11:00 i always find it wild how the "made in a chinese lab" theory went from complete crackpot to mainstream news/the prevailing western thought behind the origin (regardless of it's accuracy) in a year flat
Why would it be wild? Biological warfare is real, the Chinese government is far less ethical than many other governments on our planet, so why wouldn't the Chinese government try to create a virus like COVID to use as a weapon? Sprinkle in a little of bit of human error and you have the last couple of years.
@@Nekranon there's honestly so many reasons why this can be debunked, for a start the fact that epidemiologists & pharmacologists across the globe have confirmed that the virus performs badly in laboratory conditions and basically that I if you wanted to mass produce a bio weapon, it makes little sense to use a coronavirus strain in the first place
@@Nekranon Because warfare is logical and targeted, and the covid spread was not. Because it has hurt the chinese economy as well as any other. Because studies on the virus' genome showed very little difference from "natural" viruses. Because tailoring a virus is really fucking hard.
Norway's a fun study in this sort of subject: Our kings were for the most part seen as responsible for disasters *before* the Christening. In Ynglingasaga there's a king called Dómaldi who was sacrificed by bloð* due to bad crops. This was regarded as an ultimate sacrifice, as they had tried sacrificing several other animals before then. Worth remarking is how everything went back to normal in the following crop cycle. *(we presume bloð means to cut their throat on a sacrificial stone and bleed them, and then do rituals with that blood)
You have given a great amount of respect to religion, philosophy, and humanity in this incredibly intelligent video and, for that, I thank you Alt Shift.
This has weighed so heavily on my soul since I was a small child. That humanity can destroy the world. I think you're right; in this next century, we either learn to live with a certain fairness and justice for everyone -- including the Earth -- or we fall into a true Dark Age.

Alt Shift X. This is a well-thought, well-researched presentation. This is how research should be - with logic and evidence. Thank you for the video as always.
This is so good. We keep getting inundated with heroism, partly because of the culture we come from, and partly because it takes responsibility away from us. At a time when we need to make organizations that well and truly function for the benefit of all mankind, we sit here hoping some billionaire, or some other person will come and assist us in beating global warming, or beat social justice issues. The more we shy away from fact based thinking the more we lose our way and waddle around as we hit extinction level events day after day and year after year...
This is a very good video. I wish more people used critical thinking like this, but I do think that a feeling of control is directly linked to happiness, and so admitting that things are complicated and nuanced and out of your control is, while closer to reality, depressing.
When the original viking settlers of Iceland debated if they should take up Christianity a volcanic eruption brought streams of lava that threatened one of the Christian settlers, and the heathen majority saw this as a sign that the gods were angry at the Christians. On that occasion one of the wiser leaders asked a surprisingly profound question to the crowd standing in the lava fields of Þingvellir the viking parliament of Iceland: What made the gods angry when the lava flowed over this [holy] place we stand on right now? It is a strikingly simple question but it show a deep scientific understanding, that all lava fields must have been originally made through volcanic eruption, and this process is frequent and random enough for it to be nonsensical to attribute it to a godly will.
It's a shame that even now, most people can't process the idea that there are volcanoes and earthquakes even when there aren't humans around. So many modern cavemen think everything is all about them.
I do want more videos like these thank you very much. Love the other videos w my life but this was really well put together, and as always an incredible narration.

I really like this more political direction. I feel like there could be some backlash from followers that want you to focus more on media but I feel like your style of narration is great to tackle complex issues with historical contex. Thanks for the video.
@@Nekranon i mean sure maybe, but i was more referring to the 180 flip by mainstream discourse on the subject. just funny how fickle
@@ysbhw not saying I think it’s the case but it’s very strange indeed

Being the internet I kept expecting snarky jabs at religious people, but you kept it respectful and interesting. 👍

I think you're right; in this next century, we either learn to live with a certain fairness and justice for everyone -- including the Earth -- or we fall into a true Dark Age.

Crazy how well the format you usually use for ASOIAF videos works for stuff like this
People are insensitive, they want to blame their problems what they don't like.
That was very interesting and insightful. I’m a student of Comparative Mythology so anything involving myth and analysis of collective human psyche hugely fascinates me. Yeah, if you can make real life events into lore like narrative, I’d love more contents of this nature.

Could, not, have, said, it, better, myself.
Just watched all tomorrow’s and just want to say don’t ever stop making these. You are a light in so many peoples darkness. Thanks. 🌤

This is a very good video. I wish more people used critical thinking like this, but I do think that a feeling of control is directly linked to happiness, and so admitting that things are complicated and nuanced and out of your control is, while closer to reality, depressing.
As someone currently displaced by hurricane Laura, this hits close to home. Thanks for the video, Alt.

@halldorberg thats an amazing story, thanks for sharing mate
Very wise leader indeed
It's a shame that even now, most people can't process the idea that there are volcanoes and earthquakes even when there aren't humans around. So many modern cavemen think everything is all about them.
