Today my sister called with the extremely sad and unexpected news that a beloved older brother of ours passed away this morning. By God's grace, my wife was by my side, and, throughout the day, as I've been processing this loss, one of the many things that has struck me is how blessed I am to have her in my life. How much of a blessing it was that she married me seven years ago. As I mused on that, this song came to mind, so I'm sending her the link. (By the way, for what it's worth, for me, Gladys (& The Pips) are in a category of performers/groups whose talent I appreciated and whose songs I enjoyed when they came on the radio or TV back in the day, but who were not necessarily in my "top tier" of favorites, perhaps because I lacked the maturity and sophistication to truly appreciate them. (Others in that category would include many of the Motown greats as well as others such as Glen Campbell, James Taylor, John Denver, the BeeGees, etc.) In recent years, however, thanks to RUclips, I've been revisiting many of these artists' music and I feel like now I'm able to "hear" them in a way I somehow couldn't before. It's hard to put in words just how gifted and special they were. With Gladys, for example, there is a genuineness and passion in her voice that is truly exceptional. I wish I could say it better!)

My parents are responsible for my love of music. This was one of "their songs." Dad passed away 40 years ago. Mom is still here, thank God, at 85. I'll never forget how they would go dancing; held hands, and played records on the stereo on weekends.

I attended a fabulous Gladys Knight performance in August at the Sweetwater Sound Performance Pavillion. This artist still has a mellifluous voice and gives an exceptional show!

It was 1969 my senior year in high school when I began focusing on the music of Gladys Knight due to "I Heard it Through the Grapevine," which motivated me to buy her recordings: vinyls, 8 tracks, cassettes & CDs. Now, I stream Gladys and the Pips.😊
As a retired English teacher, I was so blessed to have a former student who checked on me during the COVID lockdown drive me to the concert. This concert and the gentleman's kindness brought joy to my heart, and I began to feel a song in my heart again!🤗😷🕊
