To Simon regarding your word to the haters: I have never understood people who criticize others for their likes and hobbies. First of all, mind ya damn business. Secondly, there is no age limit to having fun and liking cute things. Thirdly, no one knows your life, and some people (myself included) like to surround ourselves with cute and colorful and happy things to try to balance things out if we are going through a difficult time. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that, or with immersing yourself in something that makes you really happy in an effort to cope or even escape from your problems, if only for a moment. I was once criticized by a coworker for wearing princess peach Vans, a Totoro shirt, and my Pikachu purse. "Aren't you a little too old to be wearing that?" he asked. If only he knew that the only thing keeping me together that day was how cute I felt wearing my favorite things.
Go Simon! Stand on that soapbox and preach. It took me years to realize that as an adult, i could like cute toys and stuffed animals, and still be an adult. Just because you grow up doesnt mean you have to give up the things you enjoy for sports and coffee. (Unless you like thoes things).

I admit falling victim to trying to fit into these expected stereotyped roles because at that time I felt like I was the one in the wrong. That I had to "grow up" and granted, in certian ways i had to (like paying bills), but growing up doesnt mean you have to give up the things you love. In the past two years i have become more honest with myself about my intrests and hobbies and within this past year I have been able more vocal about it with people. Sometimes, i still get looks, but the people who really matter accept it as part of me being me. (Currently I am really into collecting tsum tsums among other things!) Martina actually gave me the courage to be more open about. The house tour video you did really spoke to me. Seeing you surround yourself with things you love and that make you happy, like your mini figurine garden/set, and the pride and love you had in your collection, helped diminish the shame/embarassment i had in mine. If it makes you happy, and your not hurting anybody, why stop your self from being happy? I apologize for this long post, and thank you for responding to my comment. My hope for the both of you is that this day is filled with positive moments!

I’ve never thought you guise fit the image of a “weeaboo”. Idk why some people call you that. You both are interested in the culture (outside of anime culture) and are trying to learn the language instead of just random words. Weeaboos I have known don’t care about actually learning the language, care only about anime culture, so much that they turn down opportunities to experience actual Japanese culture to stay home and watch anime/play games.

Especially in a school or university setting where some students want to study real Japanese culture and language. One time I was still wearing it when I went into work, and when a little bit of smoothie from the smoothie maker hit my face I instinctly rubbed my mouth with my arm, right across my lips and onto the side of my face. It looked like everything came off on my wrist, yet when I checked in the bathroom my lips looked pristine and my cheek was untarnished. Either it's good lipstick, or I'm a wizard. I took my wife to the HK cafe in Seoul and just seeing her excitement was worth being blinded by all that pink. And honestly, by the end, I really enjoyed myself also.
Martina there is the cutest little craft-making shop at Tokyo Germantown (illumination, there's not much German going on there lol). You can put together little crafties and decorations, like the decoration kit you got from Etude in a vid from a while ago. The compact decoration kit. When I saw the craft shop style, I immediately thought of you. I'll try to send pics so it isn't so vague. Or maybe you've already gone!

It's ok to love cute things at any age. I'm 43 and still love and collect Hello Kitty. I received my first Hello Kitty Item somewhere around 1982. It was a desk and stationary set. My grandpa let me pick it out as a birthday gift. Not an occasion goes by without my husband or sons giving me something with Hello Kitty on it. I think I like her so much because she brings back good childhood memories.
I 100% get Martina about this sort of cute, wholesomeness about the cafe and the mascots. I love Rilakkuma so much and it's just that the mascots are so sweet and cute! The background info on them just makes it all the more sweet and, well, wholesome! :) This video warmed my heart with all the cuteness. I love theme cafe's and I love that you both show us what they're like. It is more an experience then the food that they make. And you're right. I've seen lots of themed cafe's on you tube and they have a lot of adults without children there because it can be enjoyed by all. I don't understand why people would sit and watch your video and then call you Weebs. Why are they wasting their time watching? I also like what Simon said about those same people who go crazy over sports, sometimes throwing tantrums and crying when they don't win. They spend so much money on something they like, why can people spend their own money on what they like as well.

I didn’t invent the word of course and I don’t hate weeaboos at all, but I can understand why people can find them to be annoying (I’ve met a few myself who have gotten on my nerves a bit.) But that’s been due to their individual personalities and not necessarily because they are a “weeaboo.”
I also agree that people as of late are especially prone to overreacting to things, especially if it relates to a culture other than their own. But weeaboos, or people who only care about anime/manga if you want to avoid the term, are not doing anything wrong so people should try to not give them a hard time, but at the same time, it’s not something that should be encouraged either? Especially in a school or university setting where some students want to study real Japanese culture and language.
In any case, it is a word that does exist, and I personally don’t think Simon and Martina fit its general definition. That’s all I was saying in my original comment.

I have a couple lipsticks from Colourpop that hold out like that. One time I was still wearing it when I went into work, and when a little bit of smoothie from the smoothie maker hit my face I instinctly rubbed my mouth with my arm, right across my lips and onto the side of my face. It looked like everything came off on my wrist, yet when I checked in the bathroom my lips looked pristine and my cheek was untarnished.
Either it's good lipstick, or I'm a wizard. I wish it was the latter xD

I took my wife to the HK cafe in Seoul and just seeing her excitement was worth being blinded by all that pink. And honestly, by the end, I really enjoyed myself also.
Martina there is the cutest little craft-making shop at Tokyo Germantown (illumination, there's not much German going on there lol). You can put together little crafties and decorations, like the decoration kit you got from Etude in a vid from a while ago. The compact decoration kit. When I saw the craft shop style, I immediately thought of you. I'll try to send pics so it isn't so vague. Or maybe you've already gone!
Please Martina and Simon! Never grow up! I would totally do all these fun stuff in Japan if I were there and I'm 32 years old. Who can resist the cuteness!

It's ok to love cute things at any age. I'm 43 and still love and collect Hello Kitty. I received my first Hello Kitty Item somewhere around 1982. It was a desk and stationary set. My grandpa let me pick it out as a birthday gift. Not an occasion goes by without my husband or sons giving me something with Hello Kitty on it. I think I like her so much because she brings back good childhood memories.

I love theme cafe's and I love that you both show us what they're like. It is more an experience then the food that they make. And you're right. I've seen lots of themed cafe's on you tube and they have a lot of adults without children there because it can be enjoyed by all. I don't understand why people would sit and watch your video and then call you Weebs. Why are they wasting their time watching? I also like what Simon said about those same people who go crazy over sports, sometimes throwing tantrums and crying when they don't win. They spend so much money on something they like, why can people spend their own money on what they like as well.

Yup! They're pansies, and they are edible. You can eat lots of flowers like roses, carnations, lavender, nasturtiums, marigolds, and more. Just make sure they are food grade, heh.
