Great Video...I highly recommend running the rearview camera cabling though the headliner instead of along the bottom trims...as a mechanic I find all sorts of damaged and corroded wires for diy audio systems and even some stock wire harnesses due to spills, weather/rain/snow...

The reason you didn't have any slack for the rear camera is because you channeled the cable wrong. By going all the way down in the front and then up in the rear you were left with no cabling whatsoever. All you had to do was go either directly through the roof liner by taking it off, or going along the roof line on the right.
True, I have a Chrysler Pacifica minivan and put the rear camera at the top of the rear windshield, then routed the wire along the passenger side upper headliner edge/under door trim all the way to the front center camera port. I had to wrap like 3 feet of wire behind my mirror at the end and my van is a longer vehicle I would say. It ended up installing and looking great even with the wire winding, it's hidden behind the mirror.
They’ve mentioned to not use sandisk sd cards and at first I thought it was because they just want you to buy theirs but after seeing this video I’m happy I opted for their sd card. Good video!
Unfortunately, I’ve heard reviews that even VanTrue’s own SD cards encounter the same issues! But I haven’t encountered this issue any other time so far since I made this video. Hopefully that means it was a 1/1,000,000 chance that it happened before and was a fluke but time will tell

I purchased two of these for my sister and parent's cars, the one on my parent's seems to be working fine, had a local radio installer put the cables in place since they know best how to run wires through all cars, the rear camera though seems to be failing, I do hope it just got disconnected but have not been able to check. (Small update, after checking the rear camera plug, yes it was loose, a little electric tape to keep it connected did the trick) Heat is the bane of this camera though, always try to park in the shade and if not possible detach the camera, heat tends to corrupt the SD card and needs to be reformatted for it to work again. If you can, keep one of the AC vents pointing up to keep the camera cool while driving during summer. 👍👍👍
Okay but can you explain deeply about the parking mode? How was it? How much force does it need to turn on? Like a gentle tap on your car would cause N4 to turn on? What about motion detection, how often will it detect?
you've probably had this comment a bunch, but I believe that the rear cam cable is made to run through the headliner of the car so that you can get more of a straight shot back. Mine comes tomorrow so Ill see how easily it goes in the headliner, although I have a mini so I'm sure cable length won't be a issue lol
Got the N4 a couple of months ago with the hard wire kit for £170 Amazon deal. Works great. No need for portable battery pack if you turn motion sensor off and shock sensor on.
I had no length issues with the cable in my Ford Edge. Similar in size to your review vehicle. The only difference was were I ran my cable along the top of the roof liner. I had so much extra cable left over, I found myself tucking away around 5 feet of unused cable. This technique would've been easier for your install as well. Hope this was helpful.
I have a 2017 Toyota highlander. The back camera cable length is fine. You probably lost length by going down to the floorboards then back up to the top of your hatchback. If you run it along the top, you have more then enough cable length (I had a lot left over that I had to tuck into the front headliner) One complaint I have is how hard it is to take the front camera off of the mount (and the cable location). The disconnect mechanism to slide the camera off is very hard. I end up pulling the mount off the windshield all the time. Vantrue could have designed a better disconnect button/slide. I got the GPS mount so that I could mount it as close to the top of the front windshield as I could. Because the cable connection on the GPS mount is to the side. The cable connection on the stock mount is at the very top, poor design. So if you use the stock mount you have to mount it lower on the windshield if you want it directly center. The highlander has a lane assist sensor on the front but I can mount the GPS mount right up underneath that.
I have this exact dash cam and have a 2020 Kia Soul as well!! I ran the cables similar to you but the rear camera I went the other route, through the rubber gasket top side of the door all the way through the back & had so much cable left over & it was more simple, give it a try!
There is a great way to prevent the suction cup from falling off that I learned a long time ago and have been using all my life. Use liquid glycerin. It can be bought at a regular pharmacy. It is usually used to soften the skin of the hands. Apply a small amount of glycerin to a clean and undamaged suction cup and attach it to a clean windshield. Do not be alarmed, at first, the suction cup will easily ride on the glass, but only at the beginning. That's it, your suction cup will hold securely for months, and maybe years, even at very high temperatures.
If you read the instructions. They tell you not to use sandisk or transcend cards in this unit. Something about high speed recording doesn’t always work. So, that’s why you might of had a problem
I hear that very often when people that have this camera, that when they get into an accident and they need to review the footage, the footage isn’t there, it’s corrupted or the sd card is, I believe it’s a problem with Vantrue itself
This is exactly what’s going on with me today I was in an accident today and literally I went to retrieve the video footage and it’s not there! I’m really not happy about this because that was the entire point of getting the cameras ! Like I get that it can help at times but if it’s not doing its job 100% of the time then why have it? That’s the basis of a camera, to be recording 100% of the time. To be the eyes of the car 100% of the time!

I have experienced several repeated failures with sandisk memory cards, won't use them any longer. My much sturdier choice is kingston. Also for GPS capable cameras you don't need to set date and time. Once camera locks onto GPS satts the D & T will auto set. BEST ADVICE is to NOT set your plate/tag number into your dash cam. Use the last 6 or 8 digits of your car ViN. Reason is so many folks post vids online, displaying your plate for all to see, or going through some editing to block it out of vid, and thats annoying. If you need to goto court or you are killed in a horrific crash, the ViN will be just fine 😉
Running rear camera wire overhead between the headliner and roof would be the shortest run. I saw a video of professional dashcam installers do it that way a while back.
I had this dash cam and in the Florida summer heat, the suction cup would fail and the dash cam was always hanging. I wish they would offer a mount with 3m tape.

I had the Vantrue N2 pro also. My battery went out 1 week after the warranty expired. I tried to install a new battery but gave up trying to put back the small screws. Glad in a way because I wanted the new N4. lol

I haven't used the route viewing app yet. Vanntrue also sells an ODB 2 to USB C power adapter that has a built in low voltage cutoff, I ordered one and hope it works for the sentry setup... it was $19.
Great video. GPS looks neat to have but in this case it’s not like it’s real time view on an app or something of the sort. Correct me if I’m wrong, but it seems like the only time you see the gps or the speed is when you review the camera .
I have mine for 2 years, Front facing cam just gave up. Not sure if it's b'coz of the heat.. Just bought another one today, tested it and the back view cam keeps on going on and off. Have to return it😞 hopefully they would replace it w/o giving any run arounds...

I've noticed my old mount from the N2 does not fit the newer N4. They made the rails different. The manual will tell you NOT to use Sandisk sd cards for some reason.
I just had the Vantrue N4 dash cam installed with the hardwire kit. When I turn on or off the car, the camera doesn't turn on or off automatically. I have to do it manually on the camera. I was told by the installer that with the hardwire kit, I can only have it installed to be connected for parking mode or connect it to have it turned on with the ignition, but not both. I was under the impression that I can have it connected hardwired and also to turn on/off with the ignition. Am I wrong or is the installer confused?
That's what I'm trying to find out I need a camera system that records 24/7 to catch the criminal that's damaging my car they're not going to do it when I'm driving it LOL?
Hello, how is the speed shown on your N4? I'm not sure if it's just my unit, but I would be going 50km/h and on my N4 it would only show half of that speed. Is this the same for you? Thanks!
Do you possibly have the camera set to imperial units? I think by default it is set to MPH, not KPH. I would check that. I will note that the camera isn’t 100% accurate with the speed always, mine has differed on occasion by a matter of 5-7MPH (8-11KPH) but not exceeding that amount that I have noticed. Hope this helps!
Can you turn the inside camera off? I would prefer to have that one off when I drive but I would like it on when I park and also will it record 24/7 regardless of whether the car is running or parked? I have someone damaging my vehicle when I'm parked but I don't know where it's happening at?
We have this same exact camera. Our view is very grainy and we cannot view the video on our chrome book. We can hear the audio, however. Any comments, suggestions?
The VanTrue user manual says to NOT use a Sandisk microSD card. Maybe thats why the dash cam didnt record consistently. Just buy the VanTrue microSD card
I had that ongoing issues with Vantrue N2 pro with SD card not showing video footage, it was problem with the current footage not re-looping and deleting old footage. Had to reformat the card from time to time. Your right camera should let you know when it can't save
I think you may have installed the wire right over the front side pillar's airbag, which could prevent it from deploying correctly. In fact I found your video while looking for the right way to remove that trim to pass the wire behind the airbag...
I am using it . My complaint is night mode interior gives me ghost like video . I wish I can get full color video in the night mode for interior . Another problem is it cannot read the license plates right in front of my car - the light glares the plate .

Nice review. I'd just like to confirm something. Did I understand you to say that the FRONT camera produces a brighter, butter colors image if in 1080 mode, rather than 4K mode? A common thing I'm seeing with reviews on this kit is that in the daylight, the interior camera produces, what is to me, a "nicer" image than the front. It's brighter and the colors are much more saturated, so things look natural. I notice the front camera, in 4K mode anyway, seems dimmer and the color is flat. A deal killer for me.
Hi I get the Vantrue n4 dash cam after watching your video but I can only see the footage/video from the dash cam on my desktop it not showing I get can't reed video / don't recognize format I am useing the sandisk card in your video what do you recommend?
Im really leaning on getting the n4 but since I have a Jeep Wrangler unlimited I don’t think the rear camera will be used since I have to lift my glass door up then the hatch itself to access my trunk. I really like the quality on this one over the n2 pro but maybe the n2 pro is better for me since it doesn’t come with the rear camera. Any opinions?
If you got the N4, you could always mount directly onto the glass! It may be harder to hide the cable and make it look pretty though, but I don’t see why you couldn’t do that. If you don’t want to deal with that though, then yes, N2 Pro may be best for you!

I’ve had issues with the “Sd card corrupted” too. I either unplug and replug or turn the truck off and back on if still parked.

You should had routed the rear camera wires along the top of the doors in the seals verses the bottom path.
Headliner is definitely true route to take.

Read the reviews of users who have the VanTrue SD card. They have the exact same issue. VanTrue cards also fail at a substantially higher rate.

I bought a Samsung Evo 256. I was going to get the high endurance but those chips are only U1 and I wanted U3.
Suction cups ore bulky and will drop if your car gets hot. Should have built a 3m backing tape.
I just recently bought the same exact camera. In the instructions it asks you not to use San Disk SD cards.
Don't know why they put the USB mini port on the wrong side the GPS suction. I think I'll try to wire mine to the right-side of my mirror.

Could you test the collision detection response when in parking mode? When the camera is asleep!

I've noticed my old mount from the N2 does not fit the newer N4. They made the rails different. The manual will tell you NOT to use Sandisk sd cards for some reason.

I just had the Vantrue N4 dash cam installed with the hardwire kit. When I turn on or off the car, the camera doesn't turn on or off automatically. I have to do it manually on the camera. I was told by the installer that with the hardwire kit, I can only have it installed to be connected for parking mode or connect it to have it turned on with the ignition, but not both. I was under the impression that I can have it connected hardwired and also to turn on/off with the ignition. Am I wrong or is the installer confused?
So you just purchase that extra part if you want gps and speed recorded?
Is there a way to turn off the display and continue recording? The screen might be distracting to older drivers
Is continuous recording possible? Or is it recorded in short clips only?
That's what I'm trying to find out I need a camera system that records 24/7 to catch the criminal that's damaging my car they're not going to do it when I'm driving it LOL?

it didn't record it to me as well. now you have to do reformate it every time before you drive. should be good
Hello, how is the speed shown on your N4? I'm not sure if it's just my unit, but I would be going 50km/h and on my N4 it would only show half of that speed. Is this the same for you? Thanks!
Do you possibly have the camera set to imperial units? I think by default it is set to MPH, not KPH. I would check that. I will note that the camera isn’t 100% accurate with the speed always, mine has differed on occasion by a matter of 5-7MPH (8-11KPH) but not exceeding that amount that I have noticed. Hope this helps!
Can you turn the inside camera off? I would prefer to have that one off when I drive but I would like it on when I park and also will it record 24/7 regardless of whether the car is running or parked? I have someone damaging my vehicle when I'm parked but I don't know where it's happening at?

We have this same exact camera. Our view is very grainy and we cannot view the video on our chrome book. We can hear the audio, however. Any comments, suggestions?
my car has a android screen with usb integrated on the screen, can i simply plug the camera to that screen to charge?
The VanTrue user manual says to NOT use a Sandisk microSD card.
Maybe thats why the dash cam didnt record consistently.
Just buy the VanTrue microSD card

I had that ongoing issues with Vantrue N2 pro with SD card not showing video footage, it was problem with the current footage not re-looping and deleting old footage. Had to reformat the card from time to time. Your right camera should let you know when it can't save
I think you may have installed the wire right over the front side pillar's airbag, which could prevent it from deploying correctly. In fact I found your video while looking for the right way to remove that trim to pass the wire behind the airbag...

I am using it . My complaint is night mode interior gives me ghost like video . I wish I can get full color video in the night mode for interior . Another problem is it cannot read the license plates right in front of my car - the light glares the plate .

I'd just like to confirm something.
Did I understand you to say that the FRONT camera produces a brighter, butter colors image if in 1080 mode, rather than 4K mode?
A common thing I'm seeing with reviews on this kit is that in the daylight, the interior camera produces, what is to me, a "nicer" image than the front. It's brighter and the colors are much more saturated, so things look natural.
I notice the front camera, in 4K mode anyway, seems dimmer and the color is flat. A deal killer for me.

Is there any way to mount this with a hard mount instead of the suction cup (cant stand suction cups, they always fall off).
Im really leaning on getting the n4 but since I have a Jeep Wrangler unlimited I don’t think the rear camera will be used since I have to lift my glass door up then the hatch itself to access my trunk. I really like the quality on this one over the n2 pro but maybe the n2 pro is better for me since it doesn’t come with the rear camera.
Any opinions?
If you got the N4, you could always mount directly onto the glass! It may be harder to hide the cable and make it look pretty though, but I don’t see why you couldn’t do that. If you don’t want to deal with that though, then yes, N2 Pro may be best for you!
