it.
WHOAAA the end result on your part is PURE perfection!!! So sad to see what a cute toy could’ve been if it weren’t for such flaws. It’s so weird tho like who approves of the final results ☠️☠️☠️☠️ who decides “yes! Let’s sell this it’s perfect!”
I think the chemicals are just not good for you. Some people might get a skin reaction (I've seen people with crazy rashes after coming in contact with uncured resin)
When I experimented on these years ago (after finding them on clearance), I found that it took a pouch and a half to fill a mold completely, and you had to leave it to cure for a few days, not a few hours. I felt it was a terrible idea for a children's toy, but, if made by an adult, the toys were pretty cute.
They spent way too much time and money fiddling with safety mechanisms instead of focusing on the product’s process and final product, and putting warnings in their instructions. It is 100% for the best that they no longer make these. I can also easily imagine kids putting them in their mouths and stuff; not a good combo with uncured silicone.
i used to watch your channel when i was still in elementary school !! i'm 18 now and it seems i have some catching up to do
I feel so bad for laughing that you accidently locked it again
Oh I definitely remember smooshins
I LOVED WATCHING VIDEOS OF THESE SO MUCH WHEN I WAS LITTLE 😭
I loveee videos like this please make more 🙏💜💜
Just
Wanted too let you know I loooooove your channel ❤
My mom got this for me years ago, when I was about 14, and even when I did everything right and as told by the instructions, they never set and were always incomplete in the back
I remember wanting one of those but I wasn’t allowed 😭😭😭
I think you should look at the catch teenieping soft jelly friends next, they’re kinda like Korean rainbow jellies!
I also should add that liquid silicone isn’t dangerous to touch, it’s only if you were to eat or inject it. If you do touch it on accident with bare hands, just make sure you wash your hands with soap and warm water (hand sanitizer won’t help get it off of your skin)
Omg I've never heard of those before! They look amazing 😍
This toy is from my childhood, this is so cool ❤
I had it when I was small and it worked really well
I remember seeing these in stores I never bought them because both of my parents still hated slime or anything related but I do remember watching cookie swirl c and other RUclipsrs opening them. Even i saw how messy and easy to fail it was.
Wow, this unlocked a memory for me...I remember getting one for my birthday, I think in 6th grade, and really loved it...at first. Then it started to smell and disintegrate. I put it away and forgot about it for years....
Hello I love your videos so cute and I think your videos are so cute and fun to watch ❤
Couldn't you have simply *REMOVED THE BATTERIES* when you accidentally pressed the bow button which triggered a 4-hour waiting period?
These products had some potential it’s sad how they turned out.
I only know this exists because of cookieswirlc
This was nostalgic for me I thought this kit was just something that I made up in my head
I had these!! Though i did get the very first ones when i was younger 😅 THEY WERE SO CUTE!! and actually worked- but still!
I actually used to love shmooshins!! It was a big part of my childhood, but I just forgot the name of it.
OH MY GOSH I REMEMBER THIS!!
😂 turned out looking like every model's fantasy wordrobe apartment! Amazing
i got this as a christmas present a few years ago and i remember how bad it was lol, all of my squishy people had holes and bubbles in them
Wait, I’m confused, what happens if you come in contact with uncurled silicone?
I think the chemicals are just not good for you. Some people might get a skin reaction (I've seen people with crazy rashes after coming in contact with uncured resin)
@@maqaroon oh ok thanks
Oh hey! I remember requesting a video on this :0 this'll be a fun watch!
I remember these coming out and I feel very old
The first one was my childhood 😭
You saying these are “vintage” on the cover makes me feel so old 💀
When I experimented on these years ago (after finding them on clearance), I found that it took a pouch and a half to fill a mold completely, and you had to leave it to cure for a few days, not a few hours. I felt it was a terrible idea for a children's toy, but, if made by an adult, the toys were pretty cute.
