Þórsmörk crossa - in Icelandic / Thorsmork crossing in English
This Modified Toyota Landcruiser tried hard, not to become a submarine with captain on board:)
I wouldn`t take a risk of crossing it, as current is very deep and strong, but Icelandic farmer whom lives there, insist that i can do it... his words was - "you got a snorkel, low revs - you can swim :) i have told him that he is absolutely right and I am a skipper - good laugh appeared)
This Landcruiser is about 1950mm high)
His Vehicle was significantly higher (around 300-500mm) and Farmer crossed the river - almost effortless, to show me the path.
and than - i did my move) heart beat, joy, adrenaline and relieve with a proper men's happiness...
Love Iceland for all emotions She`s giving)
But Þórsmörk took its TOLL - it have chosen my drone instead of me)

Lotus car rental? I’m renting it next year. What settings did you use for the crossing? Low range? Diff lock?
Hello!
Yepp, Lotus car rental is amazing, been using them for a few years now,
Just Low range will do, the Car is a Beast, feels very confident in capabilities. would advice to go for platinum insurance with 0 excess.
getting my favourite Horse again. I`m back in ICELAND from 18.12.23 to 08.01.24)
Will start posting adventures soon)
Lotus car rental is one of the few company`s who actually have a snorkel, 35" Tyres and vehicle its self is higher than a normal version of a Landcruiser,
my advice is that dont cross the krossa river on f249. lotus policy spefically mentiones this river crossing won’t be covered by their insurance. specially in this river condition, too risky.
@@PuzzlesoftheWorld I am renting it in July! I always rent from lotus. I hope noone wrecks it before my trip hehe
@@piotrl8198how was it?
Not a Jeep but a Toyota Landcruiser crossing the river😂
Hey, Absolutely right, but...
in Iceland when you`re renting a higher spec 4x4, they call it a Super Jeep, in this particular case manufacturers name is irrelevant.
as @LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD has mentioned in the comment below - the first Landcruiser was literally called a Toyota Jeep and it looked like a wrangler... same ancestry here
You are very skillful at crossing rivers, and you have an excellent vehicle. I think you really were pushing the vehicle to it’s limit, especially between 1:12 and 1:15. I was surprised at how well your vehicle stayed on course, I thought the current would push you sideways much more than it did. Your vehicle is heavy , but that current was very strong. I only crossed the Krossá once, and have told myself I will never do it again. Ég vona að þú festist aldrei í ánni.
Hello!
Couldn`t agree with you more. Its a tricky business,
First i have arrived at that crossing at night in freezing temperature with snow/rain poring down, i had to cross it over as my hotel (Volcano Huts Þórsmörk) was on the other side of the river...
At night it was very, very scary...
Emergency helicopter was around 500 meters away - saving someone else in darkness. (next morning there was a drowned car at that spot)
After considering all pro`s and con`s i have slightly got front of 4x4 up to the level of a bonnet, where it meets a wind screen in the water, the stream of the river moved the car very uncomfortably and kept it tilted sideways, that is the moment when my sailing licence could be required immediately
Luckily i have managed to get this heavy vehicle back on the bank with significant amount of adrenalin in my blood:)
So i driven all the way down to lava museum, as all hotels at 1 o'clock in the morning was shut, spent a night in the car.
In the morning i was driving back on F249, this is my favourite F road in Iceland, right to the end of the road, as you can camp there nicely in beautiful surroundings.
On the way back i have approached desired river crossing again, but fear played in my mind.

Next morning i was behind the steering wheel for 11 hours on F-26 and than F-910 to Askja... the longest and most dangerous road in Iceland...
One of next videos ill show it in full scale,..
after spending a night at Askja peak, in the evening both roads was shut, because of the same storm, that was chasing meon the way to Askja, and flooded the area, maybe it was one of most dangerous conditions in that journey, even for a Super Jeep felt sketchy ...
That was special...
Looks like i was the last person who have swam in Viti with water acidity at 1.5 PH...but that is in next videos)
Ég vona að þú farir aftur á þennan áhugaverða stað sem einu sinni hræddi þig svo mikið!
Ég fer aftur til Íslands í desember og fram í janúar, sjáumst þar)
There is an interesting video on my channel about helping someone...

😂Very Funny! I drive a Toyota Avensis 2013 and that road is my type of road when it rains...and i cross with ease so please do a test of at least One point Six meter depth of flowing water with the Prado.
Word has it the vehicle, and the driver is now part of Icelands new super secret submarine program!😂
TSSHHHH STEVE!!!
What you doing Man - THiS IS A SECRET!!!) keep it low profile) It hasn`t been signed off yet by Icelandic head planning architect ! :)
P.S. - I`M BACK FOR SIGNATURE TO ICELAND FROM 18.12.23 to 08.01.24 for ANOTHER SECRET MISSION and SUBMARINE TESTING)
Can you do exactly the same with the new land rover defender ?Or you recomend this instead of the defender?
Hey Thanks! Just came Back from Iceland that was my 6th big expedition to the Land of Fire, Ice, and Light.
That is interesting question. I was looking in to Rovers it would be fascinating comparison between this two amazing machines - the only problem to do so - Rovers that available for rentals - mostly standard 4x4 vehicles without snorkel, raised suspension and bigger than normal tyres. And the Rovers with modifications are way too expensive and mostly from the previous tech age with manual gear box etc...
After my various situations in very dangerous experiences with this Landcruiser - I had an instant wish to buy a Landcruiser and modify it even higher spec - because Car shows it self as near perfect experience.
As everyone has said NO A JEEP. ITS A TOYOTA PRADO . 🙄

Yeah when’s the last time you got mad a someone calling an off brand facial tissue a Kleenex ?
@@davidheaton6206hello! Nailed it! ;)
That was a deep one! Nicely done. That Land Cruiser is a beast. Is it yours?
Hello ! Thanks!
That place is famous for troubles, so many videos were people get seriously stuck and even unfortunate deaths.
After my trip have been completed, Landcruiser moved in my car ranking - to another level, it called deep Respect, this Vehicle is a life saver.
Apart of multiple crossings, it withstood 11 hour journey on F-26 and than f-910 to Askja.
That is Most dangerous road in Iceland. New video on the way
Will buy one and modify, with a tents and camping gear.
I wouldn`t take a risk of crossing this streaming sea, as current is very deep and strong, but Icelandic farmer whom lives there, insist that i can do it... his words was - "you got a snorkel, low revs - you can swim :) i have told him that he is absolutely right and I am a skipper - good laugh appeared)

Good that the fish finder guids you to the river....
Hello! haha)
I'm not sure if there was any real fish in that River)
But occasionally, stationary metal fish has been found in the glacial rivers of Iceland)
Luckily i didn`t end up of been a fish that time)
Had the windows down. Balls.
In case you need to bail out ! 👍🏻🇬🇧
Hello. Been ruding the same area in a winter time now, in a few days will upload new adventures;)

Calling a Toyota Land Cruiser a "Jeep" is like saying that Freddie Mercury was a rapper.
I call my Landcruiser a Jeep, its just a term for an off road rig does not meant its a Jeep,I know many friends who call their offroaders Jeeps too, don't take it literally
Hey Guys,
Absolutely right,

i would say this trend exist in many country`s - calling 4x4 vehicle a Jeep. And Marketing - got its slice as well.
P.S. And probably these days - Freddie wouldn`t mind to try a new ampluoa as a rapper) Just Joking)
Spot on! :)@@Azureecosse

Thanks for sharing your knowledge! They are looking strikingly similar after World War 2. Toyota should give the same name to a newly released version of Landcruiser :)@@LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD
Hey! Nice video :) I am planning to travel to Iceland again on September and I am thinking about renting exactly that car with Lotus! I saw they have a special insurance for river crossing.
I would love to see the highlands, but I am a bit afraid of those rivers, although it looks like an exciting experience! The bad thing is that I have no idea how to actually learn river crossing, so for now I am looking for videos like this and reading a bit of info on the internet :)
Hey Maria, Thanks! Just came Back from Iceland that was my 6th big expedition to the Land of Fire, Ice, and Light. ill post a few separate videos about River Crossings soon. I have been in to highlands - its amazing but so dangerous even if you are well prepared, So many situations can occur out of nowhere. what have i experienced is flash floods, instant weather change to hurricane conditions, small lava stones becoming a danger with a high winds as they will crush windows, punctures, mechanical issues, towing ropes and issues, no telephone network, lack of fuel - and i can continue going in to the details - but one thing is for sure - this car is a tank, and having it in those situations was a life saving choice, if you need an advice or my routes with a special places in Iceland i can easily share it with you)
Hello, how amazing!! I hope you enjoyed your adventure in the most charming land! I will wait for your next river crossings videos, so hopefully I can learn something from them and get some preparation for my future trip :) And yeah, Icelandic weather can be pretty extreme, although I have not experienced that yet, even if I went there on winter. It was super calm and sunny when I was there on December 2022. I cannot imagine how it gets in the highlands! What a country, it is never the same and it is impossible to get enough of it.
Btw, I would like to get some details about the routes you would reccomend, so I can start preparing in advance. Thanks so much, have a great night/day!
Just like in Australia except without the crocodiles.
Hey John!
haha) with current "climate change trend" you`re never know it might be the case soon)
would love to visit Australia one day, at least it is in my bucket of dreams)
@@PuzzlesoftheWorld: Yes you should, you would enjoy it. Best not to open the door here though.
Haha) only if i would want to give them a descent hug)
i did had e very close interaction with crocs in Cuba, will release a video soon) @@johnwilliams3555

What kind of insurance does the rental company have if customers does river crossings? Or what kind of insurance does the customer have?
Hey Savoy! All info is on lotus rental website when you going through the paperwork.
But obviously all responsibility if you flood the vehicle is on a driver as you have to asses the risks and have to have a plan B if plan A fails.
Conquer the wild side :)
Thanks , this country is a paradise to explore the wild side. Got winter exploration videos . Im i Iceland now, will post soon…
Landcruiser for the win.
Hello! Spot on, yhis vechicle is amazing! Giot a new footage, will upload soon!
The jeep would have fucked out.
Hello. Haven’t tried a Jeep for this fun yett.
But something tells me that you could be right;)
Ok that's impressive.
Hello. Thanks.
In few days will get a winter adventures frim the same area;)
How do you manage to find room in the front for your balls as well! Fair shout to you,no way could I attempt this!
Very nice! Krossa River?
Not that deep but looked impressive
Hello. Next time will try in spring or summer, but there is a risk of becoming a real submarine;)
we literally are driving this car right now. now I understand why the steering wheel is shifted 😂 Buy the way they prohibited to cross that specific river in the rental agreement.
How deep is that river?
If i had that landcruiser err jeep of yours, i would clean it wax it and drive it only on metalled roads
Hello!
100% agree. but...
some times the horse needs to be taken in the wild and than properly tested what its purposely build for)
like a bodybuilder goes to gym to maintain confidence through the sweat and pain, this beast requires same action in wild gym)
Impressive🎉
Thanks, more crazy footage is one the way) stay tuned!
He has not got proper tyre pressure
Tyres need to be deflated yo 50% pressure when on sand then only you can go on dunes or desert safari. Your high tyre pressure is making you dig deep and halt.
Hello.
In principle you right, tyres have to be rightly deflated, but this particular video has no issues with tracktion)
