I have EoE and can tell you this condition sucks terribly, it's embarrassing, can cause food obstructions at the worst possible moments, and often requires a trip to the ER. I have no health problems otherwise...I'm an athlete and am physically fit. Glucagon is absolutely useless and hospitals need to stop administering it to patients with EoE as it just prolongs the situation and makes matters worse. I've had endoscopies a handful of times because of this obnoxious "allergy," and they generally inflate a ballon-like object to stretch the pipe out during the endoscopy. One of my sons had the misfortune of inheriting EoE from me...he was diagnosed with EoE when he was about 9 yrs old. He is being treated with Dupixent, which has definitely helped. Fortunately for him he had never had to visit the ER with a food bolus obstruction, unlike myself as I've made the trip to the ER several times since I was in my early 20s. For those who deal with this embarrassing condition...before going go to the ER with food stuck in the pipe, try Coca-Cola or yogurt. These have both worked for me on a handful of occasions and averted a trip to the ER which is expensive no matter what type of medical insurance you have.
