Traffic Nightmare in Sosua - Cabarete in 2024

  • The Sosua - Cabarete area is rapidly expanding with many new projects popping up everywhere, yet did the municipalities take into account the number of additional cars wanting to commute in this area? Was it stupid to add 16 traffic lights in a main traffic artery? Was it stupid to add road cubes so vehicles get slowed down as they can't pass another vehicle that wants to turn in heavy traffic? Was it stupid to add speed bumps and road knobs in a main traffic artery? Are Amet (traffic cops) incompetent when stepping in to direct the "self-created" road mess? Do roadblocks by police add to this already huge traffic nightmare?
One thing is for sure, just 10 years ago, before traffic lights, pedestrian curves, speed bumps, etc... the average speed between Cabarete and Puerto Plata was 70 to 100 km/hr on the highway, yet now that's right down to 0 to 50 km/hr, and folks are often sitting in kilometers of long queues, so it's already a nightmare with even more frustrated drivers and accidents. In other words, "it worked so well, that they had to mess with it!". These "Smart City" footpaths right out into the countryside, were never needed!
What we needed instead was overtaking lanes to handle the growth of the towns, but someone obviously forgot that one! We didn't need their traffic lights either, and when the power was out, guess what? Yes, the traffic flows better. Back to basics!!
Feel free to comment, and thanks for tuning in!

Are there ideal times in the day for avoiding or minimizing this while traveling to Cabarete?

@EducatedTraveler hmm...sounds like a grin and bear it situation. I may consider a bus. Can you recommend a car rental company in Cabarete?

VIP Car Rental (in Sosua), I don't think Cabarete has a car rental company.
