I realized after watching the episode my Vegas is not the same Vegas because of the whole microprocessors not being a thing. So the location could be very askew and not look like the Vegas I know.

Yeah, lol... and likely a good chunk of it collapsed due to damage/disrepair from/after the war. But I think even for players of New Vegas, the layout might be SLIGHTLY different than it was in-game (maybe some shit went down between that game and the show, guess we'll find out in Season 2!). And yeah, I live in southern California, and the mountains seemed off to me too cause I'm used to driving down into the valley on the I5, lol.
Also, you're playing Fallout Shelter? LOL! What's your vault's experiment? (My vault is 17, cause it's a "lucky number" for me, and it's also close to Vault 13 and 15, which are the very first two vaults you learn about in the Fallout series) :D

New Vegas was the setting for the game before Fallout 4 (and I'm guessing the setting for at least some of season 2). Not spoiling anything but I think as a person familiar with Las Vegas you'll spend quite a bit recognizing things in New Vegas. They may have got the mountains wrong but I'm fairly certain it's one and the same.

In the Fallout New Vegas game they took care to get the cartography as right as they could in a game but it is scaled down of course for the game so you don't have to spend hours walking playing the game, but real places like Goodsprings and Primm are there. This scaling down does move the mountains much closer to the city. I can only assume in the show they copied the game as closely as they could as Jonathon Nolan is a big fallout game fan. We will see better in season 2 likely.

I played some of Fallout 3 and put in hundreds of hours into Fallout 4 which was a great game.i like that the LA was a story set in the universe and not specifically based on Fallout game. The story was so well done and loved you never had to play the game to enjoy the story. I didn’t see the twist coming. It was sad with Lucy’s mom because Lucy did have a memory as a child of feeling the sun but thought she was in the vaults.

  • @robertshields4160
    @robertshields4160 2 месяца назад +165

When Maximus and Lucy are in vault 4, having some food at a table in the common area, Lucy mentions that when she was a little kid, she actually thought the sun was in the sky and not just a projection on the vault wall. It sounds like a little throw away line but she actually was outside, in Shady Sands with her mother and that warmth was the actual sun in the sky. She was just too young to remember any of it clearly.
Also I love the little foreshadowing with Bud Askin driving up in his little car. He trades in a little car with a glass dome, for a brain on a roomba.

    • @KenFromchicago

They put in seemingly throwaway lines throughout the season.
"Look at you, clean hair, nice teeth, all ten fingers."
The Chicken Lover offering potions to cure feet--to The Target when Lucy is leading the Wilzig with a prosthetic foot away from The Ghoul to Muldaver.
Many reactors who had not seen the trailer or the credits recognized the Ghoul only because Cooper told his daughter that if the really Big Bombs fell then they were "Cowpokes, we take it as it comes."

    • @testfire3000

Not to be picky, but Lucy actually says the line to Maximus about the sun in the previous episode while they are walking on the railroad tracks, not long before they meet the Fiends. Not that it matters in the slightest, it is still a great line that hooks up nicely with the big reveal at the end. ☀

Vault-Tec as an entity makes little to no sense if you think about it for more than a moment. This is a mega-corporation with a complete stranglehold on the modern world. They have governments in their pocket, they have the resources to buy out entire tech research sectors like cold fusion, and they have access to nuclear warheads. So a corporation with this much power, is supposedly going to surrender all that power they have, just so they are the only people who *potentially* still have power hundreds of years in the future? If they by some miracle somehow survive the nuclear armagedon they are trying to unleash? Also Vault-Tec outsourced their own vaults to other corporations, so now in this potential world future, they will have more direct competition than they have already.

It wasn't in you cut of this video, but if you watch Barb when the meeting devolves into arguments, she gets a message on her Pipboy, looks up to a shadowy figure watching down on the meeting, then she takes over. Back an episode or so Miss Williams (aka Moldaver) told Cooper that she was on the verge of creating Cold Fusion when his wife's division bought up every company that she (Williams/Moldaver) ever worked for. Therefore, it is my belief that Barb was much further up the chain of command in Vault-Tec, possibly a senior executive or even a division head.

24:40 Unfair. Maximus gets through these positions thanks to his own merit.
When Dane screws him over (unintentionally) it’s his fervor that convinces the cleric to let him live/be Titus’ squire.
He gets the armor because he’s (apparently surprisingly) a good shot and put down a Yao Guai on 2 shots.
Rescues his armor because he’s an endurance Beast.
Gets rescued from his armor because he saved (he does that a lot)the girl with the big eyes in Filly.
Even when he was brought to his execution, he was saved because he had cultivated a good relationship with Dane and got the location of Moldaver from Lucy.
Any fortune Max received, was because he had sowed the seeds for success (even inadvertently) earlier
So yes, as the only BOS member who braved the front line and made it to the finish line, he deserved the promotion.

All the evil things the CEOs around the table were talking about doing with their Vaults. These are actual experiments the players will find in the vaults they explore throughout the Fallout game series. The show used actual Brotherhood of Steel power armor. Not CGI. Ella Purnell broke so many of her Pip Boy props that the showrunners would not allow her to get anywhere near the Power Armor costumes they had made. That is the landscape of New Vegas from the Fallout New Vegas game. The Stratosphere is the Lucky 38 casino which is the final resting place of Robert House. One of the CEOs in the Vault-Tec discussion room. This show occurs 9 years after the Second Battle of Hoover Dam in the Fallout New Vegas game. 2) 32 was invaded by Moldaver because Hank took Lucy and abandoned Rose on the surface. And Moldaver used Rose's Pip-Boy to get into 32, told the residents what 31 was really up to, and they went mad.
    3) If you think Vault-Tec was dark in the show, the games are far more dark by far. Every vault was an experiment of one sort or another.
    4) Bud's job was to keep tabs on what all the vaults were doing, collecting and collating the data so when people like Betty, Hank, and Stephanie woke up, they could be briefed with where their plan stood. That was the point of the "Bud's Buds" project Bud was babbling on about in the parking lot.
    5) While it's not explicitly stated, Cooper served in the Army prior to the bombs dropping. From game lore, there were resource wars chiefly between the US and China, as the oil reserves dried up and everyone got desperate. Another reason Vault-Tec tried to bury cold fusion.
    6) And if you decide to play the Fallout games I recommend playing on Very Easy so you can concentrate on the story rather than combat. Especially Fallout 4 because once you start to learn more about the games, the more little easter eggs you'll see in the game. From the weapons on the wall in Filly, to the magazine the guy's reading as Lucy enters Filly. SOOOOO many easter eggs you could make hours of content on that alone. (And people are.)

There are a lot of interesting Easter Eggs and such scattered throughout the series. My number one takeaway the first time I watched it, however, wasn't anything of that sort. My read on the final episode was "Maximus and Lucy both got exactly what they wanted, but they changed so much over the course of the show, that neither of them wants it anymore."
Maximus started out as a young aspirant who, more than anything else, wanted to be a Knight, a hero of the Brotherhood, and so he is.
Lucy wanted to find her father and figure out the truth about what was behind the attack on her home. She succeeded in acheiving both of those objectives.
Despite these successes, I think we can safely say that " and they lived happily ever after" isn't exactly the conclusion we have reached.

You actually end up seeing the aftermath of many of the Vault experiments mentioned by the board in the games. In fact pretty much all of them.
I reference to Vault 32, I think if we put some of the information together we're shown and told about in the Vault we can piece together what happened there to some degree.
-When we first meet Lucy she is applying to be married so she can participate in the triennial trade with Vault 32, so we know they trade once every three years.
-When Lucy first meets her supposed husband Hank mentions about Vault 32's blight situation.
-When we see Chet sitting down to eat we get a shot of his plate where it's a few slices of cooked Cram and then a corn medley and traditional salad, so we know the Vault Dwellers mostly eat from their crops.
-Then when Norm goes into Vault 32 he realizes the last bio signs from the Pip-Boy readings show two years ago.
So it seems that Vault 31 last traded with 32 three years ago, a year later they had a blight on the crop so the Overseer of 32 was able to convey that to Hank. At which point they are apparently prohibited from interacting with each other so 32 is left on their own. They have no crops, probably eat their way through their remaining canned food stores and begin to turn on each other.
Since we now know that the Overseer of 32 was someone from Pre-War times he probably either tried to go back to 31 or at the very least spilled the beans about the experiment. This causes the Vault 32 inhabitants to tie him to his Overseer chair and kill him. They then end up turning on each other or ending themselves.
Moldaver has Rose's Pip-Boy and needs a Vault-Tec manager. She probably realizes from Rose that they can't get into 31 and 33 has Hank, so 32 is the entry point. They find everyone dead and begin communication with Hank for the upcoming trade.
Could be different order intended on these events but that seemed to make the most sense to me.

Wild theory, Vault Girl: we know Cooper was the Vault Boy, the inspiration. What if Steph was the original Vault Girl? Blonde, looks like a model or actress, we know she is from Vault 31 so she lived before the bombs fell. They needed a female for the advertisements too. If so she might even know Cooper, the actor, before the war. Definately room for her character, and for Chet to free Norm.... Betty and Steph aren't that evil. They knew their DNA pool can't be mixed with raiders. And not enough resources.
But they never blamed Norm for the poisoning. Nor Betty acted against Norm other then separated him from Chet. They are all one family.... (Bud's Bud family lol)

    • @gork8468
      @gork8468 2 месяца назад

They didn't blame Norm for the poisoning 'yet'. Based on what he said at the meeting combined with being 'demoted' to feeding the prisoners, everyone probably assumes he did it. It's a good way to siphon away his credibility if he gets out of 31 and tries to reveal 'the truth'.

@@gork8468 i had the impression the younger female guard was looked at who got the cake earlier. She was saying she didn't do it. We must admit they had the power and means to blame him, lock him up even execute him for it. This shows their approach. Of course they are hiding things but could be way way worse

You mentioned how appropriate "We Three" was at the end of the episode. The three in the song are "my echo, my shadow, and I". I think they've even set this up, so the ghoul is the "I" in the song. Dogmeat (404) is his shadow. Lucy is his echo - " I'm you sweetheart, give it some time".

I very much enjoyed your Fallout reaction videos.
Regarding what happened in vault 32, I think Norm and Chet found the aftermath of a mutiny against the overseer and vault 31. I think the bodies hanging outside the overseer's office were mutineers hung by the overseer's supporters after Conflict Resolution 101 failed and the overseer moved on to Vault-Tec Resolution 201 (murder and intimidation). It backfired and generated more support for the mutiny. In the end, the overseer either triggered a failsafe (deadman switch) or it was triggered automatically when the mutineers tried to break through the door to 31. Fast-acting nerve gas flooded the whole vault killing everyone on both sides of the conflict. Other commenters have interesting suggestions about what might have triggered the mutiny.
Norm has time to explore what there is of vault 31 and maybe come up with a plan to escape. I am hoping he can engage RoomBud in conversation since Bud liked to talk. Maybe Norm (and we) can learn more about the tri-vault setup and the rules that govern it. Does RoomBud know what happened in vault 32? Why didn't Hank know what happened in vault 32?
I am particularly looking forward to the dynamic between Lucy and Coop. She's now actually travelling with someone who can tell her about the last 200 years. Will she realize that she grew up watching his movies? Will she call him Coop, Mr. Howard or Ghoul? She'd probably think calling him Ghoul is disrespectful. Will she learn that his new trigger finger used to be her finger? Will he open up to her and tell her about his family? So much potential there.

Loved your reaction to this season! I love the games, so for me it was an amazing show mixed Easter egg hunt, and the way I SQUEALED when the camera panned up and Hank was heading to New Vegas… I’m SO EXCITED. But also, as others have said, there IS a reason the topography looks weird around Vegas that Fallout: New Vegas explains

25:45 The mountain ranges may be in the wrong spot, probably because the gameplay maps for Fallout New Vegas, Fallout 3 (Washington DC), Fallout 4 (Boston) and Fallout 76 (West Virginia) tend to condense existing landmarks and topography. Believe me, I've been to both Boston and Washington DC and in both locations the distance between landmarks has been shortened considerably.

All of the vaults described in the meeting exist in one of the games. : )
It's heavy hinted that Rose and Moldavor were more than friends (keeping her around, holding her hand after, the flashbacks where Moldavor is with Rose and her kids in the background, etc). Hank might have burned Shady Sands more out of jealousy than anything.

All of the Vaults you hear about in that meeting, those are vaults you can find in the games. The one where they mutate people into super mutants is in either 3 or New Vegas. The one where they pump drugs into the air is in 4 I believe.

Good job catching on, better that a few other "reactors." Remember, the Fallout series of games are an 'alternate history' for the world; it assumes that transistors were never developed, that nuclear power development continued and was infiltrated into all aspects of society (without solving the problems of how to handle the waste), and that there was a general cavalier attitude towards radiation in general. It also assumes that the primary enemy of the U.S. was a mythical Sino Asian society (aka China) and the 'cold war' of this world was a) not so cold, and b) eventually led to bombs being dropped. This series has expanded the story with new elements, e.g. that Vault Tek had a hand in dropping the bombs or enticing them to be dropped. What is NOT new is that each vault was a 'social experiment' of one kind or another; that was established by the games.
Season 2 of this series has the potential to be really great. It will have to work hard to be as good at wrapping up threads as season 1 was. Episode 8 is just the best, speaking as a Fallout gamer fan.

They did such a great job of doling out just enough info and exposition without making any of the reveals obvious, so when the truth is revealed, it hits like a train.
Lucy really did remember feeling the actual sun. Her comment about "if my dad found out i destroyed a society to save him, it would break him." UGH only to find
out that is exactly what her dad did to punish her mom. I lived in Vegas for 15 years, including when Fallout: New Vegas came out. I spent so much time wandering
around trying to find little hints of real world locations, tracking down approximate spots I lived/worked etc lol. *Sends you big hugs cuz I knew these reveals would

I've been a fan of the Fallout franchise since Fallout 2 came out (I missed fallout 1 and had to go backwards to play that) and have played almost every game set in that universe that has come out (Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel I skipped because it was a console game and Fallout 76 I skipped because it's essentially an MMO).
I love this show. Although not a perfect translation from game to screen, it did a fantastic job with what it did carry over. I have minor qualms with some of what they left out and changed, but the fact that they chose basically four unique, interwoven stories with fantastic actors, great special effects and what seems to be a solid grasp of the Fallout universe really makes up for any shortcomings in my eyes.
I can't believe we're likely to wait upwards of two years for the second season. I can't bloody wait!
