Interesting to see the other skaters just standing at the boards & watching while T&D went through their program. I never get tired of seeing them perform Bolero.
Did a tiny bit of research and randomly picked two Gold Medalist Olympians in ice dancing after 1984. I watched their performance and it is true. No other ice dance partnership can surpass T & D’s style and grace. No one. The two other champions I watched were very, very good but Torvill & Dean are on a class of their own.
Sometimes I almost do not want to watch them even when I know I cannot look away. They are so beautiful that it makes my heart ache and tears sting my eyes. Perhaps because their skating is a glimpse of perfection, the unbearably exquisite, too bright a light for mortal eyes.
I'm SOOO glad this has been saved! Imagine having been there that day. Would you have guessed this would become the most famous and popular ice dance of all time? Thanks for posting!
I love how the people who were practicing while Jane and Chris started their routine, just stopped when they realized something very special was going on, and just started watching. It's as if they knew they were in the presence of greatness!
It's the way they caress each other in the Bolero and all their other dances, even when they are supposed to be "fighting", the way they look at each other and smile at each other even during interviews, even 2012. You just can't help thinking that they have so much of the body language of love, you can't believe they aren't actually in love. Just good friends. OK, whatever!
MsLyli Anne Creativity and self expression can make you feel that way! I know it’s hard to believe- they are creating art together and that’s super blissful.
I've never seen this rehearsal before. It seems to me that their speed was greater than it was during their Olympic performance. I thought it was better, except for the emotional content which was greater during the actual performance.
Interesting. BBC always enjoyed showing T&D in practice - for example, Barnum at Worlds, Bolero here, and the Paso Doble CD - thats how obsessed people were! If you showed something like this today you might get a few complaints.
I’m confused. So this routine was NOT choreographed specifically for the olympics, but they started on the ice only in the olympics because of the time limit in the Olympic OR they changed that for another time limit in a different competition?
In all ice dancing competitions, there is / was a 4minute 10 second dancing limit. However, the ISU (people who run all the skating competition) rules stated that timing only begins when a dancer's blade touches the ice. Torvill and Dean exploited this rule from the November 1983 British Championships all the way up to 1984 Worlds - they performed Bolero (with a few minor changes each time) at all of these competitions.
They are in a league of their own. They are hypnotic. Absolute perfection. This couple deserves so many good medals.

No one will ever be as great as they were

I'm finding videos i haven't seen before.
So magical ❤

They are still the best. They absolutely revolutionized the sport and can never be replaced.
wow love watching the practice for Bolero. This is one of my favorite programs that they do. Thanks for sharing this.

Well, I'd also guess that it may have been difficult for the other couples to skate as Jane and Chris were using the entire rink.
This practise session shows why Jayne and Chris are so successful. They are focussed on what they are doing, even in a practise session.
ILOVE THEM . they are amazing nobody will ever come close to how great they were/are. i like how everyone around them all stopped and watched.lol. x x
No equal in greatness. who will even be at par with these two? No one.

even better than on the night, notably the finish. love the way the other skaters stand and gawp. terrific commentary and analysis as well
How is it that I'm enthralled by just a practice session?
I love how everyone on the rink is practicing and then started clearing out and just standing there mesmorized by their routine.
ART & SPORT AT IT'S BEST !
Forever! Never any better that T&D!
Just one watching, I know it why they're LEGEND.
thank you so much for sharing this. they were a wonder that has never been equalled.
Incredable! Amazingly talented!
I love her dress!
Nobody does it better! Never, ever, ever.
I wouldn't even remember the next move or sequence...they are simply great
I loved the commentary on this!! Thank you!!
I love the ending. In the competition Christopher failed and did tummy slide) But here in practice the ending is perfect
How great is this? Thanks so much for posting!
That was AMAZING. I never knew the story behind it so the commentary was wonderful too. Thanks
This is the exact angle the judges would have seen from during the actual performance on 14/2/84
1:06-1:31 so very cool! All their moves are so perfect.

chris dean alone has a presence, a charisma, that demands attention. he and gwendal peizerat are the best male ice dancers ever!!!
Никто и никогда не превзойдет их. Выдающиеся спортсмены с непревзойденным Болеро!
Elena🙌💚😊, I agree with you. Greetings from Poland 🇵🇱. Marzena

Amen to that!!!
@MsLylianne Same. I like ghis version because you can see more of those intimate details than in the olympid version.
By then all the other skaters knew that they were beaten.
A belated blessing to Christ,Happy Birthday!💐🎂🍸
I wish him all the best!Btw,I love this version more!👍😍

Amazing routine as always but dosn't it look a bi different here because it's filmed from the back!

Can anybody tell how i can watch this .
Tells me ..this video is not available.
Love to see it .
Where's the big fluorescent green bird in a nappy?
Well, now I know what the story line is all about...hmmm...don't like is so much. But they are still brilliant skaters.
