Hi. No need charge. It is factory protection. New device 1st power up need connect the charger to start up. This is to ensure power is absolute off during transportation. Kind of safety / precautions.
@@rajivsinha2574 hi. Looking forward your review in dept and comments (base on your multiple experience of other laptops) I already ordered. But take another 1 weeks time to arrive. (Total waiting time 3 weeks)
Keep up the good work! I would love to hear some feedback on the everyday usability: performance, battery life etc. I was really suprised, that you only have 26 subscribers... changing it now to 27. :) Edit: It's not based on the X1, it's the successor of the x390/x395, which have the x2x0-notebooks as predecessors.
How is the 500 nits with PG? I'm very hesitant to get the PG version, I don't have a use case since this will be a personal computer. I've heard consistent reports that the PG makes the display literally a headache. Even when it is off, there is "a weird filtered effect even when the PrivacyGuard feature wasn't on. Kind of like watching a 3D movie without 3D glasses on, but not as extreme. Can't imagine it would be very good for my eyes to stare at for hours, headache inducing."
Is the x13 similar to the x1 carbon build but just a bit smaller? If you are coming from a 14" do you miss the extra size as I'm on an older x1 carbon now and looking for an upgrade and the price of the x13 is much better than the x1 carbon.
Its a bit hard for me to say as I haven't used the 14" X1 Carbon. I will say that its largely depended on what work you do with your laptop. If portability is important, keep your laptops 14" or less. That takes weight into consideration as well. Personally I think 13" is the sweet spot. If however, you're like my friend who is constantly doing video editing at a new location, then he has to sacrifice size and portability for performance. Personally, the 13" Thinkpad is an excellent place for the three pillars: price / performance / portability.
I am still guessing that the privacy guard 500 nits is better than a 400 nits display with a privacy screen filter taped on top of it as my display is dark all the time with the filter taped on it?? Even though you said it seems 20% darker than a regular screen should be is it still clear and a nice display despite this?
Hi Sam, my resounding answer is most definitely yes. When the Privacy Guard is OFF and you're at 75% brightness, its quite visible and the PG isn't too distracting. I will say, the screen is still very very nice when you're at max brightness with PG turned off. I don't believe its as good as the Macbook Pro 13" display however, but with every piece of hardware, there are trade of's, and you have to do your own cost/benefit analysis. Although I haven't used the "400 nits" with Privacy Screen on a laptop before, I can't imagine that it would be anywhere near better than Lenovo's iteration of a 500 nit screen with the ability to have Privacy Guard ON/OFF. Good luck!
@@rajivsinha2574 Excellent! We're required to use a privacy screen and can't wait to do away from the dark black overlay! Appreciate your reply and keep up the great work!
Does the screen show any reduced clarity of display image quality on the sides of the screen you not are looking directly at due to the anti-glare? My X13 Yoga does show reduced clarity over areas you are not directly looking at, especially on white backgrounds. None of my past Thinkpads have ever had this issue.
Enjoyed your video Rajiv! I've been waiting to see this new model. Do you like the 500 nits display when the Privacy Guard is off? And how do you like it when the Privacy Guard feature is turned on? Does it offer privacy on the angles? I'm ready to order mine and was wondering if I should go with that display or another?
Hi Rick. Thanks for watching! If I can be honest, the Privacy Guard has been one of those things which I'm not too crazy about. I'll talk more about this in my review but I didn't care to have PG when ordering. However, the screen nits was higher with the PG at 500 nits so I went ahead and got it. It seems to work well when turned on, if for example... someone was sitting next to me on an airline seat, they would have a very hard time making out whats on my screen with the PG turned on. When turned off however, is a slightly different story. When you turn it off, it never looks OFF. It sort of gives the appearance that it isn't OFF but rather, PG is working at 20% if that makes sense. And unfortunately, it very subtly dims the display so you don't really feel like you're looking at a full 500 nit display. Don't get me wrong, the display still looks nice but its a little bit of a let down. If you get a chance, head to your local Costco or some other big box retail store that has laptops on display. Check on any Macbook Pro. Those displays are magic, 500nits and (I think) 99% sRGB color range and accuracy. They're beautiful. The Lenovo displays are nice, but they are definitely not Macbook Pro nice. Thanks again for your time!
@@rajivsinha2574 Thanks for that info! Tried 400 nits Privacy Guard display (X1 Carbon 7th Gen) and have same feelings. Also angles are worse vs standard displays.
That's tough. However T14s is more modular. You can start with a 16gb stick now and throw another one in down the road. Also the size is bigger at 14" screen. I imagine the battery is slightly bigger. Personally I don't care for my laptops to be modular. I have a desktop PC for that specific thing. If you're using your laptop for work and intend to use it for more than 4 to 5 years, maybe modularity is important for you. Just my 2 cents.
I like this laptop. On the website it says that the ram is soldered and there seems to be a 32gb variant. I would really like to know if maybe there is a chance to upgrade this laptop to 64gb. Right now most of the people are waiting for the ryzen 4800u. But, indeed this 4750 does not the mark. The other laptop to consider is the envy x360 15” which can be upgraded to 64gb of ram but has the ryzen 4700u and has the fan in constantly. There is no perfect laptop around. Too bad I missed the July sales of Lenovo.
I really would not recommend buying directly from Lenovo, I bought mine from Newegg, was over $300 dollars cheaper with the same config, and the lenovo box was in a Newegg box. Other retailers like Amazon also seem to have the X13 for much cheaper, you just cant configure them.
Thanks for the heads up. When I bought it from Lenovo, they were running the Coca Cola promotion at 45% off so the machine I got was $1162, marked down from $2112.
Hello, I recently bought Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen7, 14" FHD IPS, i5-10210U, 8GB, 256GB SSD, W10 Pro UHD Graphics, 400 nits, Backlit KYBD 3 year Warranty for $899.99. So which one is better ? Thinkpad X13 Vs Thinkpad X1 Carbon
If I were you, I would absolutely return the X1 Carbon and get the X13 instead. Way more performance for the dollar. Don't wait until your order is canceled, just order the X13 now and return the X1 later or else you'll miss out on the X13 deal happening right now. Go on my Twitter, I put a link for the X13 deal going on right now. Good luck, make moves quick!
X1 Carbon is probably marginally bigger as it has a 14" screen and a bigger battery. Although I can't give comprehensive details as I don't have the X1 at the moment.
I would not get an X1, the Intel parts and anciently slow ram make is basically obsolete compared to the Ryzen 4000 parts. If you want a 14'', get the T14s (AMD). Has basically the same weight and thinkness as the X1, has a bigger battery, is way cheaper, and will destroy the intel parts in the X1.
Don't quote me but I'm almost certain that the T14 and the X13 share the same motherboard/BIOS setup. I think the only difference is that the T14, as the name implies, uses a 14" screen, is slightly heavier and probably has better battery life as a result of the added space. T14 also comes with the RAM un-soldered unlike the X13 so maybe 'upgradabilty' is better on the T14 as well.
