I don’t really care about bringing trump to justice for documents but the best case scenario is it doesn’t adjudicate in his favor and he goes as low and mockingly ableist as possible about the “special” master. Campaign trump acting horrific things out was peak comedy.

The chilean constitution analysis is rather disappointing, though is hard to expect anything more... Boric was modelled after american (US) Democratic Socialism and he has been the complete bankruptcy of the chilean left, the New Constitution was his gamble to institutionalize the 2019 revolt and it failed miserably, now the right has veto power over his government and the communist party - the only leftwing position in the government - is being sidelined. Of course, for the US left, Boric was just another poster boy for the phantom of a democratic left compatible with american liberal democracy, so this experiment doesnt really affect them much. Overall, Boric is responsible for driving the most power the left has had in 50 years to the ground, firmly restablishing neoliberal rule in Chile.

What should have been the ideal? As in, best case scenario among viable alternatives in their political landscape, what did leftists have a chance at and what is the best course of action now?
@@philesq9595 Ideal would've been the realization of the 2019 revolt's core demands: the resignation of Piñera and the dismantling of the neoliberal state infrastructure, which entailed a constitutional assembly. When you write 'viable alternatives' though, it seems you are presupposing a series of clear paths towards a preconcieved goal, which is far from a reality in Chile, the best the left could've hoped for was a scenario where, through popular movilization, the political landscape was reorganized away from the narrow confines of neoliberal democracy, whatever that may lead because frankly the left still doesnt have a clear and common goal outside of a vague desire for surpassing the confines of neoliberalism, which is not much a project really.
In reality, the best we could've hoped for was for popular movilization to develop, through its unfolding, new forms and relations of political engagement, communication and action, new praxis if you will, something outside the neoliberal political framework of relations. It is this development that Boric aborted signing the Peace Accords with the political class' stablishment that resulted in the failed constitutional process we just lost. Boric was afraid that the revolt would result in new forms of praxis that moved too far from what he was comfortable with.

A special master is normal but not something the public would ever see or care about. Entirely inappropriate here. Judge caved to pressure. The infection is too deep, the republican base effectively kept a judge in line.

The July 2021 unrest in South Africa was of course triggered (some would say instigated directly by his supporters) by the imprisonment of fmr President Jacob Zuma.

He was almost directly set free by a prison riot, although since he had "voluntarily" surrendered the week prior at the eleventh hour of the deadline the police set, instead of forcing a confrontation between the SAPS and the thousands of supporters gathered at Nkandla, he probably wouldn't have left even if the perimeter was breached.
