Nice looking knife but I don't think you can properly heat treat N690 with a torch like you showed. Stainless knife making steels typically require higher temperatures and specific soaking times at different temperatures which you can only do properly in a heat treating oven.
Marek Tabi i have only watched three of your videos but I can already see you make better knifes than the ones shown on the marketing channels you earned a sub
I am wondering the same. The knife was only kind of close to temp in the middle of the blade. Also I did not see a tempering phase. I would think you could take it apart, normalize it with a few heat soaks, then quench and temper again. Other than that it looks like a great idea for a knife. I am unfamiliar with the design though. Is it an actual viking style knife?
keep in mind that it is not exact at all to tell temperature by looking at the knife. in good lighting, the knife will still look almost black when it is to temperature, not red. so as long as its non-magnetic,and then you heat it for another minute or so, you will have a successful heat treat. so it is entirely possible that the heat treat on this knife was good.
hey Marek Tabi Do you know what the runes say that you etched into the knife? From the ELDER FUTHARK definition it says " human, god, riding, horse, torch, Tyr, god, birch, ice. " nice knife by the way
kim suutala The marking on the edge, like you are referring to, is do to give a better contrast when putting the edge on the blade. It ensures that no spot on the edge is missed and is therefore sharp for the entire length.
Grammar please... For that one he probably didnt spend too much on abrasives but when making bigger knifes or even ones from titanium you usually spend more and with titanium a multitude of the material price just on the abrasives.
I do have to tell you this though about the runes you used for your name (just for future reference) you used the wrong Futhark for the Vikings. It is a very Easy mistake that a lot of people make that aren't Practicing Heathens (worship the old gods like Odin and Thor), Academics or just history freaks. The Old Norse used the Younger Futhark, the Elder Futhark is too old and represents an earlier form of the Germanic language that would diverge into Anglo-Saxon, Old Norse, Gothic, low and high German etc etc. I still stand by my earlier comment- very nice work with the blade and the handle. You are very talented and I hope to be able to get to that level with my own projects. Sorry I didn't mention this earlier, I didn't read the runes until now.
This knife isnt heat-treated the right way and wont be hardened. N690 steel needs 1050 degrees celsius for mybe 10 minutes at the thickness of that blade. This cant be done with a small torge like this. Also its recommended to use a foil fir hardening.
Ty by sis koupil nůž s nezakalenou čepelí? N690 se kalí na 1070 stupňů, Marek to zakalil na sotva 800. Magnet se nedá na kalení nerezových ocelí použít
If it's stainless steel, you didn't hardened it. In the dark barely glow, color it's not even cherry red, so it's under 800 Celsius. N690 needs about 1060 Celsius. In the language of colors it's Orange almost yellow. Your temperature is way too low. Second, steel needs to hold about 1060 Celsius at least 29 minutes. You just ruined good steel, blade is not hardened.
So freakin awesome! Great job on the blade. What if you filed a dragon's head on the end that sticks out when the blade is closed? What if that dragon's head was shaped sort of like a bottle opener? (Ignore all the armchair blacksmiths giving you shit about heat treating. If you can skate a file over the blade after the quench then it was successful. How you temper or IF you temper after the quench is up to you.)
Great work! I love vikings designs on blades :)
thanks :) viking design is the best :D
Marek Tabi nice knife bro great video thank you you can send me one if you like lol
Oh, didn't think I would see you here. Not shocked but pleasantly surprised.
Friend, fasten the workpiece when you drill a hole. The drill can jam and then the fingers will become smaller))
Great work? Do you like unhardened blades? N690 needs about 1060 degrees Celsius and he warm it barely to 800.
Next time I see a Viking I'll know where he got his knife from. DAMN! NICE WORK.
Nice looking knife but I don't think you can properly heat treat N690 with a torch like you showed. Stainless knife making steels typically require higher temperatures and specific soaking times at different temperatures which you can only do properly in a heat treating oven.
You are totally right, n690 can't be heat treated like he did.
Very nice looking knife, also looks very functional, no frills, just neat.
thanks
what is the buffing wheel you are using
thats freaking awesome!! i want one!!
Marek Tabi i have only watched three of your videos but I can already see you make better knifes than the ones shown on the marketing channels you earned a sub
thanks bro :)
Awesome stuff marek I like the way this looks 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
thanks :)
Marek tabi. I love runes and also to write in that language. 😆
Krásná práce Marku ! Prima nápad na dárek :)
Čepel není zakalená, n690 potřebuje kolem 1060 stupňů, on ocel zahřál sotva na 800.
How does that snap in exactly? can't really see what you did.
what type of belt grinder do you have
I've been subscribed for a couple of months now and I've seen your work improve lots it's inspiring this knife is great :-)
thanks :)
Beautiful knife
looks good, but quenching N690 with burner can´t be good
szép és jó kis késecske :)
GREAT MAGNET WORK! Awesome!
hey is there any way to put a lock on the knife so when you stab something, there is no hazard of it coming back into the sheath?
I think that you holding the knife would prevent that because your palm would prevent the knife from moving.
that so freakin awesome. great job.
your chanel is just badass...love it
thanks :)
Marek Tabi np!
what you makin next?
A good idea would be if you showed how sharp are the blades
I’m just in awe of your skill. You do do much free hand, it’s amazing.
Thanks bro 👍😊
Umm did it just looked like so or did you actually fail heat treating?
I am wondering the same. The knife was only kind of close to temp in the middle of the blade. Also I did not see a tempering phase. I would think you could take it apart, normalize it with a few heat soaks, then quench and temper again. Other than that it looks like a great idea for a knife. Jonathan Capehart these are called friction folders

When you read my long name, I stole your sandwich Umm, did you fail English?
GREAT WORK
thanks
good idea putting a magnet in the handle for a closure lock.
Esta muy buena la voy a hacer
beautiful knife but are you afraid the wood will give way with any pressure on the blade ? maybe use some really thin bone or metal liners
beautiful
just in the sounds from the high speed makes this video so awesome to watch. sweet piece of work you got here, great video!
Great work? Do you like unhardened blades? N690 needs about 1060 degrees Celsius and he warm it barely to 800.

Good job. I enjoy watching the ones with a ‘restricted’ workshop more then the guys that have all the toys to play with.
nice one
what thickness do u use for metal
thickness of 3 mm
can anyone tell me why they paint it with a pen on the steel ?
kim suutala The marking on the edge, like you are referring to, is do to give a better contrast when putting the edge on the blade. It ensures that no spot on the edge is missed and is therefore sharp for the entire length.
How many sandpapers did you already used?
Grammar please... For that one he probably didnt spend too much on abrasives but when making bigger knifes or even ones from titanium you usually spend more and with titanium a multitude of the material price just on the abrasives.
didnt kno vikings had poket knifes aha jk good video
trabalho excelente e inspirador, parabéns!
excellent and inspiring work, congrats!
thanks :)
Excellent work! Really beautiful piece.
Do you like unhardened blades? N690 needs about 1060 degrees Celsius and he warm it barely to 800.
why'd you hinge it so close to the edge?
Then it is better to close
Красава

Paráda !!! Máš aj onlineshop? Mohol by si vyrábať aj na objednávku! Som prvý zákazník :-)
Ty by sis koupil nůž s nezakalenou čepelí? N690 se kalí na 1070 stupňů, Marek to zakalil na sotva 800. Magnet se nedá na kalení nerezových ocelí použít
Would you be willing to take custom orders? I would really love to own some of your work!
Why? Do you like unhardened blades? N690 needs about 1060 degrees Celsius and he barely warm the steel to 800. Steel is unhardened.

you need some new drillbits buddy

Super kudla. Velice cením ten nápad s magnetem :-)
diki :)
"nápad s magnetem" nelze aplikovat na nerezové oceli. Čepel není zakalená.
@@Drunken_Frog_40000 Na běžnou nerez magnet nelepí, ale na kalitelné ano. Proto máme v kuchyni magnetickou lištu na nerez nože.

Why not make it fixed blade? I can't see any reason at all to make it a flip knife when the tang sticks out as far as the blade would anyway
first lol
