"Valve Sparing" Aneurysm Repair - Dr. Leonard Girardi

Dr. Leonard Girardi, an attending cardiothoracic surgeon at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital in New York City, discusses how surgeons can repair abdominal aortic aneurysms without replacing the aorta's natural valves with mechanical ones.
This "valve sparing" procedures has several advantages, which Dr. Girardi discusses. He also devotes some time to describing which patients are good candidates.

I am so grateful to Dr. Leonard Girardi for saving my heart and giving me a second chance at life in October of 2010. I was able to get pregnant several months later and give birth to a beautiful healthy baby boy in January of 2012. Unfortunately I may be in need of another surgery done by Dr. Girardi but I know I'll be in the best hands and recover quickly. Thank you New York Presbyterian for the outstanding patient care you provided me post surgery. I look forward to coming back soon.
