Guys yall paying 52 dollars for a little Keychain tungsten bar and the sharp in spark.... tungsten bar sharpeners are 6 dollars on Amazon prime... I'm sure this will get deleted, I hope not because someone feeling like their prices are fair shouldn't block a comment like this... by the way Amazon won't tell you "I wouldn't give you a penny back" if you don't like it. If you buy the brand that invented this type of sharpener you will pay about 12 for a tungsten bar sharper and that's for the original brand that's been around the longest speedy sharp. Yall crazy as hell if your paying 52 dollars for a few bucks worth of tool.

@Dave-thorfinn let's just see a simple Powdered stainless like s30v. Just a typical spyderco in s30v that will be around 60hrc and let's see how it handles it and that would be a good stainless test to show performance... then something like maybe k390 or cru wear as a harder 64 to 66hrc tool steel (and yes it will no doubt cut a steel thats at even 70hrc as the T carbide its much harder then 70) the problem with this tool is its not cutting micro serrations jn the apex as the scratch pattern is running the wrong way.... all this is doing is leaving a fine wire edge and fine wire edges are indeed very sharp because the wire is so thin... the issue is and its why you see him only cut paper to show its sharp is because that fine wire edge will collapse and fail as soon as you cut anything tough with it i would be willing to bet after he sharpes a knife with it just a few cuts thru some tough card board or some tough twisted rope and it wont cleanly slice paper anymore and that will be because the wire edge collapsd and now the edge "Apex" is blunt.... he claims this is the best sharpener well show us lol.... all I ever see him doing is fake Damascus Pakistan made pot metal knives or dollar store stainless that's literally just recycled stainless steel and probably is only hardened to like 50 to maybe 53hrc.... those Walmart knives he does are 420/3cr13mov and for shits and giggles I had one hardness tested and it was 52.7.. 53hrc is literally like a decent steel is in irs annealed state... it's hardened but it's so soft that it's a joke

It works on all but a couple of knives. There is a learning curve, but the more experienced, I become with it the sharper my blades become. I have other sharpening tools and methods also. When you focus on the carbide edge angle and use very light pressure on the strokes, it brings the edge to a fine sharpness.

So an average knife 55hrc!! And tungsten 85hrc! So it’s not 5 times harder! But it’s definitely harder than the knife you’re sharpening! It goes from the old WW1 days of British troops sharpening there knives on German spine of knives (which were harder hrc) so yes this sharpener will work! But yes there’s a major learning technique just like stone sharpening!! I agree with Brad his sharpener works! But calling everyone who can’t use it a dumbass! (As you yanks call it) is bad business and especially lying about the hrc of tungsten! Diamond stones are readily available and harder than tungsten I even use diamond to sharpen tungsten saw blades!! So I do agree with you Brad!!! But I also disagree with you 👍

You do realise that every number that goes up, the hardness is much greater than the last number. Same as earthquakes. To get from a 4 to a 5 on the richter scale the quake must be several times more violent that the lower number. Correct me if I am wrong. Thank you for the comment.

@@levifletcher4462all you will ever see is him sharpening gas station type knives. He's going to keep showing the lower hrc simple steels like 3cr, 5cr etc... first of all he isn't going to harm the value of any higher end knife by using this on it and second of all any of the higher preformance vanadium carbide rich steels this method would cause terrible carbide tear out, the steel matrix would fracture badly around the carbides and you racking that carbide over those V carbides would cause them to break out like crazy... it's tungsten so it will most definitely cut any steel, even steels that are up around 70hrc as tungsten is much harder then the steel BUT tungsten is not harder then the vanadium carbides and that is where the problem lies.

S30V is soft. S90V is even softer according to Benchmade's chart. S30V is much softer than D2. Otherwise machinists would use S30V in milling.. It is hard enough that I can get a very good edge on it.

They did improve a lot, and I was particularly impressed with the work that it did on an axe. Never saw an axe so sharp. But EDCs and kitchen knives just did not get that biting edge that cuts paper so well in your hands. I assure you, I followed your moves closely and tried to do exactly as you did. I spent hours on it. Perhaps you did say that it takes a long time to develop the skill, but I do not remember hearing that...

This is probably the only fair video you have. Took 20 fkin minutes to fix a dull knife vs the 10 seconds you show in every other video. No wonder everyone's sending it back. You're advertising it wrong. Advertise it as though it takes 20 minutes to sharpen a mild steel blade and 120 to sharpen real steel and you'll be golden and giving a valid comparison. Also, the rods on lansky don't flex that much on the finishing passes. Same technique applies. Use a lot of force to shape the bevel, then almost no force to finalize the edge. You should be gliding it with almost 0 force to finish and should get a consistent sheen across the entire edge when you're done. Can't do that at all with this thing. It's literally just as you said, to fix up a horrible edge into a sorta shitty one so you can complete the task at hand. And yeah, it'll probably do that. But it's not making a good edge ever. You're never going to shave with one of these. The reason for 22 degrees is edge stability. You'll get micro chipping in any good knife if you go too steep. Some knives support it, some don't. You'll find out right away if you use your knife hard and the edge falls off in 2 uses. Cool tool, but it's really only worth about $15.

18:43 - This is categorically false. You may have a preference for carrying dull knives, but the sharpness required to take hair off your arms as you say has nothing to do with the slicing performance and geometry of the blade, that is a property that comes from a perfect 0 point apex. You can literally make a steel cube shave hair by apexing and deburring properly, ive tried.
This comes across as an excuse for the results being bad. Its not very sharp? Oh I didnt want it sharp anyway.

I only ordered one and if it doesn’t work I wouldn’t waste my time time sending it back but would assume it’s me that needs improvement, not the sharpener. I bet it’s gonna work great and if so I’ll buy a couple more for my truck as well as my toolbox at work. I completely agree with you about the stupidity of polishing a blade to 6000 or 20,000 grit or whatever these kids do. That makes for a great show knife (if you’re into investing your money and time into a knife just for bragging about its “mirror edge”) but one cut doing any kind of work that actual men do and all you have is a now smooth dull edge. Much of the time I don’t take my work knives past the brown medium stones on my Spiderco Sharp maker because a toothy edge cuts better if your cutting something besides paper.
