The 2011 anime was made the same way a lot of other anime remakes are, they rush a lot of the story because of the mentality: "Everyone watched the old anime, let's just rush to get to what it wasn't already adapted"

@@dazai8348 That's very subjective tho, just because it's closer to the source material it does not mean it's better, HXH its a great example of that, although the manga is great it has a problem of not letting us get to know the characters and rushing through events, for example, i was so confused why Gon liked Killua and was willing to die to save him from his family, since they barely interacted in the manga before that, the 1999 version fixes that by showing filler scenes to develop their bond, same with the tournament in the Hunters exam, all the fights suck there in the manga and Togashi offscreened Kurapika VS Hisoka, the 1999 version makes the fights longer and with totally different choreografy to fix that and makes an entire ep for Kurapika vs Hisoka, the 1999 version is the definition of getting something great and developing its true potential, the 2011 version suffers from just following the manga panel for panel, so filler HAS to exist for a anime adaptation to be sucessful, FMA (2003) its a totally different beast because it's basically its own story.

And no dude, the 2011 remake skipping parts did hurt a lot of the series, for example: Since they skipped Kite's introduction in the first ep they removed every mention of him in the story which makes the plot twist of Kite's hunter license being Ging's not make a lot of sense since Gon already knew it was Ging's license, and by skipping Kite's introduction it leaves people who only watched the 2011 version confused because they don't know who he is and it makes Gon's reaction to his death later in the arc feel forced, you know what the 2011 anime staff did to try to fix that?, that's right, they made an ENTIRE filler episode for Kite to explain his backstory and it's terrible, it also spoils what the chimera ants are, another example is not showing that Mito prohibited Ging from ever talking to Gon, which makes Ging seem way more terrible than he is. And about non-cannon stuff not affecting the main story is completely wrong too, yes some filler are stupid, like the Kite backstory which is boring non canon stuff, but the filler in the 1999 version uses canon material that was rushed in the manga to make the characters develop, like Leorio's backstory, which is canon but was only truly explored in the 1999 version, or Pakunoda's backstory, which is canon but Togashi also skipped (for a long time, he actually showed it in recent chapters). Filler needs to exist in a anime adaptation to actually make the story better, not just lazily adapt the source material.
