Great video. I love throwing knuckleballs with my kids. I could throw a half decent one in high school but was too chicken to throw it in games. Btw, greatly enjoy watching Paul Byrd on the Braves podcast. Chop On!!!
I curl my fingers all the way to the knuckle and I get less than 2 rotations every throw. 3-5ft break at 65mph. The coach dropped me because the catcher can't catch it.
One of my buddies can throw the nastiest knuckleballs I have ever seen. Like better then MLB stuff. He could throw from first to third and have the ball spin less than once.
I threw it kind of sidearm sometimes, would aim at the shoulder. Struck one kid out 3 times in a game with it, he just bailed as he assumed I was aiming at him????
Funny story about knuckleballs for me. Growing up (late little league into junior high summer league) we were fortunate enough to have a (previously) semi-pro pitcher as one of our coaches. I hated taking batting practice from him because he'd hit you every once and a while (mind you, he's probably throwing 70+ if not higher). _But_ he also liked to throw a knuckleball every once and a while. I would always smack the shit out of his knuckleball because it was so much slower that I could just wait on it so I always loved it when he'd throw a knuckleball (well when it would be close to a strike anyway).
I would throw these in J.V. games on occasion. It wasn't a true knuckleball as I would add the same arm action as a screwball but it was still funny watching guys swing right over the top b/c of the last minute drop.
The throw mechanic is off. My dad used to tell me this (about knuckleballs) that it was like throwing a shotput--which is how he's trying to throw it. He had it partially correct, it's 100% about the grip and release. What I would do to throw a knuckleball, is grip like a fast ball (two knuckles + thumb), lock my wrist and avoid rotation as the ball came out. As I worked on it, I could unlock my wrist to get more velocity but it was always the grip and release that was important...I never got to the point where I was worried about downward rotation, lol.
Today I realized that I wasn't getting anywhere with my current pitches and I kept getting injured. So now, I'm going full toxicity, submarine, knuckleball, gyroball, palmball, eephus, and screwball. Everyone is gonna HATE me
Not really, because when the Jays traded for him he started throwing his curve far too often and almost never the knuckle. Not sure what he was thinking.
As a 6-year knuckleballer (yes, reestablishing my pitching usefulness), this video did not help. sry. It's like teaching someone how to swim by saying "just jump in the water like this... then wiggle"

Thank you for the demo, Paul!
That last throw had some funk on it!
Instructions not clear. I tried this and got my nipples tangled to the ceiling fan.
bro this made me laugh
@@PhYcOpAtHs_ Hahahhahaha. I'm glad it did.

Hahahah understandable
Hey buddy, Tim Wakefield was preeeeetty damn good.
I threw a two finger knuckle ball with the fingers against the inside curved seam during high school and college. Fun pitch to add to any arsenal.

there is no one in mlb that throws knuckleball anymore
@@dylano4876yes there is he plays for the San Diego padres
This would be really cool to learn
My release point was always aimed at the batters head.

Your coach sounds like a jackass

How much pressure do put on the grip? For example, do you grip it as though you are holding an egg you don't want to break, or grip it really tight?
Hold it like ur girlfriends cooter
That's how i was taught
Phil Niekro, Tim Wakefield, Steve Sparks, R.A. Dickey.... Who else am I missing?
Charlie Hough
Steven Wright was also great at it before his DV stuff
Phil's brother Joe was a knuckle baller as well and just as good as Phil.
Could we list the best knuckleball throwers?
1.

@@Jonesy_Gaming I meant like eddie cicotte but whatever🤷♂️
@@TCB405 Either has to be Phil Niekro or Hoyt Wilhelm since they are the only two Knuckleballers in the Hall of Fame
Can’t forget my boy Tim Wakefield. God rest his soul
Nice job! ⚾️👍🏻

"Phil Niekro the best, RA Dickey right behind him"
Ever heard of a guy named Tim Wakefield (RIP)?
Nothing against Niekro, but someone besides me should remind him that Niekro's lifetime ERA was 3.35, and Hoyt Wilhelm's was 2.52...
now at all the right grip
Go Braves!🎉❤
has there ever been a left handed knuckle baller?
Thanks
Do you like Tom Candiotti

Have to watch shit like this when I want to see magic tricks
With all due respect sir i couldn't hit that one

This guy sleepy or something? Tim Wakefield better than both names he mentioned. Prove me wrong
I throw curves
I don’t play baseball, but I feel like I could’ve knocked those out of the park🤷🏻♂️

The best way to hit a knuckleball is to not swing.
How can you hit the ball if you don’t swing the bat genius?
