    I went to see Cursed Child in February, and I got the tote bag, Ravenclaw tee, and Cursed Child key chain (I hang it on my lamp in my room). I really liked the play, and I hope that perhaps when the fantastic beasts movies are done that they’ll consider doing that kind of movie where they focus on the stories of the children.

      how about a spoiler review later then? this can be the spoiler-free and those who want to know exactly what you think about that play/script who have read it can enjoy that. Because I do want to know how you feel about... the REALLY fan-ficcy (imo) character in the story.

    I adored CC and for me it is totally cannon! I saw it with original cast on the West End about nine months into the run. I never read the script and thankfully avoided all spoilers. I'm so glad I did, it is totally intended to be seen, not read! I will be seeing it on Broadway in a few months, so I have one question: do they keep the theater open for the entire break between the two parts?

    • @ThePotterCollector
      @ThePotterCollector  6 лет назад +1

      It was quite magical and I didn't read the script (before) or the playbill (during) to avoid spoilers. No. The theatre itself closes but the lobby stays open for a little while. You will need to leave eventually to be let in again. There is just enough time for food in-between. The doors open again at 6:30PM for part two.

    Thank you for your tour and review. The renovation of the Lyric Theatre to be themed with the production at a cost of something like 35.5 million and the cost of mounting this production at 33 million makes this at 68.5 million the most expensive play in Broadway history. The theatre is a vast improvement over what it originally looked like when I saw YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN there ten years ago. Truly beautiful.
    By the way I have trying to create internet buzz by getting J.K. Rowling nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature. It’s a long shot since the committee often times picks brilliant but obscure writers (at least to most members of the general public) and awards Literature’s top Award when the artist/writer is at ‘Death’s Door.’ Doris Lessing was in such poor health a few years ago that she couldn’t even make the relatively short trip from England to Stockholm to receive the Prize. Maybe Ms. Rowling will simply need to age out to 95 before they honor her. They’re my people (look at my last name) but I don’t understand it. And they don’t honor individuals who are dead. You die.....you become ineligible. Check out my website at www.ethansfilmreviews.com.

    So glad you liked it!! I didn’t consider it as much of fan fiction as others, but after watching it I definitely consider it canon. It was so beautiful. The story moved me to tears, especially the 2nd half of part 2. I was completely blown away by the cast, the staging, the music, and the magic. I can’t wait to see it again when it opens in SF.
    I definitely spent a lot for my merch, but my favorites were my Slytherin T-shirt and my Albus wand.

    • @ThePotterCollector
      @ThePotterCollector  6 лет назад

      I am still on the fence about calling it canon, but still loved it! :D Yes, the second half of part 2 was intense! Albus has a VERY cool looking wand. What else did you get?

    • @hpbruin
      @hpbruin 6 лет назад

      The Potter Collector I got the Slytherin pen, pin, lanyard, and T-shirt, Albus’ wand, collector’s program, collector’s plastic cup (from the bar), Cursed Child magnet, Cursed Child bookmark, and a Hogwarts T-shirt. I was debating on getting Scorpius’ wand as well (he was my favorite character) but I just didn’t like the shape of the wand and it didn’t feel right to me so I ended up not purchasing it. What all did you get?

    • @ThePotterCollector
      @ThePotterCollector  6 лет назад

      I agree about the wands. I wasn't much of a fan. For myself, I purchased the Slytherin shirt that didn't say "Slytherin" on it. I probably would have purchased that one but the Cursed Child logo was on the sleeve. :/

Although we were towards the side, I still can't figure out how they do the majority of the stage magic. • @wochenente6977
    @wochenente6977 6 лет назад +24

    See but that's why I think this story should be seen instead of read. When you sit there and read the story and thin it through you notice immediately how full of crap and inconsistent with the rules of the wizarding world that were established in the books it is whereas when you're in the theatre and see how beautifully the building designed, how great the stage design is and how well the actors do their job, you kind of get sucked into this world and blown away by the mere theatre atmosphere that you overlook the fact that at the end of the day the story itself isn't exactly good

    • @ThePotterCollector
      @ThePotterCollector  6 лет назад +2

      Agree that it must be seen and the theatre experience allows you to overlook the inconsistency of the story.

      Christina Matzen same. what helps me with the book is the thought that it wasn't JKR herself who wrote it even though it was indeed based on a story by her. But i always kinda read it as a fun "what might happen 19 years later"-fanfic and not as "JK said so that's why it's canon" actual 8th story. Emotional damage control so to speak :')

    • @emma.328
      @emma.328 5 лет назад

      As a theater junkie I totally agree. This story was meant to be told on a stage, and that is where the production shines! Seeing it on LIVE on stage is a completely different experience and makes it so much better!

I have yet to see it in London, it's on my wish list and I was actually one of them who loved the book because I had the mindset that it was a play first and a book second. I was quite surprised when the second West End cast was announced that people were confused that they had to change the cast after a year or so, I don't know if it's because I'm part of the community of theatre lovers or something but I was a bit like "wow how do they not know that? Hi! Just found your channel tonight. Had you read it prior to seeing it? I’m a bit confused. The number of comments here who all are saying it’s meant to be seen and not read, is it not the same play as what was released to read? I have to be honest, I wish I could unread the books and read them again for the first time but when I read the play I wanted to unread it because I wanted to forget it ever happened. It read to me like the worst possible bit of fan fiction and after reading the comments and hearing your review, I’m concerned that maybe I didn’t read the correct thing. Like when you said it was a sweet story. I can’t make what I read match that. I’m so confused.
    All in all though, I’m really enjoying your channel! Thanks for sharing!!

    Even though JK said to "consider" it canon it might only be a trope to get more people to see the show. I don't think it fits canon too well despite enjoying the play very much. JUST saw it in the UK parts 1-2 same day. Awesome play, but meant for the stage and meant to be left there. Would not like to see this story adapted for the book , or cinematic canon's.

      NZealandRules I think it was just stupid. The time-turner story is just way too absurd. When Voldemort was controlling whole Ministry of Magic I would imagine he would give some of his “close“ death eaters some time turners and he would never die. Or he would just go back in time and change locations of his destroyed horcruxes. The fact that he was such a powerful wizard and he forgot about such a stupid thing is unbelievable. I think the whole time-turner mechanic was implemented in a bad way. I think the script just destroyed one of the best fictionals worlds. I really hate the story of it. But if you enjoyed it good for you I guess.

      YES!! I am glad that it helped you decide. You won't regret it. Sure, there will be some things you'll notice as a Harry Potter fan that are a little strange but if you look past them, it is a wonderful play.

      The Potter Collector Hey, look. The fact that they are doing this live on stage and , apparently , making it work, is enough for me. I'M not so concerned with canon. I just want to be swept away and dazzled. From what you said , that will happen. 😆

    I soooo appreciate this!! I'm going to see the show in October, so to get all of this info ahead of time was really helpful. I'm both excited and apprehensive, as this story isn't canon to me (haven't wanted to read the script), but now I'm a little more hopeful about it. :) Also, completely random question: but is there any parking conveniently close to the theater at all?

    • @ThePotterCollector
      @ThePotterCollector  6 лет назад +1

      I am so glad it was helpful! I figured this is all information people may want to know prior to going. Yes, I was concerned but stick with it. There will be things you won't feel good about but most of it is fantastic. I booked a hotel two blocks away so I did not need a car and don't know where you might park.

      There's plenty of parking garages in the theater district - just be prepared to PAY around $40 for the day.

Also going to the A History of Magic exhibit while I'm in NYC in November. I used to live in NYC (Was born in Queens). I miss it! Can't wait to be back! Definitely dressing up! People call me Ginny 'cause I look like Ginny. I was Ginny for Halloween. :D

    Here’s something that bugged me: Hermione is the minister of magic, then the timeline is changed, so she never married Ron, and now she’s just the Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher, all because she didn’t marry Ron?!

    I personally think cursed child is a disrespect with Harry Potter fans, not because the story is horrendous and terribly written (which it’s) but because the vast majority of the fandom around the world won’t have de opportunity to watch it, even before the pandemic
    A) because some of them don’t have de money to travel to another country
    B) the ones that have, will never make an intercontinental trip to go to the theatre

      The Potter Collector i do want to see the play but as it's rather expensive and not in my area, it's a bit of a stretch. By reading the play I thought it was an interesting storyline but I didn't feel it fit with the Harry Potter we all know so well. I didn't feel they wrote Hermione well enough in a few scenes along with a few other characters, I also didn't like another part of the play but I can't go into extensive detail because of spoilers but it's about a day a certain group of people created in which I don't think that group would have called it what they did out of fear (I hope that made sense). Overall though, I would love to see the play and if I ever got the chance I would but I don't believe I'll see it as canon, I'm sure it'd be fun though!

    I'm just wondering if you have read the rehearsal script book Harry Potter the cursed Child part 1 and part 2? If you have you would notice on the dust cover of the book that JK Rowling help with writing the rehearsal script. So, that would in my opinion make the play Cannon.

    • @ThePotterCollector
      @ThePotterCollector  5 лет назад

      No, and I never will. She helped with the story, aka approved it, but did not write it. Most fans do not consider Cursed Child as canon.

    Since you are such a huge J.K. Rowling fan, I’ll assume you’ve read her other books ( THE CASUAL VACANCY) and the books written under her pseudonym, Robert Galbraith. What do you think?
    Also, have you read the CHRONICLES OF NARNIA by C.S. Lewis? My mother Francoise loved Harry Potter (I used to have the Deluxe Editions shipped to her on day of publication by Barnes and Noble and she would stay up all night finishing the books by morning. How she cried when Dumbledore died.) but she still preferred the Chronicles of NARNIA. The Potter books by the way are deeply religious if you fully understand the metaphorical meanings throughout. Do you know that the White Stag Harry sees (who is actually a personification of himself) is a symbol of Christ? J.K. Rowling was schooled in the Arts and the Humanities and is actually quite religious but she is not overtly forthright about her beliefs, excepting in her writings. She is a true Christian in every sense of the word, just look at her attacks on the heresy of the Trump Administration for proof of this. I just watched your video taped at the Lyric Theatre for the third time. God bless, Ethan

      Sometimes its a dramatic choreographed dance or moving across the stage as though students are walking through the halls.
