NOTILL Orchard Grass

Date: 9/16-17/2021
In this video I NOTILL some orchard grass see in the alfalfa field at the house and some areas that were killed this year due to water. Hopefully this will fill out the stand better and improve yield and weed suppression.

I had some sparse spots from drought and this Spring I scratched the ground with a harrow and broadcasted Orchard and Alfalfa and then I fertilized real good. Hope it works.

I plan to try prowl H2O this yr too.. This will be my first attempt… main thing I know is that it goes on real early… like mid February

How much prowl do you use an acre? What temp would be best? Is late Feb. too early to control crabgrass and foxtail? How do you handle Johnson grass?

I’ve never used it before. I read through the label though. I don’t think it matters how early you apply other than it controls by preventing germination. So you have to put it on prior to the weeds and grass germinates. So it depends on what you’re trying control on when you apply it. If you’re trying to control deadnettle or henbit it needs to be applied early or in the fall. It also needs to be incorporated either by tillage or by moisture. So a good rain is needed shortly after application. I plan to try to apply it as early as I can feasibly get on the field. It can also be applied with fertilizer if you’re interested in that.
