Music is dead. Music culture .. scenes ..are dead. Feel sorry for teens in 2023 they have all they ever dreamed of materialy but spiritually ... Bankrupt. Thank god I was young through the 90s we really didn't realise how musically and culturally rich those days were. Take me back .... One weekend mid 90s please.
Music is NOT dead. Have you listened to the new Vampire Weekend? Just absolutely magical. I would even say it's better than any album Blur has ever put out
"Who knows how to enjoy, knows how to wait". We usually say that in Argentina. This song is a perfect example. You have to wait to understand it, for the chorus to arrive, for it to get into the mood.
Damon, or anyone else from the band, I doubt you'll see this, but here goes. I am codependent. A while ago, I dated my first narcissist. Took everything from me. All of my money, friends, my car (she crashed it) yada yada. I've been slowly rebuilding my life but finding a job has been challenging without a car. I've loved gorillaz since the first album. Had that shit in my Walkman every day. Dracula remains my favorite song of yours. I just wanted to let you know that your lyrics here describe what it's like perfectly. The melancholy, the always trying to "figure them out", all of that. The hope spots, the up and down, the back and forth. I am also a surf fisherman, so getting back to the waves to experience love, that line piques me so much. She never let me go out there. Always found excuses. I want to say that I won't forget either. Godspeed, next time I swear I'll pay attention to the signs. They might be chameleons, but nobody on that dark triad will ever be able to fool me ever again. Thank you for continuing to produce absolutely awesome music. I used to make electronica, but my stuff was too experimental. I didn't want to compromise my art to make money. I have no idea how artists of your caliber balance that, but the results of that balancing act are amazing. I also want to say that if you wrote this song because you were damaged by a narcissist, stay strong. The healing process is long and complicated but you will get through it. Every day the sun rises without you next to them is another day of freedom.
Omg so in love with this song, I'm turning 40 soon and maybe it's because I'm older or wiser but whatever it is music hasn't really called to me in a while. This song, it's just right, its got me excited for the album like I haven't been for anything musically in a long time. I wish I had my Philips Walkman for it!!!!
Lyrics are brilliant... I can only think Damon (assuming he wrote them) has experienced a relationship with a narcissist... Evokes so much... So accurate ... Anyone whos been there, will know... And if you haven't... Count yourself fortunate... I could not tear myself away Became addiction If you see darkness, please, turn away! I would shine a light in your eyes... You'll always shine it back on me... Thankfully, i wont fall for it again.
I'm not an expert, but this is my guess.. the word Narcissist comes from the Greek story about Narcissus, he was very vain and would look at his reflection every time he passed a pool of water. The god turned him into a flower (Daffodil, which is also called narcissus). The flower looks like a person looking down (sort of).. So the word Narcissist back in the old days used to just mean a vain person looking at himself in the mirror. Over time, it evolved into the super negative word it is today.. So the way I took this song, the singer is talking to his reflection in the mirror.. he says he will shine a light in your eyes, you'll probably shine it back on me".. because he's talking to his reflection, reflecting on life.. maybe I'm 100% wrong, but that's my guess.
That’s how I like to take it. I’m exiting a year-long relationship with a Covert Narc. It’s so bad…you don’t know till you know (hopefully y’all reading this don’t someday)… And even by then you may be not ready to “go”… Once you’ve had real feelings for the person. I’ll prevail stronger and much wiser from this mess. All she had on me was emotional leverage. That’s it. She really was/isn’t that smart when you consider the warped logic she possesses. Computing her arguments were like trying to listen to anything inside a tornado.
Could be 18 all over again, this track is sublime, has the ability to make you feel a multitude of conflicting emotions all at the same time whilst leaving you knowing your listening to Blur at their most emphatically brilliant!
If ever there was a cautionary song of the nature of the relationship between artist and audience, and how it can evolve with gained wisdom into a more healthy beauty, then this is it. A host of golden daffodils need all the clouds that they can get.
Did you feel a third axis there in the lyrics? I am not saying God. But perhaps an awareness of “otherness” that Damon detects and fears. If so, while it’s good to turn away from evil, there’s an even more powerful direction yet.
@@GT380man I feel that he is intimating that we are all reflections of one another, and with that realisation the ego becomes sublimated into a greater consciousness, an "otherness" as you succinctly put it. I'm not sure that it's perceived from a source of fear, but I could well be wrong. I'm curious, please elucidate further.

Blur always knows how to create Pop songs, the chorus proves it! This song is addictive with Damon's voice! :)
Masters at work...
It is masterful in the simplicity but efficacy. The rythm of the lead vocal makes a lot i find. The switch to the chorus is wonderful.
the chorus has been in my head all week
Adore this!
Blur and Suede are active and great 30+ years on. A minor miracle, that.
They're back and this is the best thing that could've happened to me. Thank you Blur, i will always love you💜
It grows on me. So happy they are back together. Can't wait to see them in Dublin!
2:02 oh wow the guitar in this it just… i cant explain it it feels nostalgic in a way with a smooth comforting feel to it. Gotta love this song as a whole 💚
Coxon never disappoints.
What a TUNE! thanks blur for keeping it Indie in 2023. Some right shite In the charts 🙌
have you watch some of the music channels lately.?..absolute shiite
Music is dead. Music culture .. scenes ..are dead. Feel sorry for teens in 2023 they have all they ever dreamed of materialy but spiritually ... Bankrupt.
Thank god I was young through the 90s we really didn't realise how musically and culturally rich those days were. Take me back .... One weekend mid 90s please.
I agree, we reached peak music sometime around mid to late 90s. Still some gems like this pop up from time to time to keep your hopes up.
Music is NOT dead. Have you listened to the new Vampire Weekend? Just absolutely magical. I would even say it's better than any album Blur has ever put out
@@CL2-not even close to Blur’s B-sides lmao😭🙏
I could not tear myself away
Became addiction
If you see darkness, please, turn away!
It really, really, really did happen... a new Blur album! 😃😃😃
Yes!! Can't wait for the rest of the album!!!!
I can
Could be 18 all over again, this track is sublime, has the ability to make you feel a multitude of conflicting emotions all at the same time whilst leaving you knowing your listening to Blur at their most emphatically brilliant!
Utterly beautiful new song. What a fantastic gift from an incredible band. I can't wait to see them together again at Wembley this summer.
Me too
This song feels like that is already a classic
Namjoon brought me here. Thank you so much! Love Blur and love the fact that Namjoon loves it too 🥰
THEY TOOK US BY SURPRISE
Again!
THEY DID
And that doesn't happen often in today's society. Love me a good surprise!
For real!!🥳
Not really. James Ford spilled the beans a couple of months ago. But a great confirmation nonetheless!!
I love Blur.
One of the greatest bands ever.
The first time i heard it i wasnt sure, but after a few listens it sounds as good as you would expect from Blur, it's a grower
It's pretty catchy right off the bat. You could say it's also a shower
Simplicity at its best and most honest way.Feels like I’ve been transported back to my 90s teenage years!
One of the most instantly likeable blur songs. The best writers get better as the years pass , you just know so much more
So many comebacks by bands down the years. By far the best is Blur. Wonderful
God I love this song 'Legacy Blur and current' at the same time - melancholic yet equally uplifting....at the same time! Genius
I absolutely love every era of Blur.
At 45 so good to feel like I was in my 20's. Blur nailed it with this song ❤️
I feel the same in my late 50's!
BTS ARMY discovering Blur is amazing! I'm so happy! As a fan of Blur for 25+ years, and an ARMY since 2019, my heart is full!!! 😘
Damon's voice has gotten better with age. There's so much life in it.
머선일이고 일어나니 신곡이라니 🥲 좋다 ㅠㅠㅠ
If ever there was a cautionary song of the nature of the relationship between artist and audience, and how it can evolve with gained wisdom into a more healthy beauty, then this is it. A host of golden daffodils need all the clouds that they can get.
Poétique et subtil
Did you feel a third axis there in the lyrics?
I am not saying God. But perhaps an awareness of “otherness” that Damon detects and fears.
If so, while it’s good to turn away from evil, there’s an even more powerful direction yet.
@@GT380man I feel that he is intimating that we are all reflections of one another, and with that realisation the ego becomes sublimated into a greater consciousness, an "otherness" as you succinctly put it. I'm not sure that it's perceived from a source of fear, but I could well be wrong. I'm curious, please elucidate further.
WFUV in NYC has been spinning this one lately, heard it twice (I was like, new Blur?!) and came straight to RUclips. Blur fan since the 90’s and love this new one, congrats!
I've been listening to this song for the past month since it came out now and I am just so happy that Blur is releasing new music!
I thought that after The Magic Whip, that was it and there wouldn't be anymore. Looks like I was proved wrong! I absolutely love this along with previous works and finding out all the very underrated tracks from the deluxe albums that I've been discovering for the past year now.
I'm excited for the new album and even though I won't be able to fly to England and see Blur at the Wembley or anywhere else in Europe, I'll at least have the new album and the new memories I'll make with the songs. Glad to have you back, Blur! ❤
keep coming back to this .. tuuunnne , they never fail to deliver quality music .. sounds vintage but familiar
I just bought my ticket to the Osaka show. Haven’t had much to feel happy about for a long time. Got butterflies about Blur.
So good to have new music and what a fantastic track. I was never a massive Blur fan in my youth but have grown to love them with age. Graham Coxon is my guitar hero :)
Coxon is such a unique talent
Oh Fxxx, thought it was just me.
Blur are so adaptable to the times, they’ve been going 30 years and are still pumping out songs people want to listen to, love them and can’t wait for Wembley ❤
A touch of Bill Fay/music hall/Bacharach. Splendid x and those backing vocals, oh my days ❤
This song is so amazing
The Damon Albarn fans always be eating so good
No matter what year it is, he's always dropping something.
He's a genius
Definitely a grower. First few listens I was kind of waiting for somethi9ng to 'happen' but then I realised that it weas already happening and I just hadn't got it. When it all comes together it's absolutely brilliant. Love this and can't wait for the album.
ARE YOU BEING SERIOUS RIGHT NOW THERE IS NO WAY OMG IM LITERALLY SHAKING
The dream😊
Timeless sound
A song that is very catchy, that’s for sure. Always loved Blur, so many underrated hits
Never really listened to Blur, but man I can't stop listening to this song. Don't know why, but I really like it

What a fantastic song. I am speechless. Didnt expect that in 2023, as much as I love Blur.
Awesome to hear Blur like this again! 🫶
LOVE the background vocals TOO MUCH
This sounded AMAZING live at Wembley, like its always been around, pure Blur sound. Welcome back gents. ❤
