We finally have new Blur in plain 2023! This song was released today and it's already a classic for me (I listened to it too many times to count). I'm pretty sure there are some things I'm playing different here, we'll need to give it more time to see how Graham does it live - but I think I'm on the right way! But yeah I just couldn't wait to try this new one, I'm really excited! Welcome back, Blur!
thank you very much, simon! i've got a new video for "st. charles square" (blur's new song) as well, make sure to check that out too if that interests you! :)
hi alexander! i did it the same way i do all the other covers! first i isolated individual parts from the original song (drums, bass, vocals, others) by using izotope rx's music rebalance. then i learned the chords first to understand the harmony better. i confirmed the harmony by learning the bass, which usually is 99% clear from the izotope isolated bass file - i tried to copy every detail from the bass in "the narcissist" until chorus1, then i just played using the language alex james uses. guitars and synths are generated in 1 file only by izotope, and this song is really multi-layered, so i had to use a bit of instinct here to figure out the guitar parts. i'm sure everything i played here makes sense and nothing sounds odd, but graham might play it a bit different in parts, which unfortunately is impossible to hear distinctively in the original song. in other words, this cover could be seen as a "version" in a sense, specially on verses at 1:40 and 2:40. if i'm being honest, i wouldn't be surprised if i got 70-80% the song wrong, the devil lies in the details! on a sidenote, i'm thinking about making a "behind the scenes" video of my recording process soon, i just need to find the time to plan it properly! i tried to use graham's language as well, using reference from multiple songs he's played throughout his career. i'm also sure there's nothing on the original song that i can't play, it's a really straightforward song, it doesn't even have a solo. i just can't play what i can't hear unfortunately! :( hopefully i'll manage to record an updated version of it soon, when we have more material to consume and study! i just thought it'd be fun to do an 1-day reaction cover and compare it with a (hopefully) better cover in the future! as for actually "learning the song", i guess i'd say 15 years of guitar practicing, 11 years of band practicing and 8 years of music theory and music production definitely come in handy! but definitely the 2 years i've had with blurcovers so far is the thing that boosted my skills the most, it really helped me improve my "learning songs" skills more than the previous 10-13 years had! i mean, besides being a fan since forever, i've been literally studying graham coxon for two years now! thanks a lot for your support and for being a patron bro! take care ❤
yes absolutely my friend, i own nothing of the song! feel free to use it as you please :) (of course that if blur's management shows up at your door, then that's on you! but no one has ever showed up at my door and i've been posting blur videos for 15 years now, so i think you're good lol)
it's actually 2 guitars and 1 bass (with probably more layers in the studio version) - that's how they're doing it live at least! damon and graham playing the guitars and alex playing the bass

@@BlurCovers I did a complete version of my own, but thanks
how are they playing it live if it take 3 guitare to play all the note
it's actually 2 guitars and 1 bass (with probably more layers in the studio version) - that's how they're doing it live at least! damon and graham playing the guitars and alex playing the bass
