    Jay. You are awesome. I came across one of your vids a month ago while doing a pc build. I looked at more of your vids and you only make videos that actually appeal to what people are doing. Water cooling. Over clocking. Etc. Just awesome. I must of watched 70 episodes now. You are pretty funny and you for sure know what you are talking about. Keep up the good work and keep the vids coming.

    I'm in the same boat Jay. I put in Devil's Canyon 2 months ago and already switched it out with the 5960X. "Must have best, unga bunga...." I got mine to 4.8 ghz on all cores at 1.375 volts & 2800 Mhz RAM. Liquid cooling has it idle at 25-28 degrees C and 61-64 degrees C under load. Love it. One caveat though... I keep my house cold as heck. Thermostat is always 69 or 70

    I'm still very happy with my I7 4770K with all the necessities. Took me since its release doing incremental upgrades to get this system to a point that I'm very happy with. I'll be using this system for at least a couple more years before I can save enough to build a new system but till then I have no complaints and consider myself quite lucky since my old system was based on a Core 2 quad.

    I was thrilled to watch this video. I also bought the 5960X and the EVGA X99 Micro, all looks and works fantastic, but, I am having trouble maintaining a stable overclock over the stock 3.0 GHz. Any direction or advice is welcome to get me overclocked before Christmas. Thanks and have a great Holiday Season. KO

      Haswell didn't bring huge performance improvements, and the clock speed of the 5820K is 300mhz lower at turbo boost. I'd expect them to be very similar performance wise.

    I got 4.5mhz with only 1.25v !! The temp were 58-61 and i'm only using Nepton 120XL for cooling. I might have gotten 4.7-4.8 if i pushed it to 1.35v. But I didn't really want to sacrifice the good temp and also to avoid the noise from my cooler.

  • @robertwilliams204

    Same here. You don't know how bad I want to go out, say F it and just get Rampage 5 and the 5960X with some 3000mhz DDR4 even though I just got my 4770k just a few months ago. I couldn't resist the urge the get rid of the G1 Sniper M5 and I picked the Maximus 7 Formula just last weekend. Such awesome stuff comes out so close together. My next build though I'm definitely jumping to the enthusiast platform in about 3 to 4 years. I've not had one and I feel left out. Damn sensible side. Sometimes I really hate that guy.

    Hello from June 2021. My 5960x still kicks ass. I can run it at 4200-4400GHz (with up to 80 degree ambient air) with no issues (1.222v). I have a pretty big OC on a 1080 TI and both are more than good enough to run any games (but cyberpunk) close to 144hz on my 32" monitor at 2k resolution. Pretty sure the CPU wouldn't bottleneck a 2080 TI either.

    • @doplere6364
      @doplere6364 2 года назад +1

      Nice!.. I still have mine at 4.5ghz 1.34v... 2080Ti... Most video rendering etc these days is done through the GPU and I play ms flight simulator 2020 with no problems and many new games at 1440p smoothly..
      Having it now for nearly 7 years is the best bang for buck ever IMO..

    • @rev68
      @rev68 2 года назад +1

      @@doplere6364 Agreed. We have more than enough cores and a massive amount of cache to keep up with modern gaming for quite some time.

    In Australia it seems most efficient to buy second hand workstations on Ebay. When you can get a not too old refurb of a E5 20core pc with 64gb of ECC ram, 1tb SSD and a half decent kepler quadro for $5.5k when the 5960x sets you back $1400. For getting a dedicated workstation, after pricing up motherboards and DDR4 along with finding a quadro it just seems more efficient to get the prebuilt.
    I'd rather take businesses scraps.

    • @JayJapanB
      @JayJapanB 9 лет назад

      Good for multipurpose rigs though. If you game and stuff.
      A bit like Titans.

    • @MoreNimrod

      I'd use the 5960X in a hybrid PC, so one where you use creative software as well as play games. Then in total you can get a 4K-ready build for about $3K and have a powerful CPU for all your rendering needs.

    • @JayJapanB
      @JayJapanB 9 лет назад +2

      Dennis Z Yup.
      I personally stopped gaming so more cores the better. At least for what I do.
      Using creative software is my uptime and downtime.

    One has to admint it's tempting, but I recently told myself that I am in no need of a new computer. Actually I "re clocked" my 2600k a couple of weeks ago and took it from 4.5 GHz back to stock, since I simply do not need the power.
    Well, compiling code would certainly go faster on a 5960X, but I'm telling myself it's irrelevant. I simply have to program quicker, so I can shave time elsewhere.
    Thanks for a great video man, as usual!

    Jay. Not to be a wiseass or anything but. TTL stated that the best OC results are to be found if you fiddle with the cpu base frequency aswell. Might help you to get a bit more. I noticed you had a bclk of 100 so i just thought i'd put it out there

    Hi. I do own 5960X and i did overclock it to 4.65ghz with 1.298voltage. With EKWB 360Xtreme that i watched from one of yours videos so I bought it. I did asus realbench stress test for couple hours and temps never reach 70c. Very good performance increase compare i had before corsair 110k Gtx aio with 4gzh and 100c while stress test and around 70-80c while gaming..so no no aio anymore :))

    I just found your channel, like, last week. What Case/tower are you using? I understand it use to house a Z97 board. My Lian-li A75 would take some mods to fit that setup and it wouldn't look that clean. I'm one step behind you with a EVGA Z97 Classified, but my water-cooling is lacking it seems, looking at your setup. I think my GTX Titan would be an awesome combo with the 5960X-X99 running CADAM/Catia/GibbsCam/MasterCam/3D Studio MAX. Keep up the great work. Hopefully the prices will come down on the 5960X.

    Actually it is 28% improvement; divide 100 by 78 you get 1.28 which means an improvement. What you said is 22% of un-improvement coming from the slower result.
    Nice vid, glad about that content creation coming close to 1:1 ratio on time the content lasts and time it takes to render it.

    It's amazing how the CPU scaled from the 3.5Ghz boost frequency (I think it's only 3.3Ghz in all 16 threads) to 4.5Ghz (like 30% faster clocks) and it improved Cinebench result by 27%. It's incredible scalling with clocks like you said. I hope a 5820k or a 5930k have this type of scalling too.

    • @OffroadGeekDxb

    • @maxfwhxh
      @maxfwhxh 8 лет назад

      +Joshy George I would like to start a youtube channel in the future about tech and stuff like that. Would a 5930K be a better option over the 5960x for rendering, but I have a budget. Better overclocking on the 5930k but better performance on the 5960x. Would the extra few hundred dollars be worth it for a bit more performance in content creations?

    • @OffroadGeekDxb
      @OffroadGeekDxb 8 лет назад

      Max Kibo 5960X is more than a few hundred dollars than the 5930k... but if you are looking to work and make money off of it then 5960X is the better investment as it will future proof you for the next couple of years. Just get some SSDs and RAID the $hit out of them, and like 64GB of DDR4 RAM where you can use part of it as RamDisk for cache --- more than you would need for an ideal system.

    • @OffroadGeekDxb
      @OffroadGeekDxb 8 лет назад

      Max Kibo Or Option #2 would be to get the 5930K and then invest in More SSD arrays, HSSD Disks and M.2 Storage. Faster file transfers at the same cost.

    I apologize if this is the complete wrong video to ask this kind of a question but I am in search of a GPU to upgrade my system. My budget is around the same as the R9 280 or the GTX 760. Would a better idea be to wait for the 900 series to be launched this month? And see how much the 960 would cost or rather to wait until the price goes down of the mentioned GPU's? I havent bought a GPU for a really, really long time but the rest of my system is 'semi' up to date.

I have a 4670k and a asus sabertooth Z97; the sabertooth thermal radar shows a front and back vcore temp. super confused. My cpu has an average idle temp while at 4.48ghz of 45 and load of 50s-high 60s but the vcore gets to mid 50s.

Of course this is an older i7 chip now, if you look around there are some screaming deals for computers that were built with this processor. Add a m.2 samsung 960pro and update the gpu .. and I doubt you will have trouble keeping up with anything for a while

    Awesome video and Amazing CPU! I could of sworn people were saying this CPU would be able to reach 5ghz on water cooling, I guess that was a lie however, 4.5Ghz, 8 cores and 16 hyperthreads!?! Simply unbelievable!

      MunneY on overclock.net has already hit 5GHz www.overclock.net/t/1510388/lightbox/post/22820240/id/2166115 But he is using a phase change unit though. 4.7 or possibly 4.8 should be achievable for a small number of chips on water

      VR6 Doug I still can't for the life of me figure how he's doing that. I'm on water with the SAME batch he has and can't get past 4.2 and keep prime95 28.5 stable at ~1.33v. Pretty sure it's just a crap batch and I'm pretty sure he hasn't run prime.

      Chris123NT silicone lottery dude :( But yeah you're right, I think so far he 's only got it to boot up on 5GHz and hasn't done any stress testing at that speed.

      Chris123NT I would like to get a peek at how he is getting there as well. I am at 4.3 with ~1.30v. but would like to see at least 4.5 as thats the average for this cpu.

    Hi Jay!, Thank you so much for those video's, I have learned alot :)
    I have a question about my new upcomming PC build:
    - I am building my dream PC -
    - 5960X,
    - Asus V Rampage
    - G.Skill 64gb 2800mhz memory
    Currently I have Asus GTX Titan X installed in my previous build. I am wondering if this is a good card for a workstation PC ? Or the Titan X is not that much optimized for video rendering?
    Thank you very much!

    I'm also running Vegas 11 and I was wondering what you use to render down. I'm currently using AVCHD for my render on a E8400 witch takes about 5 hours for a 15 minute vid. I would like to find a codec that look good when I upload to RUclips. I tried the windows 9 but the colors get bleached out and doesn't look that good for a final product.

    Hi! Noob question here, probably missed something out. Are you using air cooling or watercooling for that 5960X at 4.5GHz clock?

    Hey Jay, are you having issues with SonyVegas with your new set up. Im using a 5960x with a HD 7970 and the experience is HORRIBLE, playback is a nightmare. Its shows that 1 or 2 cores is only being used. Im working with iphone video 1080p.

    You know that you cant get max overclock frequency if you run quad channel memory or at least that was the case in ddr3 i havent had a shoot with ddr4, try dual channel on 4.7

    Quick question for those who might know. Right now I am using MSI Z87-G45 with i7 4770k. It was pretty cheap, so I was wondering if I wanted to upgrade to one of the Asus mobo's, what would be my choice? My price range 200-350. Also, is it even needed or is my current one considered a top of the line mobo? I don't really know about all this stuff. I kinda just went to TigerDirect retail store and grabbed a bunch of stuff. I built it (might not be completely correct but it works).
    Would there be any benefits to upgrading? I mainly only do gaming videos with sony vegas and of course gaming, I'm a writer but that of course doesn't take a good pc to do.

      I sure did, however no matter the combo I used, or the RAM speed, and even 1.4v, the stress test would blue screen at 4.6
