    Hi Hannah! The list of things you spend or don’t spend really depends on the person’s perspective such as you are fine with spending money on fine jewelry and I don’t because I don’t wear them, etc. Also, it’s also interesting to know that the list changes as well that the list when you’re in your 20s is so different than the list in your 40s or older. It shows how much you have grown from that young stage to now. Anyway, thank you for the insightful video ❤

    Some years ago while visiting family in Italy, I purchased a set of earrings and a ring for my daughter for about $300. At that time gold was cheaper, maybe the same price as the US, just that the gold was 18K. After we came back to the US, my daughter saw the same earrings and ring in a Vogue magazine, and some famous celebrity put her name on that design, and the cost was not double or triple, it was over $3000 at that time because it was supposed to be designer jewelry. Today, gold jewelry is more expensive everywhere. However, you get better quality in Italy. Also, in tourist areas like Florence or Rome, etc or other tourist cities gold will be more expensive. It is a lot cheaper to buy in a small town outside tourist areas. By the way, great video. I always enjoy your videos. ❤

      This question has been on my mind for quite a long time, but with the very recent tragedy, I’ve been thinking about it again. When your family of four travels, do you ever divide up and take two different planes? We are traveling with my mom this summer and I’ve been debating internally if I should divide the five of us up so we aren’t all on the same plane 😞🫣Maybe I’m overthinking this

      Good for you!! I used to declutter room by room and then I changed to item by item… meaning, all the clothes in every room, all the books in every room, all the shoes in every closet etc. 😂 It’s madness but very satisfying to pull out everything from every nook and cranny and organize. As for nail polish and Starbucks, you’re two steps ahead of them there! 😉

    • @hellocatwalkcity
      @hellocatwalkcity  7 дней назад +2

      I think we all waste money in our own ways so don’t be too tough on yourself! Mindset evolves over time and I think having a set criteria or set of questions that you ask yourself with each potential purchase is helpful. But it’s not like doing a 180 degree change, it’s a gradual shift and I’m sure you’re already on your way!

    I agree with every single item you pointed out in the video, time is the most precious thing in life. We get landscaping service in the summer time, it's worth every penny to get professional services and free up time. Travelling is also something we spend money on without thinking but everything else in life (material things that other people see) is not wasting money. buying a house the most important criteria is location location, you can change the decor but can't change neighbourhood

    • @MeItsMeLol
      @MeItsMeLol 8 дней назад +2

      Exactly, there’s a reason the phrase is location, location, location! You can always add on a bathroom, bedroom, whatever, but you can’t drag your home to a safer neighborhood or to a location with a view.

    • @hellocatwalkcity

    I agree with nearly all of what you said. I don’t always follow the rules and do succumb to impulse purchases, but as I get older I have less tolerance for junk. I don’t live somewhere that I could give up my car, but I recognize that they’re expensive to own. I don’t spend high end designer prices on anything, my handbag price limit is around $500 and the same for shoes. I do indulge in my art hobbies, they keep me sane. And being a fellow fine jewelry junkie I indulge there, but I mainly shop at reputable auction houses, I haven’t walked into Tiffany, etc and made a purchase for over 20 years. I think that the only thing on your don’t buy list that I do buy is cans of seltzer water - I have liked seltzer and club soda since I was a child, and since it’s not pure junk like a cola I do succumb. However along your suggestions for wellness, I buy anything that gets me to consume more fluids, so seltzer it is. I don’t buy vitamins unless I have a certain deficiency, they’re fine for your children, but you and your husband don’t need them IMO.
    I like that you consider your family’s comfort before bringing something to your home, gosh I wish my parents had done that! We had a whole room of formal furniture (living room) that we only used when we had company, otherwise it was off limits. You didn’t mention pets, I feel they’re essential but they are certainly an expense. I think loving and caring for a pet is a good lesson for children. I always make my annual donations, and then during the year I will help certain causes that catch my attention, like a natural disaster. And it makes me feel good to help, like you said. I think that if someone is blessed to be living a comfortable middle class lifestyle, it is their duty to help others with either time or money, or both. Donating your time is super rewarding, makes me feel like a million bucks!
    And I also really value travel, especially for me I like to travel to take an art workshop. Last year I attended a week long workshop at a super posh dude ranch in Tucson, it was fun, I learned some things, I met new people, it was so worth it. But I also love to travel to big cities so I can see the museums and historical sites, sit around and people watch, and sample the local cuisine. I don’t buy souvenirs as such, but I often will buy a pretty blouse, a piece of jewelry, etc., something I can use often and remind me of the trip.
    Thanks for your wise and practical suggestions, I admire anyone who can keep a tight budget. No one needs to agree with another person’s priorities, but we do need to each seriously consider what we have, what we need, and what we merely want. 😀😀😀

    • @hellocatwalkcity
      @hellocatwalkcity  7 дней назад +2

      Thank you for sharing! I enjoyed reading about your choices and preferences. You mentioned having a pet. We really want a dog but we travel quite a lot and so it would be hard to manage taking care of a dog when we’re gone so much. So we foster dogs and we dogsit as well! As for donating, I think we have very similar approaches! I automate my giving to certain charities every month, so it goes out of my bank account without me having to think about it - and then when there are sudden needs that come up, we will donate as needed during those times. I agree that it’s our privilege and duty.

    We are so alike, we have the same splurges and avoids. One thing I also avoid is synthetic fabrics on clothes. I am also willing to pay higher prices for organic food particularly eggs, fruits and vegetables.

One tip: I specified which categories I would not buy (for me, it was clothes and shoes bc that’s where I felt I had excess and need to really declutter and organize). Oh Holiday decor, yes, I don’t spend money on that! Actually I don’t spend much money on home decor in general. I pick quality items and really keep it for years and years, I’m a minimalist when it comes to my house, no hoarding. Apps is an other huge thing, I do not subscribe to any youtube Accounts neither. We love traveling a lot but personally I don’t pay first class for my family. We pick preferred seats and it’s way enough. Each time I get to our destination, I’m thinking I’m where I want to be and I saved so much money.😂 I do not shop at Zara or these types of stores, I buy only high quality and shop only for 1-2 pieces per season. No takeouts, we are cooking at home or go to a restaurant but ordering foods to eat at home, no. I don’t get my nails done anymore, I wasted way too much money in it in the past. I do my nails at home since I love a natural look anyway. And no paying interests on anything, we also avoid fees. Each time I want to learn a new subject, I just look online and it’s all there. I don’t pay for online classes.

    I worked in fast food during college, and it completely turned me off to soda. Reloading the syrup bags to hook up to the soda machine was pretty gross (and the machines never get fully cleaned). Now if I take a tiny sip of my husbands drink, it tastes bad to me after 10 years of being off it. Same thing with a lot of super processed candies. They just taste wrong.

I also agree with the souvenir clutter but sometimes for example, last time i was in the Hamptons I got myself a beautiful book with gorgeous pictures of the Hamptons, perfect coffee table book and I love to read and see the beautiful pictures. Regarding the credit card, me and my husband are the same we use it because it gives us cash back and points but we always pay at the end of the month , never carry balance. So funny how similar we are.😊 as for not having tons of linens, I also wash and put it right away. Quick question, what are your thoughts about Hermes and Cartier jewlery? Lovely video Hannah. $900 a month in my neighborhood, yup. So over $10k a year. 😂

    I’m so curious as to why you do not reveal your face. This was a great video and I agree on all the points. Btw love the bags from dressupyourpurse.

      I've been asked this a lot and it's simply a personal choice I've made because I cherish my privacy. Thanks!

    How about the quality of Hermes costume/fashion jewelry?

      The nice thing about Hermes fashion jewelry is that it’s real gold plated. I have several of their bracelets, one being at least 7 years old and it still looks great. No peeling, no tarnish, no breakage.

    The children's place is my best friend for my kids, my parents and siblings buy them Ralph Lauren, I tell therm don"t buy that expensive stuff and I'm always told not to tell them how to spend their money. 😅

      I do buy my kids clothes from RL when they are on sale.

      So funny! One of my family members works for RL so we get everything 40% off but if it weren’t for that, it’s definitely back to Old Navy and Uniqlo. 😂 Love that your family members are generous with your kids.

    Storage, kitchen gadgets, linen, and seasonal tableware are waste of money. But the most expensive item is a car. A car is a necessity when you live outside of a cosmopolitan cities.
