I love your channel, Daria, and am grateful to you for your advice (just watched your talk on memorization, great, thank you, it was very helpful!). I'd like to put in a word for the CLP-745 (which I just bought, after watching your reviews, as well as many others, and after trying various instruments, Yamaha, Kawai, Roland, etc. in a local supplier). Important to note that the price differences between the P-515, CLP-745 and CLP-775 are rather different in 2023 than they were when you made the video (and maybe more different in Europe). But IMO the 745 has a lovely action and, depending on your (i.e. one's) requirements, the amplification is more than sufficient. I'm very happy with my purchase and don't think I would have gained much by paying the extra for the 775 (except the doubt). Please keep posting!
Welcome back Daria, Here’s an update on my 745: it started driving me nuts with rattling keys especially right in the middle of the keyboard. I initially had a problem with one rattling note that the technician fixed. Approximately a month later other notes started to rattle, not just a normal thumping but a plastic kind of crackling. In the interim Omicron delayed things and I wanted to see just how involved this noise would be, how it would play itself out. Finally I made a decision that for my purposes this 745 would not stand up to my many hours of daily practice even when fixed. Keep in mind that the action “improvement” was just not right for me. The 635 with the older action and fully plastic keys seems to be ok for my weekly playing in public. No rattling on the 635 and it’s been a solid 2 years. I traded my 745 up to a N1X hybrid with a genuine grand piano action. I had previously tried the Yamaha Avant Grand hybrids and was really impressed. Anyway, it was 100% trade in for the 745 and of course more for the hybrid. But I am very happy at last with this purchase. I am a lifelong acoustic player and this action is truly acoustic, the voices are of wonderful quality too. By the way, I briefly tried the 775, which is better than the 745, heavier, etc. but for me I am much happier with a real acoustic grand action. Maybe you can try to get a used 645? I know where you can get one if you are interested. It has the same action as your 515. Let me know.
You have confirmed what I suspected. The CLP-745 is betwixt and between, and a bit expensive. I tried the 785, alongside a nearly new U1, seemingly on a great offer. They were the same price - about 5000 euros. For home piano use I would definitely choose the 785. But I'm doing fine with my P-255, which is supposedly the predecessor to the P-515. I fully agree about the P-515's action (very good) but for virtually everything else I prefer the (more portable) P-255. I don't play classical music anymore (I play jazz) and I'm getting better results on digital pianos in many instances. Logically, I seldom get to touch the high end acoustic pianos.
Interesting comparisons. I love my P515. It is a lovely instrument. I certainly wouldn't have bought it without trying it properly. It is a very personal choice.
I have my CLP 775 for almost 2 years now and I really really love it. The keys are still quite heavy but not that stiff as on the p515. The piano sounds are very beautiful, even the Bösendorfer. I agree with you that the Bösendorfer on the p515 was hollow and quite powerless in the upper notes in my opinion. But now there is power and "space" in the Bösendorfer sound. The only thing I wish Yamaha could do is to have the black keys made of wood too. It feels a little bit weird to only have the white keys made out of wood. But to be honest, I cannot feel any difference in the weight or in the touch in general. So having the keys made out of wood maybe is not such a very big deal?!
I guess it is not a very big deal, in the sense that I have tried a piano with plastic keys (some Yamaha digital grand piano), which felt very good, and not any worse than the CLP that I have tired. so the mechanism is more important then the material in that sense, but if the same mechanism had wooden keys, I think it would feel better. But I can be a placebo affect😄
@@Dariafortepiano When a manufacturer says "wooden keys", does that mean that the *only* difference is the material? Could it be that when a manufacturer incorporates wooden keys, it will (perhaps necessarily) also incorporate other materials and technologies in the key mechanism? In which case "wooden keys" is code for "improved key action". I find it difficult to believe that simply substituting wood for plastic is going to make the very (to me) noticeable difference between, say, the Clavinova CLP 735 and the CLP-745.
i recently went to a s tore where they had the 725 ,the arius 165 and the 745.The 745has the lighter action, which i liked because i like light action>But for people who like heavier keys both cheaper pianos have heavier keys than the 745.
As I said, I have been considering the upgrade from P-515 (I like NWX action too) to CLP745 but what you are saying in this video only reinforced my thoughts that I would be basically paying too much for perhaps a bit better action and the cabinet that I really do not need. I prefer portable pianos because I can sit lower - most pianos are simply too high for me as far as key level is concerned. Thank you for your review. It helped me to make up my mind about this “upgrade”.
I am very glad I was able to help you with the decision. IMHO it is not worth the money to upgrade p515 to clp 745. I liked my p515 a bit better, honestly. I miss it. :( This one has an imrpoved sound bank, but that's about it. The action I don't like as much. So save your money:)
Thank you. I had just sold my P255, and was having some remorse, (it did have a lighter action). But I think I too prefer the heavier, (more substantial?), action with my P515. And I play about 1000th of the amount you do, so someone else can enjoy the mostly unplayed keyboard.
Hi Daria, You’ve done a very complete review and demonstration. I do have a few comments from my perspective. As you know I have the 745 and also one of the pianos I perform on is the 635, with the same action as the 515 but with plastic keys. I also tried a 645 and a 785. At that time the 775 wasn’t available. The 785 felt like I was operating a large stereo system and the keys would just go down practically all by themselves with the slightest touch, not good for me. The 645 was not as balanced and the 635 feels almost the same. I’ve adapted well to the 635. For daily practice the 745 is fine for me. I don’t believe I will have access to a 9 foot concert grand to perform on and if that dream ever comes true I will have my baby grand repaired by then!!!! I will also need to get used to a large grand at that point too. And remember, the 745 is quite a bit lighter in weight than the 775 so if you need to move it around the 745 is easier. I was grateful to have the 745 last night when I suddenly had to cram in a lot of extra time practicing to get those pieces improved for today. I use Hard1 touch. I was not concerned about any overuse injuries that might happen with a heavier action. Nevertheless, always wanting more I wonder how the 775 is. More speakers for 775 and better pedals. Maybe too loud for your apartment? If you haven’t truly played the 775 you can’t really judge. It seems better on paper but so does the 785 and that was so artificial. Whether the 745 is worth it, who knows? Yes, it is a decent piano with binaural samples for Bosendorrfer and CFX and better overall samples and hefty speakers. It is a personal choice. I think as long as you have access to an acoustic from time to time just get a digital that you enjoy and that suits your needs.
I guess the price difference is less pronounced now that I've been making the same choice - P-515 at around 18000 SEK (with stand and pedals) and CLP-745 at around 25000 SEK. I preferred the sound(!) of the 745 in headphones and in the speakers - and the 745 is in stock and the P-515 is not. So my decision.. was 745 :) Thanks for your help.
Hi Daria. You have really nice channel. I am thinking of buying yamaha P525. Price here is just some 10% higher then for P515. Would yo recommend P525? I am trying to play some classical again and may be some Chopin Etudes too. Or is heavier action of NWX better for that kind of practicing? Probably now they knew one would be better I guess. Anyway thanks and have great day.
Hi, thanks for the question. To be honest I can't advice you on this matter, because I have not tried the p525. I just heard form some people that the action is lighter than p515, so it depends on your preference. If you like heavier action than go with p515, if not, get 525:) that's as much as I can say about it. Sorry
Yes I understand. Thank you for your answer anyway. Action on p525 is same as Yamaha CLP 745 you rewied. I thought you could compared it to it. But I guess it is hard to say without trying one. Unfortunately I can't try one. Stores are far from me to try p525. Anyway thanks again.. Have a great day.
I have a P515 and watched your earlier videos on the P515 with great interest. I am very happy with it and don't plan to part with it but am also curious about the CLP785. Thanks for sharing your experience with the 745. Very interesting and informative. BTW I was a little surprised to hear you say you are 5 ft 4. I've always pictured you as being much taller.
My pleasure to share! Glad you have p515, much better priced 😄 I would love to try clp 775 and 785 both. ...oh well....one day:) Haha, yes, I'm not that tall, I wish! 😅 Thanks for your feedback!🙏
I have a 785 (after a 6 month wait) and got it for all the reasons listed at 5:43 . Wanted something that looks like a piano, sounds amazing, and can substitute for an upright long term, but only weighs 200 lbs so moving or living upstairs isn’t a problem. If you have an iPad, you should hook it up to the usb or Bluetooth and try the app. It’s much easier to navigate the features than the built in menu!
Oh, not that I’m an expert, but it plays very similarly to the Yamaha upright I had access to in college (probably a U1), but it’s like lifting weights compared with my teacher’s Steinway grand!
@@enginerdy Thanks for sharing your experience and perspective. The CLP785 would be a worthy upgrade to the P515. Though, I'm still considering an acoustic U3 as my 'forever piano' and keeping the P515 to practise on with headphones. I'll have to try both the U3 and 785 before making a final decision.
@@SuperWils2010 man up and get a grand piano like me. I got a Kawai GL20 grand piano. I also have a Kawai ES920 and just got a Yamaha P515 to compare. I liked both enough that I’m keeping both digitals.
Hi Daria. I like your reviews because I'm a pianist, labelled as "classical trained", but I'm not strictly just classical pianist. However, sometimes I need the perspective from somebody who pushes the possibilities to the edge, playing some Chopin studies, and other demanding pieces. I didn't play a decent piano for long time and I needed something to start to practice and recover my fit. I saw your videos about the P515 and helped me to choose the P515, after comparing with the Roland FP 90, or Kawai ES920 or Korg Grand Stage. I got one, I loved it. It is helping me to recover my technique, however I found other pianos more pleasant to play, such as CASIO Celviano GP310, KAWAI CA 99, KAWAI NOVUS 10. I will keep the P515 for studying and practicing, but I need a more enjoyable piano. Unfortunately I don't have the enough space for a Grand one, so I will have to choose something smaller. So here is my question, did you have any experience playing Hybrids, such as KAWAI NOVUS NV 10, CASIO CELVIANO GP 510, (KAWAI CA99), YAMAHA N1X? I would really appreciate your opinion about this matter.
Hi Gabriel! Glad you are enjoying your p515:) I understand wanting a better option, closer to acoustic. I unfortunately don't have much experience with Hybrids, I tried N1X, didn't like it much, to be honest. Was weird feeling, sort of incongruous between touch and sound. I have tried Kawai C choice! Sorry, I can't help much here, since I haven't tried any others 🤔 Good luck with choosing! 🤞👍hoice! Sorry, I can't help much here, since I haven't tried any others 🤔 Good luck with choosing! 🤞👍
**** ALL YOUR REVIEW CONTENT ARE ABOVE & BEYOND....LOVE LOVE YOUR HONEST & PROFESIONAL OPINION !!!! Any particular reason you prefer YAMAHA over OTHER BRANDS like KAWAI or ROLAND ???
Hello Daria, thank you very much for your review. Keep up the good work :)) How do you think about the escapement on Yamaha P515? Is it too negligible? It is close to escapement on acoustic grand piano? Hope to receive answer from you.
Hi Minh, Thank you for your comment and question! I find the double escapement on p515 pretty good, not exactly the same as acoustic, but work pretty well for repeated notes. Good acoustic will have better escapement though.
@@Dariafortepiano Thanks a lot Daria. What do you think about Kawai Grand Feel, or Grand Feel II, III action? Are those Kawai wooden actions better than Yamaha NWX and GrandTouch-S action? Hope to receive answer from you.
hi 🙂 I agree with you.. the Grand touch s keyboard is very performing but it seems to play a middle school keyboard. it is absolutely unrealistic.. I would like to buy the clp 645 which is the P515 with the cabinet.. it is the keyboard that I liked the most, and also the sound seemed the most balanced to me.. I wanted to know why you decided to sell the P515 and if you had any problem.. thanks
Hi Davide, thank you for your comment! I also liked the clp 645, so I support your choice. I bought clp 745 blindly, without trying it, I thought since it's an upgrade of 645, it must be better. But I was wrong. I coudnt return it, long story. I sold the p515 because I had to relocate across the country I without the original box was afraid to damage it, as I was traveling by air. And at that time another p515 wasn't available for a few months, and I needed a piano. So I decide to upgrade, and honesty I liked my p515, and I miss it. 😔
@@Dariafortepiano thank you for the confirmation! as for you instead (to console you 🙂), you still have a recent model that people really like, so you always have the possibility to resell it at a good price if you want 🙂 if I buy the 645 I would have an old instrument that I don't like much, hardly salable 😉
Thanks for all the information about the ClP 745 and the P515. I only have one small doubt. How about the sound of the two main pianos of these two models? Will you match them similar or do you prefer one over another? And how about the power of the speakers? Does the clp 745 sound much louder compared to the p 515? Thank you very much, greetings from Argentina 😊
I had the P-515 and CLP-745WA in my house (both wife and I play), but we sold the CLP745 to buy an acoustic. In my opinion the P-515 is better value for money (1000€ less in EU, I bought CLP745 2500€), more weight to the keys, also wooden keys. I love the P-515 I guess :-). With the stand it's great.
Hi, I also own the P515 and am very happy with it. Though, I'm considering buying either an acoustic upright (maybe Yamaha U1 or U3) or the CLP785. What's it like owning both the P515 and an acoustic?
@@SuperWils2010 I was hesitating between the Yamaha U1/YUS1 or the Schimmel C121 and after testing both, I found the Schimmel way higher quality and better feeling. It's 2.000€ more expensive though. So I ordered it in December and it should be there for late April :-). I play on acoustic grands at the music school, and I'll eventually need an acoustic to train. The P-515 is great to play during the evening with the headset (a good headset, I have a Sennheiser HD300 PRO). You can't go wrong with the U1 anyway, it's a good popular piano. I like that I buy a piano made 300km from my home :-).
@SuperWils2010 I prefer U3 over U1, from what I remember playing on. It's a bit more refined and interesting sound. U1 is a bit plain in tone, in my opinion. but it is probably more expensive...
@@G91YS Thank you for sharing your experience. I researched the Schimmel C121. It is almost double the price of a U3 here in Australia from my research. I get a lot of enjoyment from playing the P515 with and without headphones. Is playing the Schimmel C121 an entirely different experience and worth the price difference?
Hi, thanks! I am not sure what you mean by soft closing, but if you are referring to the sound it makes when the keyboard is closed, it is very gentle. It has some soft plastic lining on the edge of the piano lid (if that is what you mean by "door"?))
Comprei clp 735 mas as teclas são muito leves .e estou com a mesma cara de desanimado e triste que tu ,o 745 deve ter o mesmo problema ,você testou o 735 alguma vez ?beijo de Portugal e ganhou mais um escrito...
Very trivial reasons: had to move to a different state by airplane, didn't have a box for the P515 , was afraid to break it during the transportation. I already had unfortunate experience previously. Wanted to get a new p515 first. but was not available for a few months. So I decided to upgrade to 745, and was excited to get updated sound samples and the period instruments too:)
@@Dariafortepiano why not a real grand piano. I currently have a hand built Charles R Walter 1500 Studio, a Kawai ES920 I just got a month ago for fun, and a few other pianos in my apartment. Looking to upgrade to just one Kawai Baby Grand and keeping the Kawai ES920. What are your thoughts on the Kawai GL20? Or should I get a Kawai K500 upright instead? Only looking to purchase new. Was quoted 12,000 for a brand new GL20 and 9,500 for a brand new Kawai K500. Great channel
Absolutely loved your honesty! I'm glad I took your advice over a year ago to go with a P515. It's served me very well for this past year. I'm curious, are there any acoustic pianos you'd suggest as a good upgrade from the P515? That's probably difficult to answer since I recognize cost factors so heavily into that but I'd love your opinion on maybe a brand or model line to investigate that's a great step up into an acoustic without going into the grand piano level. Or maybe that's a better question: is there a solid upright that you'd suggest or would you say save until someone could afford the entry grand pianos?
Glad you enjoy my review!:) thanks for your feedbackand question! Not easy to answer... .I will give you my opinion, a general one, of course it can all be different dependong on each particular model of piano you are considering, do not take it at full value please:) I like Petrof brand uprights , not expensive and they have a rounder, noble type of sound. ( you can get a used one for $2000-4000) Also heard that Boston uprights are supposed to be very decent ( it's a smaller sister company of Steinway, they are cheaper, but same manufacturer I think). Yamaha U3 is a decent upright, but it is a bit expensive. Depends on your budget. U1 has a very bland uninteresting sound in my opinion. Hope this helps!
Very good reviews! congrats for your channel! I'm considering buying a digital piano (I'm a beginner student) and I'd like to buy a digital as "real piano" as I can afford. I'd like to ask you if you have tried the Kawai pianos. They seem to be "more real" (some models have the key length of a real piano, etc). Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
Hi ! Your clp 745 review is amazing. I had a question, I recently bought 745R but it was shipped upside down . Do you think it is a problem? There is no physical damage to the piano though
Hey, apologies for delay with my reply. I am not sure if it whould be a problem, but the packaging is very solid, so unless you experience some strange defects with it, then I think it should be fine. But Im not a specialist in this area...sorry!
Hmmm....maybe you could share the link to where you see these prices? Cause I can only find the 3,600 for 745 and 5,000 for 775. Maybe I'm looking at the wrong place🤨 Would love to know the better deals! Thanks!

Haha, yes, I'm not that tall, I wish! 😅
Thanks for your feedback!🙏
Hi Gabriel! Glad you are enjoying your p515:)
I understand wanting a better option, closer to acoustic. I unfortunately don't have much experience with Hybrids, I tried N1X, didn't like it much, to be honest. Was weird feeling, sort of incongruous between touch and sound. I have tried Kawai C choice! Sorry, I can't help much here, since I haven't tried any others 🤔
Good luck with choosing! 🤞👍hoice! Sorry, I can't help much here, since I haven't tried any others 🤔
Good luck with choosing! 🤞👍
@@Dariafortepiano Thanks for your answer. By the way I also appreciate your mini-lectures.
Keep up the good work :))
How do you think about the escapement on Yamaha P515?
@@Davideberti haha, true! I was already considering selling it. Best of luck to you!
@@Dariafortepiano do you regret your 745 purchase now? Is there a better piano in this price range you would rather have?
Totally agree about value for money, hard to beat p515 in my opinion. I wish I could own an acoustic....good for you and your wife! 👍🏻😀
Nice video series!!
Does this piano has any soft closing of the keyboard door? Thank you
Thank you!!
My pleasure!👍👩🏫🎹
Why did you buy the 745 rather than keep the p515?
@@Dariafortepiano indeed, i wanted to get another p515 for my parents alas it was on backorder :( did you already sell your old p515? :)
@@Dariafortepiano Did you think of buying a used upright piano? I am thinking very hard about what to choose
What do you think of the CLP735? :)
Wow you should go to the philippines! The p515 is $1640, the clp775 is $3110, and the clp745 is only $2220!
wow! really? OMG, I should, haha. but will have a problem transporting it back to the US😅
beg your pardon .3500 dollar your can but clp775. 745 worth about 2500 .
Hmmm....maybe you could share the link to where you see these prices? Cause I can only find the 3,600 for 745 and 5,000 for 775. Maybe I'm looking at the wrong place🤨 Would love to know the better deals! Thanks!
